Newbie question....

Want to change the exhaust on my bike. I do not want something super loud, but a little louder would be better.

Any suggestions, Helpful hints, etc..... :gossip:

How much do you want to spend???? Are you going for any particular look? Lots of choices, from the whole saw mod to some kick ass burbs. Personally I have burbs and I think there the loudest, Others might disagree. But for looks and quality you can't beat them.

Only because I am cheap, but I can spend around $400... or so. Also, after installing new pipes, do you have to rejet, and how hard is that.

Exhausts are a big investment if ya buy 'em new. It's all in what ya like. I suggest that ya do the hole saw mod first. If ya got access to the stuff, it's a freebie.....I'd take my time and look around. Listen to the different kinds on other spirits or aces. The burbs are LOUD, but sound good. V&H straightshots sound good, kinda loud. Cobra classics are quieter, but have the sound when ya get on it. Like I said, it's personal taste....my .02 worth

I have the hard krome stagered straights.A little more money than the v&h and cobras but they are worth it.They are a double walled pipe so they will never blue.

Is anyone familiar with these custom pipes? I love the look! I am afraid that they will be too loud. check it out at www.burbspipewerks.com I have pain in the ass police around here. plus these are sraight pipes with back presure cones. I'm worried about blueing and wondering if I should go with v&h, cobra, or bubs instead. Any input would be helpful before I drop a shit load of money!

http://www.shadowriders.net/forums/showthread.php?t=207&page=4&pp=10&highlight=mirrors You mean some like the black ones in this thread ? They are really loud , but they mellow when the pipes carbonize on the inside . Stupid loud if you run lean ! When I finaly got the fuel air mix right it did quiet it up a bit . I wraped mine . I don't know about blueing . I do know , I melted my boot and some raingear on those pipes .

They are the ones on the website I put in previous message. That's my concern, no heat shields, no baffles, too loud, better off with Cobra, Hard Krome??? Their reputation stands behind their pipes, but I can't get the slow curve on those pipes just straight shots. only if I had a harley I could get the big radius pipes, they are wicked looking!!! Anyway, should I steerr clear of the BURBS and go with what I know, or take a risk and melt my boots? Anyone else have pipes like these? www.burbspipewerks.com

My boot melted because I need some extenders and my heel rests on the pipe . I can and will be putting in baffles . I have been told that Burbs don't blue when chromed well and coated inside . I don't know if Adam chromes his pipes anymore . I think they are best pipes you can buy . I don't know of any one selling there Burbs after they install them . I can not say the same about Cobra or Hardchrome . My pipes being wraped hold heat . I don't know if chromed ones would have melted my boot . For looks or performance you can't beat them . I get noticed by everyone .

... do you have to rejet, and how hard is that.

Would you venture off and rebuild a Holly or Rochester carb on a hotrod you owned?

Customizing your ride is cool and all, but if you're gonna wrench it yourself let us in on what you think about doing so.....

Burbs are really LOUD! They are made by a guy over at TSW.

When you say really loud, obnoxious loud or just when you really open it up? Can I leave for work at 6 AM without waking the neighborhood if I head out slow? I love the look of the Burbs! Anyone else making pipes with that look for the shadow? They are the only ones I have found.

I don't wake my 3year old or my 15 month boys when I go to work at 1045pm or when I get home at 5am . It can be very loud if you get on it . It was alot louder when the engine was lean and my pipes had no soot in them . A little time and proper engine tuning and it is not that bad .

I'm getting the Burbs, delivered sometime at the end of July, early August. He's using a new company in California to do the chroming which takes more time. Good things come those who wait! Shit, I sound like my parents. I hope the install is not too difficult. I'm taking the bike in for it's 600-900 check up at the dealer and will have them rejet, less for me to screw up that way.

Can't help. Mine is loud thanks to Big City Thunder Monsters and Cobra pipes. It is only loud when I get on it, I can keep it quiet until I leve my neighborhood.

I hope the rejet is with the new pipes installed . Burbs are open and run best with a stage3 kit and an opened up intake . I run mine with the BEANS BOX mod . I let my buddy ride my bike after the mods [ he owns an ace ] he was suprized . If you are going to rejet do the BB mod .

I was thinking about adding a thunder air kit and the pipes at the same time, then rejet. what's better general air kit or hypercharger??

Mr.Sinister
07-05-2005, 10:32 AM
They are about equal . The hypercharger can be a bit tricky even for a stealership . You may need some help from some one who got one to work. I think the s&s style looks best .

Will the Burbs work well with the stock air or is that something I must modify? I had to get some work done on my wife's car, so the $$ is a bit low. If I can hold off on the air intake for now, it would keep me in good graces with the wife. If not, I'll be sleeping in the garage with my bike!! Posted some pics in the garage finally!

Adam, at Burbs Pipewerks, said they would run fine with stock air. I'll have to hold off on the air for now. Daycare is too expensive!!!! Remaining mods may have to wait until next summer:(
