I've been thinking about getting some floorboards but I'm now having second thoughts. About a month ago my riding buddy who had a Honda 1300 was coming down a winding mountain road and wiped out on a curve, broke his leg in a couple of places, collar bone and some ribs. I went to check on his bike for him while he was having surgery and the salvage man said he sees that happen on that particular curve fairly often. According to him, when the riders lean into the curve, the floorboard contacts the pavement and stands the bike back up straight, making the rider unable to negotiate. Anyway, his bike was totalled and my buddy has sworn off riding any more. Has anyone heard of floorboards being the cause of accidents?

I think anything that is bolted to the frame and will not give, will cause the bikes wheels to lose contact with the ground, pegs generally are designed to fold up so as to not cause this problem as bad, I think some floorboards do this as well, I think some do not, I know some who have lowered have pegs and pipes scrape, and if anything rigid, not designed to fold up makes road contact it can cause this problem to happen, and has caused accidents, so keeping that in mind, make sure you get something that is designed to fold on impact with the road, and this should help, at least thats my opinion anyway for what it's worth.
