I had the same problem doc, what worked for me was soaking a rag in WD40 and then once all that goop shit is off cleaning it with a cleaner of sorts. Only thing I had was Windex, it worked but took a little more effort since it would just bead off.

how close to the edges do these covers fit on the stock plastic covers? Ive been thinking of one of these myselfs along with the lighted chrome side covers but havent seen any close ups to these covers installed.

I was wantin one of those bolt on covers on account of there were so many nice ones to chose from an then I remembered seeing a post last year from someone who'd done the bolt on and how he'd said that one of the bolts or nuts (iI forget which) had rubbed a hole into his radiator, anyway for that I decided to go with the replacement rad cover just so I wouldn't chance rubbin a hole....guess what I'm getting at folks is that may be something you might consider when getting those covers.....

This is true and I will tell you how I know mcvierh. Once I got the chrome cover bolted onto the facotry plastic cover, I proceeded to re-install the cover. It would NOT go. Turns out, the bolts were to long. I had to grind the bolts down quite a bit for it to go. So MAKE DOUBLE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR TOLERANCES!!!! Glad you brought that up mcvierh.
