My XS650 Bobber.

I've been drooling over an old skool bike for a while. It's a 1978 Yamaha XS650. I ran across this little beauty for $100 from a guy on freeridersclub.org that I frequent. It doesn't have a title, and doesn't run at the moment. The owner before the guy I bought it from pulled out the wiring harness so all of the electrical pieces are sitting in a box. I'm going to weld in a hardtail section. I've already bought a Sportster tank from someone I work with. Hopefully this this will be a tight little bobber I get it finished (which won't be anytime soon I'm sure.) I picked up a '82 titled frame for it a couple of weeks ago..

There were some ghetto home made hardtail struts in the box. This is just temporary until I get hardtail section welded onto the new frame. I also installed a set of dirtbike bars I had laying around the garage. I'm going to get a new pair that won't hang down quite as low for the final assembly.

Here it is with the sportster tank.

btw, the schwinn seat is temporary. ;) I've ordered a bunch more parts for it already.

to be continued..

Here are a few more pics of the new titled frame.

I'm grinding off the stock tank mounts for the tank to fit the frame..

XS650 Guard dog..

Tank mounted.. May grind alittle more out so that it sits further down. It's on there tight right now..

I got my hardtail tacked into place. Obviously the hardest part was making sure everything was square. We still need to finish welding everything up once I get the rest of the parts that I need to weld.

The TC Bros Choppers hardtail section is nice. The fit was very good. It came with instruction that were ok. The installation wasn't over difficult. I still have to go back and clean up the stock part of the frame and clean up the tack welds that we use to hold the frame in place since there was no motor in it.

I have a 5 inch fender and struts on the way. I'm still trying to decide what I'm going to do about a seat also.

Thoughts, comments, and suggestions are welcome. This is my first attempt at building a bobber.

Yup, it's a twin. A lot of people like to call it a wanna be triumph. The SR500's are awesome.
