Back when I had my sportys I used to have Rider Insurance here in NJ. There weren't many companies to choose from back then. So when I got back into bikes when I got this SS750 I didn't know what company to use. I called Rider up to get a quote since I used them over 10 years ago. I only wanted Liability and theft but wanted the max Liability coverage. They qouted me $380.00 per year. I started checking around and ended up with Progressive for $184.00 a year. What is everyone else paying? I know NJ is one of the most expensive insurance states but it would be cool to see what others are paying.

In Florida it's not mandatory to carry insurance on bikes, so I don't. I figure I only paid $1,600 for it so it's not like I'm screwed if I wreck it.

We have All State on our stuff. The bike is around $90 for the year.

We had Farmers back a few years ago. The house was hit by lightning and I had to make a claim for around 3 grand. We found out the following summer that the AC unit had been damaged too, and I contacted them again. They said they couldn't put it on the original claim, since it was closed. So they made a seperate claim. No big deal right? I had to pay another deductable and later found out it was even worse than that. In Jan my morgage payment increased $180. I contacted the morgage company to findout what was going on, since I was on a fixed rate. They said there was an increase on the insurance that is taken out of the escrow and they were recovering from that. The insurance co put me on high risk, becuase I had 2 claims in a year. No one from there explained to me this would happen. I was pissed!!! But that wasn't the end of it. The following Aug my insurnace was up to renew and I get a letter from the morgage co that the insurance co is dropping our home owners insurance and we will have to get insurace threw them. You don't even want to know what that would cost. I started shopping around and the best price I could get on all the vehicles and the house was with All State.

Insurance companies, wiether its for your medical or for your possessions are just a scam. If you pay your entire life and never have a claim then your a great customer. But you ever have to use it more than once, then your a bad customer. Your cutting into there profit. So they get rid of you.

Its just like how they jack up your rates becuase you have a couple speeding tickets. Scam!
Now they won't cover aftermarket stuff on a vehicle unless you have seperate coverage. Scam!

I could go on and on all day. I hate insurance companies. Hopefully I can get them in the end. The wife took out an insurance policy on me. So I hope they'll have to pay out the ass when I die!

As long as you're wearing a DOT helmet I'm 99.99% positive you don't have to have it. I think you can go w/o a helmet if you have something like $100K in life insurance, but I'm not possitive on that. As for getting on base, there's ways around that. Like, oh say you were to go up to the visiter center with your ID, license, registration, and POI for your car. They give you a sticker and you put it on your bike. I'm not saying to do that. I'm just saying that could possibly be a way aound it.

Here's what I found:

Is insurance required for motorcycles in Florida?
Under certain circumstances Yes. Insurance is not required to register motorcycles as with four-wheel motor vehicles. However, if a motorcycle operator is charged in a crash with injuries, then the owner or owner/operator is financially responsible for bodily injuries and property damage to others. If no liability coverage was in effect, then bodily injury/property damage liability insurance must be purchased and kept for three years to avoid license and tag/registration suspension or to reinstate license and tag/registration after suspension.

What about motorcycle passenger insurance?
If you plan to carry passengers it is a good idea to ask your insurance carrier about the need for carrying passenger insurance coverage.

Is there a minimum age requirement for motorcycle passengers? Florida law does not address a minimum age for passengers. However, other laws may apply such as endangering a minor.

Yea....I thought I got a decent rate. I wanted the maximum for liability and medical. You never know when something is going to happen and god forbid if I had a passenger and they got hurt. I also got uninsured motorist coverage, and theft. I didn't go for collision because I figured if someone hit me it would be covered and if I went down because of my own stupidity it would be big and the last thing to worry about at that time would be the bike........

Thanks for the info on florida insurance. I think I'll keep it just in case I got pulled over on base it'll keep them off my back it is only $67 a year I think I can pull it. I think insurance is a scam too. I always get the cheapest I can get legally with the largest deductible. We only have to get it because people aren't responsible enough to save the money they would pay to insurance in case of emergency. Its a rip-off.

I'm in florida... mine is about 130/year for full coverage (geico) and uninsured motorist etc. I figured the bike is new, and if some retard pulls out in front of me or I lay it down, I have very little out of pocket to fix it.

Here's what I found:

Naw, you dont even have to wear a helmet. Florida law says you DO NOT have to carry motorcycle insurance IF you have at least 10,000 in medical coverage. That does not mean that if you cause damage to someone else's property in an accident that your free from recourse... your STILL responsible to pay. All that said, I dont carry insurance on my bike either. Geico quoted me at 677 a year, progressive at 666 full coverage with a 200 deductable and $5k in accessories. I'll probly cover it soon just in case.

i have progressive $208.00 per year. That is full coverage with $5k on the accessories. My car insurance co. State Farm quoted me over $700.00 yr without any accessory coverage and i've had 2 cars with them for 6 years.
