Anyone know where to get info on an S10, I've been looking but can't find what i need.

Its a '99 S10, the security light stays on even with the key off, when its running the ABS, security, low fuel and battery light are on, the fuel guage doesn't work ( yes, it has gas )and the temp guage doesn't work.

Who the hell ever decided to put computers in vehicles anyway ?

sounds like you got critters!

Maybe try getting it scanned at Autozone, they do it for free. Maybe they can pull a code on that one...

I didn't know they did that, I'll give it a shot, thanks.

Probably just one of those convinient trips that they charge ya $200 to clear on the computer.

They clear it for free.

I have a 2K S-10 Blazer, so I might be able to help. Our trucks are known for having the fuel pump go out. Yours is probably on it's way out. Does it sometimes have problems starting? If so, then your pump is about to go out. The float is mounted on the pump, which is why your fuel guage isn't working. And the pump is outrageous. We paid around $300 for ours and installed it ourselves. A shop is going to really be costly.

We also have an ABS light on. Turns out those are shitty too. You might be able to pick one up from an auto salvage. Just disconect the battery first. I believe my Blazer has four and they're all the same. Not sure how many the S-10's have. You should be able to pop the new one in and reconnect the battery. If it doesn't go out then move on to the next sensor until you get the right one.

Not sure what's going on with everything else, but I know of those two problems. You might be able to find more out on http://www.s10forum.com/

Kind of a stupid question...but did you check your fuses....It sounds like you just may have a fuse is out!! :headscrat I leased a truck and I used to pull the instrument fuse (stick shift) so it wouldn't count any miles.

I got rid of an 85 S10 last year. Overall it was a decent truck. Had a rebuilt engine, new carb, bedliner. The bad part is that one night I get in it to go to the store and the headlights don't work. Everything else works but the headlights. After trying everything under the sun to fix it I gave up and traded it in for 1000 bucks on an 04 Neon. Two pro mechanics, and about ten shade tree mechanics including myself tried to figure it out but nothing worked. About the only thing I didn't do was replace the whole fusebox.

I used to own a 79 Buick Regal with a 400 engine in it, and a mint 82 Buick Regal I bought off some old woman for 500 bucks back in 2000. The 400 blew up, and I wrecked the other Regal so I finally got rid of both of 'em. I'd like to get another one of those but maybe a little newer one like an 86 or 87. Any year El Camino or Ranchero would be nice too. I always liked the Torino too. I also used to own a completely mint 76 Ford LTD that I also got from some old woman. It had 5000 original miles when I bought it back in 98. But guess what? Like the Regal I wrecked the LTD while in a drunken haze. The only difference is that with the LTD I wiped out somones deck and ran the car up in their living room. Good thing I quit drinkin' huh?

Man, I drank too much coffee. I can't quit typing........... :crazy3:

HE SAID FROM WHAT YOU DECRIBED SOUNDS LIKE THE TRUE SYPTOMS
OF AN ( IGNITION SWITCH ), WHATS HAPPENING IS THERES SOMETHING FEEDING
THAT IGNITON CIRCUIT.(which is why the security light stays on even with the key off) .......
NOW-- TWO POSSIBILITYS.
ONE--THERES AN IGNITION SWICTH INTERNAL FAULT.(REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH)
TWO-HAVE YOU RECENTLY INSTALLED ANY AFTERMARKET SYSTEMS SUCH AS ALARMS,STEREO,CB YOUR HIGHPOWER DILDO, ANY THING?? IF YES, THAT AFTERMARKET SYSTEM IS WIRED INTO THE IGNITION CIRCUIT CUASEING YOUR PROBLEMS....FIND ANOTHER POWER SOURCE FOR THE AFTERMARKET EQUIPMENT.

So I need to unwire the dildo from the ignition switch ? Damn the wife is gonna be pissed !

Seriously though, it all happened at once on the way home yesterday. I went out last night and checked it and it was still screwey.I got in it this morning and it was like nothing ever happened. I just got this truck 2 weeks ago so maybe the previous owner had something wired in and disconnected it. It was about 15 degrees when I got home yesterday so I didn't mess with it much. I do some digging around the ignition area this weekend and hopefully I find an obvious problem. Thanks for the help !!!!!!!

I found a post with the same problem there, one guy suggested a data cable under the dash but the guy never posted the resolution.

Thanks for the link

Sounds like the ignition switch is giving in.. I would bet my last dollar that thats it..
HERES A BULLITEN ON YOUR PROBLEM...THERES NO MENTION ABOUT THE SECURITY LIGHT BECAUSE-- THE SECURITY LIGHT IS CAUSED BY THE IGNITION
CIRCUIT.

Some customers may comment on one or more of the following conditions:

The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is ON.
The transmission is defaulted to second gear (4L80/85-E).
The transmission is defaulted to third gear (4L60/65-E).
The instrument cluster is inoperative. Upon investigation, one or all of the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0740, P0753, P0758, P0785, P0787, P0973, P0976, P1860, P2761, P2764 and P2769 may be set depending on the vehicle.

The most likely cause of this condition may be a loss of voltage to the transmission on circuit 1020. This loss of power may be caused by an open in the ignition switch. This condition may also be the result of an incorrect installation of an aftermarket electronic device such as a remote starter or alarm system.

With the ignition switch in the RUN position, test for battery voltage at the appropriate fuse listed below.

If battery voltage is not present at the fuse, replace the ignition switch using the Ignition Switch Replacement procedure in the Steering Wheel and Column sub-section of the applicable Service Manual. Refer to group number 2.188 of the parts catalog for part description and usage.
If the vehicle is equipped with an aftermarket electronic device and the DTCs are being set when the device is being used, verify that the appropriate fuse listed above is being supplied battery voltage during operation. If voltage is not present at this fuse, these DTCs will be set due to lack of voltage at the solenoids. This condition is most likely to occur with an incorrectly installed remote starting system. If this is the case, refer the customer to the installer of the system for corrections.
