As some of you may know, I had my bike stolen a few months back. This past Thursday I went out to the garage to check on the trickle charger I have and fdound that someone had cut the chain on my door and tried to pry it open far enough to get to the chain on the inside door.
I got a report filed about the attempt and notified my insurance agency, so all is good so far, but it pisses me off that some jack-ass is back and trying for more.
Inside the garage the new bike is tied down using 2 concrete anchors with Almax chains and a Cisa lock through the streering column. Doors are locked with pretty standard bike chains and Masterlocks, so I imagine getting in wouldn't be too hard, but getting the bike out should require a lot of damned work.
Buddy of mine suggested running live current through the chain on the door as well, but frying a kid would probably not be the best thing for keeping me out of jail, lol.

I would invest in a silant Alarm hooked up to the door that will alert you
when tripped. Catch these fucks in the act-- thats the only way to put this shit to a stop. I'm sure any other bike owners around your area has had their shit fucked with too.

There were 8 bikes stolen within the week mine was taken back in Oct. When I talked to my insurance agent, she said there have been 20 taken within 5 miles of my place over the last 2-3 weeks.
I've let folks in the neighborhood know so that they can keep an extra eye out on their bike as well, and will give the remote alarm some research to see what I could setup.

your gun your property -- self defense
hehe. If I didn't have multiple arrests (no convections) on record for assault, assault with intent, aggrivated battery, etc. from my younger days I'd consider that. At this point, cops aren't real friendly once they see you've been picked up multiple times for fights and such, lol.

Night vision security cameras are relatively cheap. You can hard wire them to a vcr and power it from a motion detector in the garage. It won't run unless there is motion in the garage. You can get them all over the place. I think Pep Boys sells them among many others. They know you have a bike. They will be back. Even if they break in and then find all your security measures, they still broke in. Catch those bastards! :pissed:

I work in the security business, installing security systems and camera systems in homes and businesses. I've been doing it for 10 years and have seen alot of things. It sounds like you off to a good start with chaining the bike to the concrete, but given time and the right tools, they can still get the bike. Installing a burglar alarm in the garage and house, would limit the time a criminal has to get the bike loose. In many cases it scares them away before they get anything. A full blown alarm system can get expensive, but not as bad as expensive as a camera system. The nice thing is that you will save on your home owners insurance with a monitored burglar alarm.
If money is an issue, and you already have a good hand gun, then you could go to Radio Shack and get a wireless motion activated sensor like this one

Mount the motion inside the garage, so when it goes off, you know someone is in the garage. The base unit will sound in the house so they won't hear it. But this is only effective if you are home to hear it. I've seen people use these for Driveway Sensors and they work good, but they also pick up dogs, cats, leaves, and other things moving. But inside the garage it should be pretty reliable.

Here is a link for inexpensive security cameras that have night vision.

I have two cameras which feed into a computer and the feed is stored on a remote server. I can actually monitor the live feed remotely through the web. The cost was under $200 for the camera heads and the software is public domain.
But I have to say the most effective security device I have is a 80 lb, 40 mph, steel jawed fur covered, Schutzhund II German Shepherd cruise missle with 4 on the floor. Not only will she track down the perps, she'll drag their screaming butts back.
A few years back a guy that had broken into dozens of homes broke into my basement while my wife and I were away on a trip. A friend looking after our dog found her in the basement and the robber sitting on top of the refrigerator. He had been sitting up there bleeding for over 24 hours! She bit his arm so hard, it broke. He had tried crawling back out of the window he had gotten in through and she had dragged him back in.

I knida like the idea of wiring in 220 to the door. Just put a sticker on the door to warn people. If they get zapped then at least they were warned.
