I'm looking for an inexpensive but reliable tach for the toolbox. I really don't want to buy a timing light/tach combo. Just looking for an inductive pick-up tach.
Anyone have any suggestions on a brand or type to look at?

I have a Tach/Dwell meter from Sears. About 10 years old, does its job and they STILL sell the same model, so they must hold up well. Mine hasn't let me down

Thanks guys,
What model of sears is it Erik? Sometimes we can't get the same stuff north of the border. But at least I can have a look online and see what it's worth now and then see if I can get one here or not.
I know I can get a multimeter with the tach function on it. But thought if I could just get a good inductinve pick-up tach with not a lot of other gimicks on it, I'd be better off.

I have a tach I use on small engines that works great. I used it on my Spirit after I cleaned the carbs. I will get the name and model of it next tuesday when I get back to work. You can get them from any Echo dealer. It is a small hand held tach that you just point to the spark plug. It is adjustable to 4 cycle and 2 cycle.

Perfect, that's kind of what I'm looking for. Just something small and simple.

No problem....glad this noobe can help out. If you can't find them on the net let me know and I will give you the Japan address and phone number off of the box. This is a great tach. It will even go up to the 14000rpm range for the high reving 2 strokes and low for the v-twins and one lung 4 strokes............
