Harley riders, Assholes, & MC Clubs

Two questions: How many of you guys belong to an MC club? And do you ever NOT return the "Motorcyclist Wave" after someone has waved at you?

Ok... Here's the story: I was riding a while back and I saw a guy approaching on an HD.... I stuck my hand out and did the "wave" and as he rode by he gave me this disgusted look. Hmmmm.... I at the time I couldn't tell weather it was my race... or the make of my bike.... Which ever the case... it's stupid. I know or have met quite a few HD riders and some have been really cool dudes, but most have been arrogant jackasses. This is just my opinion of the actual people that I've met. I personally will probably never own an HD for many reasons, but I don't like to discriminate against people for dumb shit like what brand of bike they ride. Hmmmmm.... But these days I'm starting to find myself grunting when someone ask the question, "What kind of bike is that?" then I respond, "Honda Shadow"... The they arrogantly say... "I ride a Harley ______"

As far as MC clubs go.. I don't belong to one, nor do I have the desire. I like riding alone, with my hot ass chica on the back, or with a buddy or 2... but thats about it. It boggles me how grown ass people would STILL do shit like hazing. On this forum, we haze NOOBS a bit, but it's all in good fun, it's quick, painless, then it's over. Hell... I even did it when I was in the Marine Corps.... but again... I was a "kid." On another note... I've been out riding and run accross clubs or groups that look at me like "WTF" just because I'm not a part of them. I'm sure that there's some really cool groups and clubs out there... but I just haven't come accross any.

I ride what I ride when I want to ride with who I want to ride with... And that's just it. Nuff said.

Also, I recently read this post on another forum and I thought it was pretty cool.... Especially since it was about an HD rider being cool to in import rider.

I usually wave when waved too, sometimes I wave first and don't get a response, no big deal, I am sure they like me at times and don't feel like waving back. I could care less what they are riding.

As for the club, I see them out every once in a while. Mostly just the older riders on their Goldwings/Tourings. I do see a Lost Dutchman and their riders every few months because one of them lives in my neighborhood. I haven't noticed any dirty looks from them or any other MC's.

I have learned that only about 1% of HD riders give you crap if it isn't a HD.

I ride an H.D. Fatboy. When it comes to my riding buddies I couldn't care a sht less what someone is riding as long as they don't ride it like an asshole.

I don't belong to any groups, I don't have the time or desire to spend a crap ton of time working on a clubhouse for a 'family'. I have a house and a family. There are tons of poker runs, rallies, fundraisers, etc. that are open to the public when I feel like riding with larger groups.

When it comes to the waving, last thursday I rode down to Kalamazoo, its about an hour and a half from my house for my son's baseball game. Anyway, the whole way down and back I waved to every bike I saw. Almost nobody waved back, included everything from metric to American. I was starting to get a complex, maybe I'm a lepur or something. I almost came to the point of waving to mopeds..... but hey, ya gotta draw the line somewhere. So its not just you or your bike.

The way I see it some ppl are just dicks and the bike between their legs has nothing to do with it. They'd be dicks on mopeds too. I wave to all bikes and I usually wave first, if they choose not to wave back, no biggy. I'm a courteous biker, if the oncoming rider is a dick, so be it. Just me and my .03 cents worth.(inflation)

I like doing the hand thing to people on mopeds cause they give me a double look and surprised that I included them.

MC club business is their business and I do not speak for them. What I will pass on is how I understand the situation where I sit and hope it may be of help to you.

There are a lot of MCs in my area. Wingmen MC, Veterans MC, Infidels MC, (all independent military based clubs) ride Fayetteville and I have buddies in all of them. The Hells Angels (81) are the major 1% club and there are the Red Devils (81 support club) to the north. There is also the Ghost Riders to the south but have not had the chance to talk to any of them. (There are other bike clubs around but don’t see much of them)

I do what I do and they do what they do. I carry myself in a professional manner and show respect to the clubs and have not had any issues. When our paths cross if the situation feels unfriendly I move out. This has only happened once when I happened upon a sit down between two of the MCs. Even then I was told “This is a invite only area” I nodded with a “Roger that” and went to the other side of the bar to finish my beer. For the most part they have all been friendly. I was invited to one of the military MCs club houses last Friday to have a few beers and meet the guys. I also chatted with some of the Red Devils and Angles at the Nickleback concert about Harleys last night. All seemed to be cool guys in the given environment.

Most MCs around here require a “American Made” bike to be a member, but even then some members have another type of bike or 2 or 3. I have had 81 members at a local bar give kind words to me about Ghost Shadow, and had non-MC members that are Harley riders talk shit about my 85% custom "Jap bike" from the back of their stock American bike even if 1/2 of their parts are built overseas.

Here is the deal: People come in all makes, size, color, and background… some people are assholes and some are not. Being a member of a MC don’t make someone a asshole, and it don’t make them a bad ass biker. It makes them a member of a club.

I try to give a wave to everyone (not the mopeds granted) no mater what bike I am on (Harley or Honda) but I don’t see every rider in time, and have missed a few that may have thought me a asshole. Hay... it is what it is.
