We went for a ride yesterday. Havent been out in a while, I guess due to schedules and packing. I felt pretty good. It's true that when you stop "thinking", you do better. I have a problem sometimes going around wide angle bends, not the tight ones. It feels like I'm being taken out by centrifical force. So I started to do it again yesterday (probably because I was thinking too much). You know, "OK, here comes a turn, focus on what you're doing, etc."
So I just said to myself, dont think, just lean into it. and it worked!
Clint was behind me watching me get closer and closer to the outside line. He was thinking "This is it, she's goin down".
Another thing I keep forgetting to do is turn off my directionals! But other than that, I'm enjoying myself. I had to reschedule my safety course to June 1st or 2nd.

The funniest part about the new biff was that it was right up the street from OCC's old shop.

She did great though. She starting to pick her speed up a little. I can see each time we go out that her confidence goes up a little more. Now I have to get her on a hiway, so she can see what it feels like to have truck blow past you.

I found the same thing FFs, I would get nervous on turns or winding roads. I was out one day to clear my head and blew through the twists and turns like nothing.

It's true about the curve's. We all do it. No matter what the skill level. You have to think still about what you are doing. Yes, it becomes more natural but don't ever stop thinking and problem solving and think for the motoriist around you. Even though most will give you extra room and alot of times the right of way, just watch the other vechicles. When I started riding again this time. I thought, I am doing everything wrong and experienced riders would not do this. This does not happen to them. Then I Learned. YES it does and they all have problems. When we were out shooting our promo video for the ride group. The front rider has rode for 15 yrs. or more and 8 bikes were lined up behind him to go out on the road from a parking lot. He started out and half way dropped it right in the street. Picked it back up and balanced. Then we all took off............Oh By the Way........Those trucks buzzing past you.....The 18 wheelers..........WOW...I think the fumes get me more than anything..
like the energizer bunny. Keep Going and Going and Going.

Actually experience can be a dangerous thing. (Depending on the individual) an experienced rider can sometimes be too confident and sometimes forget some basics, or even more dangerous get the "It will never happen to me" mentality. I've been ridin' on two wheels since before I can remember. My graduation gift from my folks was a XS360, so alot of things come natural to me, but I do keep in mind...This is a machine, it has no heart, it cannot feel, and it will kill you if you give it the chance!

I've noticed (and another friend of mine pointed this out) on the turns, look ahead to where you want to go, becuse the bike is gonna go to where you are looking.
Since he said that, I've noticed that it's true, but it just may be a sub-consious thing too, and I'm doing that only because I heard it mentioned.

Now as for the smells, I love deisel fumes, the smell of fresh asphalt, wet concrete, welding fumes, and tar on the road....does that make me wierd? :rolleyes5

Keep up the good work there Susan! :wink_2:

As long as you aren't dragging your nose on the ground or standing behind diesels with your nose to their pipes, I don't think it would be too odd!

Susan, I think from what you've said that everything you are experiencing is part of learning and from that you gain experience. I'd say you are doing fine, trusting yourself in the corners is something that comes from practice. When you take your course, I'm sure that is one of the things they will teach you. I know they spent a bit of time on it in the course she took. M@man is correct in saying look to where you want to go and the bike will follow, that's also taught in the course.

I kind of partial to the smell of all the restaurants and outdoor grills. Especially coming home from work at dinner time.

They told us that when I took the MSF course too. I notice it driving in a car too. If I'm driving along and look to the side to check something out on the side of the road the car starts to go that way.

That's called "target fixation" we've already discussed that at length.

Something else on the look thru the curve. During the course they teach you to turn your head all the way in a sharp turn or u turn. Again the bike and body follow where the head points. Now I have to put that into action.
Here, Here on the smell of goood foods and a fresh watering. Keep up the great learning Susan........... :gossip:

NO, can't say I've ever ridden behind you before, so I'm not familiar with that smell.

Yeah, we were talking about target fixation last week. I guess I actually absorbed some of the information. Clint gave me an article to read about a woman who "target fixed" on an oncoming truck. (pick up?) It was a long article and pretty intense but it helped me understand the whole idea.

I like the fresh cut grass but not the fumes. Especially truck fumes...they give me a headache.
Oh and sometimes I laugh when the bugs hit my face shield. It's kinda funny the way you hear the splat! :cheeky:

That would be true, but he wouldn't have to worry about any 'fumes' coming back his way.

There aren't enough articles written about stuff like that. Look at most of the biking magazines and they gloss over most of the stuff. I really think there would be a demand for a "new riders" magazine of some sort that would deal with topics like this and other topics that most magazine feel are too "basic" for their readers.

There's nuthin' like the strong smell of a sewage plant early in the morning...:bathroom: , I pass one on my route to my mom's place . I keep trying to hold my breath but somehow the odor always finds it's way up my nose :twitch2:. It's just awful!!!!
