Well, Friday was the 2 year anniversary of the death of my buddy Big Wayne. I wore my old shirt from the bar we used to bounce at together to work. One girl was calling me the Great Pumpkin because the shirt is orange. She felt like shit when I told her why I had it on. Then something really fucked up happened. I was on break when I explained it to her. Just as I finished telling her, a guy I work with walked behind me, he was having a conversation with someone else in the cafeteria, and he said It is what it is. My face turned completely white, that was something Wayne always used to say. It freaked me out to say the least.
So me and some buddies from the fire dept headed out with a couple of friends and a couple of our girlfriends. The first stop was Danny's place. The guys that run it are the same guys that ran the bar we worked at. We didn't pay for 1 drink all night. My girlfriend got a little nervous when I told her that the guy we were sitting with was a high ranking member of the organized crime family that is in Rhode Island. I told her the police had probably already written down her license plate, that's why I used her car!
Next stop was the local sports bar we used to all go to. The waitress came over and said that the bartender was buying the first round, she knew Wayne too. Then when it camwe time to cash out they couldn't find our bill in the computer system. When she finally brought it over, there were no charges for drinks on it. Food and drink for 6 people for $50 dollars. Big Wayne was watching us and smiling.
Also. there were 2 huge guys sitting at a counter 6 feet from us, they had about 6 plates in front of them. I told my girlfriend that one of the guys was Greg "the Hammer" Valentine from the old WWF. They all thought I was kidding. Later on he turned around to leave, and lo and behold it was him! I nodded and said "How are ya?" He nodded back and said "Good." Awesome!
All in all it was a great celebration in memory of the big guy.
Thanks for listening again this year guys. You're the best.
