Dude dont insult Big City Thunder Baffles with your home made junk. The R&D and flow charting done by a Pro racer will NEVER compare to yours period!

Just say you home made baffles..........

Download the pics in first post.
2 5/16 rod couplings
2 5/16 stainless bolts
2 5/16 stainless washers
2 1/4 fender washers
stainless was used so not to rust
I used rod couplings so threads will not stick out of exhaust pipes
I welded the fender washers to rod coupling. Drilled hole in pipes.
Put stainless allen bolts in hole then tighted down.

I will put pictures in photo gallery.

Chill out let people try things out before you dimiss it, racing and performance tech for BCT started somewhere too. Tinkering in the garge trying to improve on something.

Let dirtwarrior send a sound clip or have some other people try his design and if it works and its pretty close to your Boyfriends brand, he saved all of us a ton of money.

So go drink a spritzer change into your pink leathers and relax!!!!!!

sure would be nice if the small handfull here that have a problem with cheap mods would just keep opinions to themselves and let the threads stay unposted for the ones that give a shit about the topic.

with that said, im kind of interested in what it would sound like, im running cobra's with no baff's and i would do a cheap mod to drop the exhaust tone down a little bit for a deeper rumble, the only reason i dont want to buy the real BCT is because i dont really want to quiet it down at all, just make it a little deeper tone....picky i know

dirtwarrior
07-25-2007, 11:03 PM
With the mod I did. It made the sound a little deeper with less popping on decel.
The reason I used the thread coupling is so I wont have threads sticking out my pipes. Stainless was used to prevent rust and matches pipes closer.http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb298/dirtwarrior/bct2.jpg

Sorry if pictures are a little blurry.

snap us a pic of them installed. those look like big fender washers with the hole in the middle blocked. looks like it would block too much of the flow creating too much back preasure. the ones in my BCT baffles look about half that size

dirtwarrior
07-26-2007, 08:11 AM
You can vary the size of the washers and the angle it is in the pipes. I used this size to decrease the sound coming out of my pipes a little, I go into work at 6 am now.

dirt i too leave for work at 4am and sometimes push my bike down the block a bit so i dont wake up the neighbors baby...

looks like your on to something..... i have cobras that i cut down and they are loud as hell.

i want something that will make a deeper roar but not loose the sound i am getting now. this looks like it might do the trick....

keep on coming up with the cheap mods...... the rest of us appreciate it .

pats, take a chill pill bro... give dirt some credit for trying to help the rest of us out....

I didnt know it was this loud until the neighbor lady asked "Oh you go into work early now" She wasnt complaning but I took the hint. I have lived there about 16 years and them about 5. They are nice people so I dont want to piss them off to much.

I made some home made 2 1/2 inch exhaust mated with the stock head pipe it sounds good and looks very close to the road house slip ons. I bought the pipes here. Not bad for a $32 investment. I bought 1 30" and 1 18".

That washer might be too large. If you get too much back pressure you'll get hot spots on your head and you can run into over heating problems and early detionation/pinging..

Tell ya what Dirtwarrior...if you'll go to a auto parts store (Autozone-Advance) an get a 4" exhaust reducer, say your pipes are 2" then a 1 7/8" OD to 1 1/2" OD and weld a 3/4" fender washer on center with a small bolt to tack it to for center on the edge weld a 5/16th nut then insert the large end into your pipes up to the 1st or 2nd predrilled baffle hole install 5/16th bolt and ....magic.....just to take your idea a step further...take care, Ride Safe. I have never heard of anybody not gaining power with the real BCT baffles. Nobodys knocking him for trying to build his own but for $60 you get what you pay for.. Dirtwarrior thinks is just the washer making the power its the combination of the tapered baffle and the washer that makes it work. he would have had a better shot cutting up a stock baffle and useing a washer.

OMG you are like a stuck record. So what if mine is not as good as the original, it works for what I need it for. I am going to mess around with the design until I find the right combo. Dude if you put as much effort into getting laid as you do putting my stuff down I guarentee you will feel much better.

Dude I tried to explain your washer isnt a BCT its just a washer. If your heart set on making effective baffles use a baffle and weld your little washer too it. You'll get your lower sounds and correct back pressure for more mid range. Your little washer by itself isnt going to work.. I have a extra set of Cobra baffles that I'll mail you for free to help you out. Cut to fit and make them work weld your little wantabe BCT washer and no money out of your pocket!!

And about getting laid I get mine bent over I'll show you!!

Im done here! Let me know I'll send you baffles

NAL
07-27-2007, 02:13 PM
ok, they ain't bct since bct is a company but it is still considered a baffle

Dupo
07-27-2007, 02:56 PM
I think its good he done his own mod, BUT, i think for it to be effective it needs to be put further into the pipes like the BCT is mounted.

Not to mention, BCT uses that reducer piece that the washer is connected to so it restricts the airflow just a tad along with that washer to produce the midrange gain over having open pipes.

I think if you get yourself one of those pipe pieces and weld the bolt/washer onto that, you'll have a replica BCT and gain the midrange AND save yourself some cash over having to purchase at BCT.

Also, that link isn't the one i wanted to post. I had another one with directions on how to build one just like the BCTs ... for way less money. Cant find it now though. Link is close, but missing the pipe reducer. Really needs to be set further up the pipe though to make any difference.

mcvierh
07-27-2007, 08:33 PM
Dirt, what I believe the reducer will do is take the ehaust in the 2" pipe and compress it as it comes throught the auto-exhaust reducer from 2"to 1 1/2"...for the length of the reducer which is about 2" if you use a 4" 1 7/8 to 1 1/2 ...thats 2"'s of each right at the tail end of your pipes ...it will increase your HP on account of the restriction and creat a way deeper rumble sound....no other bike will sound like yours for sure....in fact anyone who does it will have a one of a kind sound... if you just use a reducer that is smug into your exhaust ...kinda of like V&H offers in their tips except just to the inside of your pipes with the washer doing all of the work at the end of the reducer....

Tell me if this will work.............What I want to do is run my stock head pipes w/ no heat shields with some slash tips welded on. I am going to wrap the pipes with thermo wrap for the obvious heat reasons as well as to thicken up the appearance of the pipe. Can I just put some BCT baffles into the stock head pipes and run like that? I know I'll have to rejet and all but just wanted to see what the exhaust experts in here thought. Thanks fellas.

I would call Jim at BCT and ask him. I think if you have more then like ten inches and you can put the BCT baffles six inches in they will work.

mcvierh
08-01-2007, 08:46 PM
my thinkin is that the stock header is way to small of a pipe .....the whole point is to open up the restriction that the smaller headers cause, then harness the power via the BCT, or like mods....and just my thinkin, puttin the BCT or any similar mod on a stock header just adds to the exhaust restriction....
