I'm looking to get a jack and wanted to get some suggestions, pro/cons.

I've read about the jack not going low enough to get it under the bike, problems with stability when you have it in the air.

What are you guys/gals using?

I wanna remove the back tire and make sure the bike stays on the jack in the process.

Thanx

Most jacks don't seem to fit the spirit that well. The motor has a casing piece that sticks below the frame. It happens to be just about where most jacks come across. The other issue is the width of the jacks, seems like they barely fit. I got one from a chain store up here. It has all of the above mentioned downfalls. I just make sure that when the bikes on it, it's strapped down tight.

Check Lowes, That's where I got mine and I've never had any problems with either bike on it.

I've got a Craftsman and I'm pretty happy with it. Think I paid about $100 for it.

The height is juuuuust low enough to get under the bike. Jake's right - that motor case piece is a pain in the ass, but if I line it up right before I slide it under, it goes fine.

Stability is great on it. The jack also has a couple eyelets to hook in ratcheting straps (which were also included) for more stability.

Thanx once again.

I cant tell by the pic but is your bike lowered?

I'd like to lower mine and mod the back tire. I wanna make sure it'll still fit under there afterwards.

I guess I shouldn't be so lazy and just measure the bike and then measure the one in the store.

Craftsman was gonna be my first choice cuz of the popularity and price.

Thanx for the info.

Both our bikes are 1 1/2" lower and the jack just makes it under them. Lowes has them in the tool dept near the automotive stuff (jack stands, ait hoses, etc) it comes with the straps like the craftsman and I picked it up for $69.

Funny how us guys change the price after we buy something, before we buy we're adding the taxes and everything to figure out if it's a deal or not.........women on the other hand....... $69.99.....oh look, it's only $69.00. Or the other great line.......they are leather and they were on sale. :luxhello:

I bought mine at Schucks. It works alright. I had to build an adaptor to go against the frame and keep the jack off of the motor case and oil filter. Harbor freight has a pretty nice one for real reasonable. It was $59.99 last time I was in there.

It's amazing how a woman changes her thinking after she's been divorced. Things roll off your back alot easier. :undecided

Guys, I have a 02 1100 Spirit. I bought a Sears Jack for 80.00 + Tax. It will NOT fit under bike with out MODS. I made hard wood blocks to bypass ENGINE that drops below frame. About 1 3/4 " high. You need to measure the front and back to get the differant widths. THEN you need to raise bike about 1 3/4" for jack to slide under. GOOD LUCK. Trial and error. :sweatdrop

I saw a pretty cool one on the Scootworks.com site,... It's non-hydralic and is made specifically for a number of bikes,... Good price too,... I have to go over to my buds house to use his,... So I'm thinkin' about getting one for myself,... Check it out,... Later,... YellowMan

I've got the craftsman. It does the job. I've also had the bike as low as it could go. If the jack doesn't fit under the bike, roll the bike on somthing, like a book or 2x4 or something to raise the height of the bike. It'll fit just fine.

I got me a Craftsman about a year ago for a Birthday present from my best friend. It fits fine, but I found that I have to be real careful about lining it up just right. The jack rails are about 1.5" wider than the frame rails on the bike. Just an FYI, it's on sale for $89.99 until 3/11/05. The one thing that I hate about it is my bike has been sitting on it since December. I can't wait till the snow goes away! :_sure:
