OK I am ready for the Noob treatment!

This is my first post here. i was sent from some guys over on the Shadow Discussion board. I just recently bought a 2003 Shadow still mostly stock with no mods as of yet. I had intentions of relocating to sidemount plates and tail light to get rid of the lunch box on rear fender. Smaller bullet style turn signals and lowering the ass.

Now I guess my first question would be how low can I go and keep the shocks?

My wife is not a big rider but I would like her to go with me sometimes and she will steer clear of it if I have struts and her ass hurts all the time...lol

I was told 11.5" was it but they are only 12" now center to center? .5" would still be to high just looking at it.

I would post a pic but loaned digital out to parents and have not got it back yet. Will get some up this weekend. I will get some pictures up on my website this weekend and stick a link to them on here.

I cut 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 coils off of the stock shocks to lower Susan's (FFsLady) It's still a touch high since we left the brake light there.
She doesn't ride 2 up though. I would say start with 1 1/2 coils and go from there. Low sitting there and low with a passenger are two completely different things

I know you can go to 9 1/2 inches and still ride 2 up. I didn't cut my shocks, but I ran a 2 1/2 inch lowering kit from scootworks with stock shocks and was still able to ride 2 up. They also make a 1 1/2 kit also. The kits will run you about $100.
Cutting the coils like FF said , is the less expensive route. Have fun with your mods., there's a shit load of them!!!!!!!!!!! :Peace!:

Hey AFF, how much of a pain in the ass is it to cut the springs?
I've never done that, and was considering doin' that to mine.

Oh, and car99r..FO and welcome to the family.

Thanks for the FO, I was starting to get dissapointed because I was expecting the now famous Noob welcome. You guys are talked about in several other forums.

I have found a couple of places that you can send the shocks in and have them cut to whatever length you want for 65-75 dollars.

I have a friend who is working on a license bracket with light for me but we need the rear wheel spacer from the left side. Anyone know where I can get one of these with out taking mine off? Too nice of weather to be tearing it apart right now. I would have to ship it to him and wait way too long...lol

I used a dremel to cut the spring with a reinforced cutting wheel. After that I used a angle grinder to flatten the tops of the springs like the factory setup

People take themselves, us, and this site too literal sometimes. We've chased many a noob off. But I think they just lurk about now.

Thanks for the info!

I wanted to welcome the noob, but I also wanted to keep on topic (or atleast try)
I think if they lurk around they'll see that's a heart felt welcome, and not a real FO...anyway...
My rear shocks are air adjustable, so I'm wonderin' if I should just leave 'em alone or if trimming the springs will help or hurt.

Now that's a welcome....

You guys have a great place here. Hope to learn a lot and gather more interest in shadows and possibly start chopping mine when I finish my Triumph chop.

No PIC= NO TRIUMPH CHOP!!!!!

Well you can see several on my website but here is an older one. It now has 10" over WG springer on the front and 200 X 18 rear and 2.15 X 21 on the front. No bars or tank and seat yet.

This picture was the day I got frame with the original frontend and wheels on it...

I like the way that triuphs sounds.... nice bike.. If I had the $$ and no wife (she would kill me if I did this) I would buy the new frame from wildcardcustom and drop the motor there, buy a stretched tank and ride the hell out of that.

Actually I wanted to sell the Kawi to help with down payment on new Fatboy. I decided to ride it over about 1 block to a guys house to see if he was interested in it. He had a couple already. While I was sitting in his driveway the SOB made a loud popping sound and started blowing oil all over his driveway. He still wanted it though but I figured it wasn't worth shit now. He asked if I would be interested in an old Triumph that ran and I figured being the prices of the british bikes nowadays he would want a few hundred plus my bike. He opened the garage and said he would trade me even up. We swapped titles on the spot!

As you can see on the website the Triumph was pretty nice when I got it and I rode it for awhile. I then decided to chop it instead of new fatboy for something to do and to have something no one else has around here. I have learned a lot and had fun doing it. Decided to buy the Shadow so I did not have to rush getting my toy done.

I bought a set of wheels off ebay and never got them so I lost $300.00 right off the bat. New set of wheels are on the way and tires are already here. Not sure about seat and tank yet but I know I want a long stretched tank and solo seat. Neck gusset and rear motor mounts are being cut right now so I have to weld them in and then figure out jackshaft setup and off to powder it goes.

I will get a pic of it setting with no wheels and get it posted.

Thanks for the compliments guys
Chris
