When you get them just write on them "return to sender" and give them back to the mailman.

Razor, the scariest part is writing down all of your bills, including loans, mortgage, etc. Write down everything you spend in a month. Make it detailed, and include all of your expenses including discretionary spending (coffee, cigs, etc.). Make sure to include your once a year bills as well. House insurance, car insurance, property taxes, etc. if you pay those monthly, just go ahead and include that amount (if you pay them once a year, just divide that by 12 to get a monthly expense).
Then put down all of your income. Most are going to say that they owe more then they make, if that's the case you need to seriously consider some options, debt consolidation, getting rid of some of the debt (sell if off if you have to). Key is, you want a budget where you are working at paying down your debt while leaving you some "fun money".
A rule of thumb for any budget to work...........PAY YOURSELF FIRST. Without giving yourself the discretionary cash to spend, no budget will work.
I'm no expert in this, I just know we were close to bankruptcy once and it took a long time to get things in order again. It's not something that happens over night or in a year, it took us a few years to correct it.

Rusty, excellent sound advice to anyone in trouble!!!

Damn straight good advise. Write it all down. If you can sacrifice your cable or satellite for a couple months, do it. Get rid of shit you don't need to live to get back on your feet.

BTW You need your bike to live. Motorcycling is a necessary evil!

Forgot to mention, on your 'yearly' expenses if you budget for it monthly, start a savings account to put that money into. Make sure you don't have access to it with an ATM card. Make it inconvenient for you to access the money. The money put aside there is for the bill when it comes in. You'll appreciate it on that day!

Well stated Rusty. Financial management is sort of my "thing" I have a B.S. in business and a Masters Degree in management and that is the kind of work I do. In order for anyone to develope a workable budget they must first get a thorough understanding of their current income to debt ratio. Most folks end up spending WAY more than they earn and slowly slip into a state of excessive debt. Most often that becomes a game of paycheck to paycheck living which ultimatly becomes a downward slide. Pay your self first is great advice AS LONG AS YOU CAN CONTINUE TO PAY DOWN DEBT. . The one piece of advice i would add to Rusty's outline is to pay more than the minimum amount due on all debt. Even if it is only $50 or $100 each payment. It makes a HUGE difference. Resist the urge to buy luxury items unless you can make the purchase in cash. Hang in there and slow and steady progress will lead to a debt free existence. Stay strong brutha!!!

Razor, its different for everyone I believe but Rusty is right. You need to live by the truth that no one can live a champange life on a beer income, therefor write your bills down, decide your ultimate goal, eliminate those bills you can do without, set a goal for savings (minimum of 1 months mortgage) and take it from there. But consistency and long term planning is the name of the game bro. Also, if your honey is not 100% with you..... you will fail.

You got some really good advice here. Only other thing I would suggest is put back some money every pay period into savings....even if it's only $20. Make it a habit and it will pay off in the long run. And, if you haven't done it, both of you start 401K's at work...if you have $$$'s taken out before taxes, you won't miss it.

Or you could just send your paychecks to me....I'll take care of them for you :leer:
