The kid was 21. He was riding w/ a group of about 6. Up ahead I didnt see him go down but saw him slide/flip off the road until he disappeard. All kids of dust and smoke floating around. I get up closer and he isnt around. He went over the embankment which goes down about 30 feet. I saw on the news later that night that he died, and he was doing a wheelie then lost control. Usually cars aim for you in this area but this one did it to himself.

It's sad to hear that, but some of these guys bring it on themselves. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Ever since I have been trying to sell my bike and get a rocket, everyone has told me I am going to end up killing myself. I think different, not because I'm bullheaded, bu because I have been riding going on 11 years. I know the dangers of riding any bike. I know my OWN limits and when and when not to do stupid shit. I don't plan on getting one and then the next day going out and doing wheelies and all kinds of crap. (i've never been good at them anyway) Of course you never know when it's your time. Who knows how much riding time the kid had but giving one of those bikes to an inexperienced rider is like giving a loaded gun to someone who has never even held one let alone pulled the trigger.
you won't, just don't be like...
...me!, i guess and try not to get stupid on it you'll be fine, crotch rockets are no different than any other bike, the risks will always there, no matter what you ride

but crotch rockets seem to bring out the dumbass in people. I know I'd prolly do some stupid shit if I got one, which is why I went with a cruiser.

I agree, the crotch rocket makes me think I wanna go fast, faster, fastest....with my cruiser....I just sit back and enjoy.....take in the scenery and becareful..not to say it cant happen to me but I think I ride a little more cautiously on a cruiser than I would a crotch rocket.....
Being in insurance for the last 10 yrs, and insuring bikes, I can definitely tell you...there are more claims made on the sports bike than cruisers...the rates are higher for sports bikes for a reason....usually the claims are total losses, rider included.....
thats why i said TRY not to get stupid, you got to have some self control which i'm working on

Most people cant control their wrist action on a sport bike. You turn the throttle a 1/4 turn on a sport bike and you are really moving. You turn throttle a 1/4 turn on a cruiser and you are just making noise. On a cruiser we need to turn the throttle WO just to go fast. That is a major factor.
