I want to hook up a couple Kuryakyn silver bullets as driving lights.
Question is, is it ok to just tie into the headlight power in the headlight bucket, or do I have to route new wires and a seperate switch?

Hey Terry, it's been awhile!
I'm no expert on bike electrics, but I'd think as long as the current draw doesn't exceed what the headlight switch is rated for, you should be OK wiring the lights into that circuit. Machinehead is most likely to have the exact answer you're looking for, I really just wanted to say HEY! Hope everythings going well for y'all!
Later!

Terry, I have the halogens on my bike as running/turns in the front. One thing I have noticed since I put them on is that when I have them on turn, you can notice the headlight draw down when the "bright" part of the signal is on momentarily

T_S, How much current do these bullets draw?

Im not sure, theyre the small halogens, Kuryakyn part # 2303. I went ahead ant tried it and it worked, just not sure of any long term issues.

Well T_S,
If there is an issue with overload when an electrical accessory is installled it usually is discovered down-the-road, unless someone on the forum has posted a fix OR you installed Hollywood Spotlights.
Most of the time I (or yourself) wouldn't experience many issue's dependent upon the wattage introduced.
Most of the wiring (I've found) is 18g....the light-duty switch is alloted so much and after that .....if the switch burns.....a replacement involves replacing the harne$$.
Long Term....may be good....dependent upon mileage.....short term...dunno...Does the wiring get warm after a few hours in the saddle?

I havent felt the wiring to see if it does, Ill do that tonight when I get home.
They've been working fine, and I been ridin the shit out of it since I put em on.
I think Ive got 350 miles since I put em on.

T_S,
What type of bulbs are used in these puppies? The wattage rating should/maybe located on the bulb's base (in watts usually).....are they LED or incandescent?
Learning or discovering wiring guage and it's current carrying capacties may be the next step for you.....a very simple procedure, and to know, off-hand, the amperage you're dealing with will give you the next number in the equation....
....also, the headlight switch is not rated as heavy-duty.

ok, the wiring does not get hot. They are halogen bulbs.
I have another issue though, the heat they create cracks the lenses....arghhhhh!!!
I put in a new set of lenses already. Is there something I can do to reduce the power to the lights, and hopefully reduce the heat?

Radio shack has shrink tubing, great to protect those connections.

Do you own stock in Radio Shack? That's like the third post where I saw you mention them.

They have a lot of usefull shit for an affordable price. Shrink tubing, soldering shit, etc. I actually hardly ever shop there, unless I have a wiring project. I am having a hell of a time figuring out the wiring diagram for the Spirit! All looks like a bunch of streams of piss in fresh snow!!
