Now that Metzler has made a 200 rear for the unmodifide spirit . I have a few questions . Is it really 200 mm wide or does the aspect ratio make it less ? Can I put one on at home or do I need to take it to the stealer and get it balanced ? Do I need to change the front to match the rear ? Thanks Joe

I guess you will have to take it somewhere (does not have to be the stealer) to get it balanced... I wish I could put it on with my struts... but I gess it wont fit with them.. I have to make a chose cool and low or big and mean... I could get both but will have to mess with the subframe and my wife still wants to come with me every time I get on the bike... damn!. and the front tire is totally up to you... I really dig the narrow tires up front.. and I like the small tire on the back also! at least we have a choice now!

My wife won't ride on my bike . And she is not as pretty as your wife . If I where you I would not complain . I bought her a p pad because of my springer seat . She has sat on it once while the bike was off and parked and said that it was to hard .She now wants a sissy bar for her on a bike she is to chicken to ride . I don't think I will wait for her get over her fear . I will prolly slam the bike and lose the p pad . My wife just started driving after 9 years together . Fear of driving . I have only had the bike 6 months . I got 8 and a half years before she takes a ride .

IF , I put one on it would have to go with the flow of the bike . It might not have the level of function that she would desire . I would rather spend money on things that would make me happy than some one who won't ride with me .

I watched that fight live . The scary thing is the guy who gets his arm busted did NOT tap . He wanted to keep fighting . Most times the elbow hyper extends and it takes a few weeks to heal up . That guy had 4 or 5 surgerys to get his arm unfucked . Forest Griffen who is also a SBG fighter like me got his arm busted like that , and it is still ugly .

I dont know how you can do that man!! 4 0 5 surgeries!! that is crazy! Adrenaline junkie i guess... I saw Forest on tv... and they talked about the fight ... he got his arm broken but he won!!!

Forrest's arm is still fucked up . He did win . He fights for SBG . We are one of a few gyms that bases rank on performance only . For a real fighter , fighting is a way of life . It is ok for senior instructors not to fight . However if you are young enough to compete , you compete . I have been on leave raising my 2 boys . I plan on returning soon and fighting again .

The width of the 200 on a stock rim won't be 200mm. There'll be too much pinch on the width to bring it back to the rim. Even on mine with a 5.5" rim it would have been wider going with a 6" rim.
It's still going to be a lot beefier then stock. Running different compound tires "may" create a problem. It's not the preferred method, but lots of people do it.

RJ is correct. Most (motorcycle) tires are designed for a specific rim size (ie..the width, mainly)....By reducing the the recommended width of the rim the tire is designed for you are restricting not only the maximum width the tire will inflate to, but undermining the handling characteristics ..... Not here to tell you not to do it...but....only to tell you that in most circumstances the rim size dictates tire size....for safety and peace-of-mind.

I haven't slapped a 200 on a stock Honda wheel....but I have read on the www ...many have....I won't....I like the way they move with OEM rubba.

The aspect ratio really only comes into play when looking at tire height.

Here's the thread that lists the link you are talking about Mr.Sinister: http://www.shadowriders.net/forums/showthread.php?t=893&highlight=metzeler
I know they have rated the 200 for a stock rim, I just don't think you are going to get the total width out of it.
Have a look at the difference in the VTX rim mod compared to a 6" rim: http://www.shadowriders.net/forums/showpost.php?p=7445&postcount=15
I still think the 200 would look a lot beefier then the stock tire and would more then likely give you what you are looking for. I just don't think you are going to get the full 200mm out of it.
But you will more then likely have to still alter your subframe. Which shouldn't be an issue for you seeing you don't ride 2-up.

You can do the 200 mod. with your 9.5 and still keep your sub for riding 2 up.
I have the vtx mod. with 9 1/4 struts and still have my sub frame. Granted I did have to do some trimming on it, but I still can ride 2 up.
Just passing you some info., just in case you are still thinking about the mod.

I had to cut off all the round tubbing on each side of the sub frame. The tire would have rubbed the metal tubbing if I didn't. With yours being 9.5 you may not have to cut off as much.
