I am going to buy my wife a 02 SS750 and it has a big dent on the left side of the tank so I am looking to replace it. It doesn't have to be stock as long as it will work with the bike. If you don't have one but know of a web site that has them at a fair price I would appreciate it. Thanks, Justin
Sometimes you can nab one off ebay at a decent price.

there was one on e-bay 3 days ago that had been refurbed, bondo'ed dent.
how bad is the dent in the one you have? you might be able to fill it with water and freeze it, or insert an airline in the filler neck and plug the hole with shop rags, then gradually turn up psi. if the dent is creased, forget it. another good filler is angel hair fiber glass or j.b. weld, then sand down.

I haven't bought the bike yet. So I am trying to weigh out the pros and cons of the bike and the price it will take to make it look decent again. The dent is on the left side of the tank near the front corner. It is about the size of a mans fist with a indentation of .75 to 1.25 inch deep. If anyone knows of a place I can price an aftermarket or custom tank that would fit I would appreciate it. Thanks again, Justin.

i may have found one. it does have a small scrape on the left side about the size of a fatty pencil eraser, but not dented. i will ask him tomorrow if he plans on selling it once he installs his new tank. his bike is an 03 red 750 w/ ghost flames. he has a new tank, just not installed yet. i will post again on this on weds. night to let you know for sure.

What other damage is on the bike? From the sounds of the location and size of the ding, it sounds like it's from the signal light hitting the tank. About the only way that's going to happen is if the bike's been dropped on that side. I'd be looking for damage on the pegs, shifter and bottom of the frame, mirror, end of the grip, as well as the clutch lever, and anything else on that side that may have contacted the ground. Might as well look it over real good before you invest thinking it's just a tank. Have a good look over the bars while you are sitting on the bike to make sure nothing is bent or seem out of line. Road test is in order to see if the bars are straight when running in a straight line.
Good luck with it. As mentioned there's been a few tanks on ebay. There was someone on there a while back selling complete sets of repainted tins/tank in exchange you send him yours.

Well I bought the bike. The seller said a cager pulled out in front of him and he swerved to avoid a face plant on the hood of the car. There is a small scrap on the left mirror and right foot peg, but it is not noticeable unless you get real close. Bike looks great minus the big dent in the tank. The carbs are a little off it seems to hesitate on take off then rockets ahead. Over all not a bad bike for 2,500.00. the bike only has 8k miles on it. Just need a tank at a good price. I would be interested in the tank your buddy has if he wants to sell it. Thanks again for all of your guys help.

That's a little bigger then I thought it was.....definitely ground contact. I'd still want to take it out for a ride, if you haven't already. Something about a bike that's been put down, so many variables. My wife's bike was hit in a parking lot. They put it back on the stand, she didn't even realize it was hit. $2500 damage to it. Including bent bars.
On the one picture, not sure if it's the way it's been taken. But is the exhaust not running parallel with the bike at the back? Looks like it's running away from the frame the way the picture is. Not trying to pick it apart. Sometimes we miss things on a bike. Do you happen to have any other pictures you can post? Bigger in size.
If you can find a tank, at a cheap price you'll be in luck. Finding one, that's another story guys were buying them up for stretches. Have you tried any online salvage houses? Do a search on Google for "motorcycle salvage" and any that are close to you send them an email or shoot them a phone call.
I'm no body man, but I don't think I'd be repairing what is there now. There are so many things you can do with that bike.
Good luck with your search.

I road the bike a couple of miles. It shifts and tracks fine. Everything is good except the tank and the carbs being off a bit, I think I have another winter project. The pipes run off straight must just be the way I took the pic. I ll get more pics in a min. My wife has put in a couple emails to the bone yards for tanks. I have had good luck with getting good information off of dedicated forums such as this one. I was just thinking there has to be a few good tanks just lying in someones garage collecting dust.
