Coming home from the girlfriends house tonight, I stopped at the store to see my mom and pick up a beard trimmer.
I walk into the house and hear the tones going off on my scanner for a box alarm at the Ramada Inn which I had driven by about 5 minutes earlier. This place comes in once in awhile and it's always a false alarm.
The cops get on scene and I hear them saying they have heavy black smoke showing. Every truck in town gets called out in addition to several out of town trucks. All the while I have to sit here and listen to it on my pager because I'm on a medical leave. God damn it I am pissed.
To top it off they had to transport one firefighter to the hospital. I'm waiting for my guys to get back to the station to find out who it is and what happened.
Apparently it started in a first floor room with a mattress fire (no doubt started by some fucking idiot smoking.) Then spread to the second floor.
Should have known this would happen. A few of us went out drinking the other night because my buddy Dan got a job full time on the FD in the city next door. He starts the academy on Monday and he said we need one more good fire before he's gone.
Sorry for the rant. Just needed to vent my frustration.

I appreciate it, but I'm no better than anybody else. Just have an extra screw loose.
Plus, I'm only an on-call guy. Which to alot of people (mainly full time firfighters) means I'm not worth shit. I'm just glad that I can do my part to help other people. The best part of the job, for me, was when I used to work rescue shifts and the patients would thank you as you left the hospital. I can't describe how good that makes me feel.

I do my part in my full time job too. I work for a defense/aerospace contractor. I've worked on carbon composite rocket launcher tubes, cruise missile shells and even fiber used to make artificial limbs.

That's what my best friend Wayne used to say all the time. He died when he rolled his truck over almost 2 years ago. It's funny how often I hear that phrase said now that he's gone.

That's one thing I like to live by. There are some things you can change, and other things you can deal with. If you can't change you'll have to deal

Thanks. I heard that all the injuries were minor. I'm betting he probably got hurt on some ice or something stupid like that. It was about 25 degrees last night and right now it's only 20!

Hey man, it aint just famales, I run into people all the time that don't like things that are going on in their life, but don't have the balls to do anything about it. So they just bitch and moan and expect sympathy.

Glad he's ok. I know it's hard to fight fires w/ your water freezing as you're spraying.

You've got plenty of years ahead of you...concentrate on getting yourself well. You won't help anyone if you go into a hot fire and collapse yourself...
My Dad had 30 years of service as a fireman. :grin3: There are other things you can do besides fight fires...he did arson investigating his last 7-10 years and loved it.
Not all FF's slight volunteers - depends on the Chief and how big an a-hole he is. Same thing happened at the Sheriff's Department...some folks always have to feel superior. :dizzy:
As far as figuring out women, ya'll got to be intelligent to do that. :cool4:

Seriously though, she's a good woman. I bought the morton's custom triple trees ($695 plus shipping) All she said was "do you really need that?" but once I got them on she just said "Wow, I can really tell a difference!" She's not too into bikes, so I liked that compliment!!

I'm sure she is a good woman - especially if she has you as her ATM! LOL

No, I messed that talk up. She asked if the new trees would make the bike safer to ride... I said, "actually it'll make it a little more dangerous, but they do look really good, Right?"
all she said was, " oh my god, how could it be more dangerous?"
I just laughed, cuz' what do you say to that?

yeah, she had a previous boyfriend put down a bike, she just doesn't want to see my like that! Hopefully it never happens, I just don't talk about it. I just ride as safe as I can. we've been together 5 years and she's only seen my badly hurt once, and it wasn't even a trip to the hospital!! I rolled a four wheeler at the pontiac silver dome, and she said she almost ran out on the track!!

Good man. That's what I try to do for hubby - ride safe & smart. A lot of those "situations" you can avoid if you stay alert. Of course, he's typically behind me so IF I do something stooopid, I'm going to hear about it on the CB.

yeah, you have to look out for the other drivers, I'd like to think that I could keep my bike on the rubber if anything bad happens, but I'd also like to not find out!! I've had some close calls but nothing more than just locking the brakes and sliding a little
