I am wondering if we should break up the Forum like the old one and have areas for Spirt 750, 1100, Sabre, Aero etc.... It seemed to be overkill to me. Everyone just hung out in the General Area because the other Forums did not have much action.

I think with the individual bike forums, the tendancy to rabbit trail or hi-jack a thread was less likely. In the general discussion area, you were going to get hi-jacked, it was only a matter of time. No objections, I thought that was one of the best parts of the forum, people just having fun. But for the more serious threads about jetting a carbs or fitting mods, they seem to be more in tact in the bike specific threads.
Just an observation.

I liked the idea of each bike having it's own area. Was easier to find stuff that was bike specific without asking a bunch of questions. How about an area (maybe under mods) where we can post links for custom stuff that won't get lost in the shuffle.

The reason so much was lumped into general discussion was that people (myself included) would just post stuff there instead of the specific area where it should have been, in hopes that more people would see it.

Since we are starting over with a clean slate. The double posting of a topic in 3 or 4 areas needs to be addressed. They either need to be relocated or deleted altogether.

Make me a moderator I would love to get rid of the double posts that we were starting to see on the old site. Made me nuts!!!!!

It seems that the search tool in the new forum is better. I havent checked everything out yet but as long as you can see the unread posts, people shouldnt have to double post. I also like the idea of areas for different bikes. It will never be "perfect" Threads will go astray etc. Even if we have a "water cooler" section like Lisa's site, I dont think it'll matter because it's the twisting of the serious words into something comical that makes us who we are. I wouldnt try to change much. Remember, EVERYONE (except for Warthog) thought that Shadowriders was the BEST site. If it's not broken dont fix it. :p

As far as areas for each Bike, what do you all think these area should be?

For instance under Spirit 750 what would we want?

Mods?
For Sale?
Rides/Events?

Did you all notice you can collapse Forums so you don't have to see Spirit 1100 etc....

To keep it simple, the only thing really bike specific would be mods and parts.
Maybe:
Mods
Parts needed
Parts for sale
Like you said before, too many topics and things get messy. Everything else is common to everybody so no sense burrying good conversation in a bike specific area.

I agree keep it simple. When you get to setting your moderators give them a specific area to keep track of instead of the whole board. That might help

I dont want to complicate things but just think for a minute.....instead of having mods for each type of bike, maybe we should just have a mods area. My reasoning behind this...you can mod a mod. If there's a new mod for one bike, you may be able to modify it to fit another bike. If I have a spirit, I'm not going to look into the Ace area for mods....I may miss something. I also think that we all enjoy seeing EVERYONES mods no matter what they're riding. If its in one spot, we dont have to jump around to see what our friends with other bikes have done.
Whew! that was a mouthful!

There wasnt really alot wrong with the old set up.One thing we need back for sure is for some questions to be pinned. So people can read before they ask the question that has been ask a thousand times before, like(how do I remove my reflectors?)
This is very handy, and I think keeps down on the clutter.

The feature exists in this style of forum as well. It's called a "sticky". Anyone with a moderator status (that has access set) or anyone iwth admin status can open the thread and there should be a 'drop down' tool bar that says "thread tools" that they can use to make the thread a sticky as well as many other options.
There's a lot to learn on the admin side, just think of the adjustmenst we're all going through with this, and imagine over 1,000 more things to learn and you'll better understand what menace is going through with this.

A lot of questions about the forum can be answered on the FAQ (http://www.shadowriders.net/forums/faq.php?) area on the forum. If you aren't sure how something operates on here, you may want that to be your first stop. It will help Menace a lot seeing he'll be spending a bit of time on the admin panel.
