I made up an LED strip like mine, but with turn signals. It was a royal pain in the dick to make. I have been thinking of making them and putting them on ebay. Am I wasting my time, and what do you think it would be worth.

On a side note, I found somebody on ebay who started making the tail light and selling them right after I posted up on here how I did it. So I made a couple and put them for 10 bucks less than he has them. I just dont know if the ones with the signals are worth the trouble.

Here are some pics of it.

not the one with signals but it would look the same.

Nice work bro... Even as slim as that is, I dont think it'd fit under my fender. Lol...

On the business side of things, I am curious to know what it cost in materials. How much labor time goes into making one unit? What do you consider yourself worth as far as an hourly number goes? Then decide what kind of profit margin you'd like to make, factor in a percentage of defective units, and put it all together for a fair selling number.

When you get all that done, let me know how much you want to sell them for.

The cost depends on what I factor into it(solder, resistors, diodes, heat shrink, electrical tape, 3m tape, ect)some stuff I have from other projects, some stuff I have to buy. The brake lights are MUCH easier to do, because they are one piece. The ones with signals are actually 3 pieces I have to piece together. They also have 2x the wiring and 3x the electrical componants. I am selling the brake lights on ebay for 40 bucks. If I were to sell these on ebay I would probably ask 55-60. For peeps on the forum I think 45 shipped is fair.

If anyone wants just a brake light I can do those for 30 shipped

I have to order the parts for these so if anyone is interested let me know by friday. That way I can get it all at once. It usually takes a couple days for me to to get it, and will take a couple more to make and ship them.

I also will gladly give you a refund if you are for whatever reason unhappy, not that I think you would be, they are pretty damn cool.

Yeah I can. It isnt exactly 6" though. It would be 5.7" for the red and 2.4" or 3.5" for the amber. The longer ambers are also a couple bucks more for me to get.

I would be carefull about beating the other guys price, keep the quality and make sure you make enough to stay in business. Just because his is lower doesnt mean he will not get complaints about quality. I do like the light, could you double the row to make it more visable or is it bright enough to get the attention of the other drivers. Sure would beat my lunch box.

The price im cutiing is profit, im still making a little, hes just marking them up a ton.
I could probably get two stacked. Its for a stock shadow fender right. I have one I could mold it to. I think once they were attached to each other and curved they would be less flexible.

I mounted mine with 3m double sided tape. It is crazy strong stuff, and when applied correctly, it wont ever fall off. I use alcohol to clean the surface and make sure it is dirt and lint free, then stick it on. when I had it on my stock fender, the two bends on either side kept wanting to come loose, so I put a clamp on the bends and let it sit for an hour. It never came off, and I had to work to get it off to put it on my steel fender.

I forgot to put in the description tht the leds make your signals blink faster. I have leds in my struts for signals and left them fast, but you can wire in a heavy duty resistor and slow them down. You can get them from radioshack for about 5 bucks.

tip: when applying the 3m, if you scratch the backing before peeling it off, it'll activate the adhesive a little more.....at least on some 3m shit.

Yeah I probably could. Let me play with a fiew battery types to see which is the best to power it. It wouldnt be able to blink, would just be on.

So I tried this one today. Without modifying the helmet, It would be an akward setup. The lights are designed for 12v so for them to be that bright it needs a 12 v battery. I used one of the small 12v security batteries that are about half the size of a AAA. Even with that small battery, and the smallest switch I could find, its still a little big to mount. The strip would look good on the helmet, but there isnt really a place(or a good way) to mount the bbattery pack. I looked underneath the liner just out of curiosity, it wouldnt be to hard to notch a piece of the styrofoam and fit the battery in there, but im not crazy about the idea of modifying the helmets saftey feature. Im not a helmet designer, so I dont think removing that small amount of foam would matter, but I would rather not take the chance.

I have seen a helmet strip that surface mounts to the back of a helmet, it is very small and is even linked to the brake so it gets brighter when you hit them, but it uses rf and the sending unit is in the replacement lightbul for the brake light. If you dont have a standard incandescent light, ou cant use it. it was also about 100 some odd dollars.

Thanks to suggestions I have another type of light to offer. It is half and half to be used for signals. It would work if you are running a sidemount. I am in the process of making this an all in one light, that will do run/turn/brake, but right now its just run/sigs. I have to find a cheapER way than the kury controller to do it. anyhow, here is an idea of what it looks like.

I can do many different things with these lights, if you have an idea just ask and I will see what I can do. They can be different lengths different colors, ect.

Hey dude theyre friggin awesome but I was wondering? Couldnt you use the led load equalizers that they make for switching to reguler led turn sigs?? Also Ive seen the wiring gadget on the web that you supposedly need when you switch to leds and have a single turn indicator bulb to prevent voltage feedback across the bulb lighting up both sigs? Is it neccesary??

When you hook these up you use the wires for the stock sigs. They go to a harness under the seat. I have a pair of 10mm leds as my sigs and they are not diode isolated(thats all the gadget is) and I have no voltage back feeding. They just blink twice as fast as normal. You could use those load equailizers but they usually run 15 to 20 bucks from the auto parts store. I dont mind the fast bliinking, if you did though you could use those or the big resistors from radio shack. The resistors are a cheaper fix.

I hooked up one of the strips I made to mine to be sure and the sigs operate independtly as well.
