I was riding my bike back to work after lunch today and had a backfire and now my bike is only running on one cylinder. I guess I will pull the tank tonight and see what I find, but if I had to guess the rear cylinder carb has come up off the boot and it is letting air between the carb and cylinder. That is about the only thing I can think of that would have caused this.

Anyone else have other ideas?

I would think that if the carb came off the boot you would smell or see gas. You may be right though, anything is possible

Drain/refill the tank and check the plugs for fouling.

I messed with the bike last night and it is running great again. To tell you the truth I didn't do anything I know of that would have fixed it just checked everything I could think of to check and when it was back together it ran. I think I will run it in the heat of the day today to get the same conditions as when I had the trouble and make sure it is good. I looked at the plugs and they looked good, but I can check the plugs again when I run it to look for any trouble with them.

I would like to know what caused it since I am riding to Dallas a week from now, but may have to chalk this one up to bad luck.

How did you know that you where running on only one ? Is that possible ? Not being a smartass . I am just interested .

The bike started running real rough and if I let off the gas it would die. To check if the cylinders were firing I started it and gave it enough gas to keep is going, then stuck my hand at the end of the exhaust pipes. The front was pumping out a good volume of hot air, the rear was moving some air, but not as much as it should have been and it wasn't hot.

I assume is was still moving air since the piston would still act like an air pump for the volume of the cylinder.

I did think it was pretty cool that even without the rear cylinder operating properly a Honda could still limp home.
