Any of you dads that have a son in the scouts know its pinewood derby time! My son and I have worked on his car for a total of 6 hours. He's extremely proud of it and wanted to show ''dads internet buddies'' his end product.
Ofcourse I wanted one too and then my 5 year old daughter wanted one as well. Here is our line up... Daughter on the left, son in the middle and my mean machine to the right.

I did this when I was in scouts. I took first place in my pack and 2nd in the district.

I put the axle in a drill, spin the axle and take a fine grit file to deburr them. Then I rouge and buff them. The wheels I sand a slight degree into them as to have less wheel surface on the track (less surface = less friction) friction is your enemy. After makeing sure there spaced correctly and the car is tracking true, then I graphite the wheels. :)

GREAT JOB!!!! My son and I used to build and race them when he was little... He's 13 now.... DAMN, I miss those days!!!!

He did take second place one year. We named that car pas-n-gas....

I wanted to name it Half-fast... My wife said that out loud real fast and figured out what we were doing!!!

Good luck

Tip. Rout out some wood towards the ass end and put as much weight as you can in the back!!! Be over weight, a little. take a dremel or drill to the weigh in. Remove just enough to pass on their scale.

Oh yeah, have you done the boat races yet???

We lost BIG time the one year they had it. The blown 1/16 scale big block we installed sunk it!!! LOOKED GOOD THOUGH!!!

Thats cool. I find that putting the weights in the center of gravity seems to be the best. A little forward of the rear axles.

THanks man!

Never did the boat races. They never offered them. These den leaders are so lazy. If I had the time I'd love to show these kids some fun!

When I was in Industrial arts class in high school, we made those cars and put co2 cartiage in the back. We drag raced them using fishing line and hooks on the bottom of the cars to guide them. They would FLY.
