The best tire size to fit under the stock fender on the 17"CBR rim, without trying to relocate the fender is a 110/90-17. The only thing I can find in this size is a Bridgestone BT45R. The thing is that this size is designated as a rear tire, can it be used on the front wheel?

I've had Bridgestones before and have no problem with them. And I've also noticed that several Harleys have the same tires front and back so I really see no problem with this.

The next size that I can get is 110/80-17 which would increase the gap between the fender and tire by an inch. That means I would have to make a new fender mount bracket to bring the fender closer to the tire.

I don't see any problem with moving ahead with this. I've seen a 250 mounted on the front end....the big dealio is whether or not it handles like a wet dream or not.

Clearances are one issue, but if it doesn't corner/maneuver well you'll be back at D2.

Since you are pioneering (from what I can see) this mod you will have to report any and all circumstances you're confronted with.....minus your neighborhoood pothole stories.

Pic of a machine that will give you the confidence....

btw...

Most all rims are designated for one tire fitment.....in other words...installing a wider tire than what was originally specified may distort the contact patch area.

One example is slapping a 180 on the 1100's....a few at HSN (Chopper Scott) have confirmed that an inflated tire results in a smaller width. I have a chart I can post if you need it (it's not on this HDD).

From this standpoint 10mm would be the max.....maybe 15....dependant upon the actual width...

k?

I figured it would work. Just wanted another opinion. It's the same width as the stock tire. I was looking for something that would be close to the same overall diameter. The stocker is approx. 25.92", this one would be approx. 24.78". I could go with a 120/90-17 but I think I would run into side clearance issues.
The 110/90 will increase the gap between the fender and tire by .56". That's easier to fix than the 1" increase that I was looking at with a different size.

Please do me a favor? Get rid of that pic, my eyes hurt now....
