Actually when it gets over about 65, it is too warm for me. I don't like the 70's and above.
I know, cry me a freakin' river...
Just aim that snowball toward Oregon and give it a good heave, I will keep my eye open for it!

Hey Shadow, I'm north of the 49th above you and we're getting the same up here. I've never seen so many bikes out this early in the year. Kind of pisses me off that mine is still in pieces.

I am pretty new to the whole riding thing. This is actually the first winter that I have owned a bike. So needless to say, I am not equipped with winter gear.
I rode a couple weeks ago to work in the morning. It was about 33 deg.
I was wearing gloves but the windchill on the highway at about 65 was not intimidated by my gloves! I froze MY ass off!
When I got to work, I went into the can and ran my hands under hot water. It took a full 5 minutes to get the fingertips to stop stinging.
That sucked, but I only work about 14 miles away from home, so not too bad.

Our bikes are not only in pieces, but snowbound in the (heated) basement. Besides my bike doesn't go near the road when it's wet. I dumped my first bike years ago in the rain and do not ride in it if at all possible.

Here are the pics I promised.
I went to the Columbia River Gorge with my Brother. He rides the burgundy Goldwing 1200. We stopped at a couple waterfalls along the way and took a pic or two, but the battery in my camera was way tired so I didn't take a lot of pics.

Shadow
03-04-2005, 01:30 AM
We actually found a couple piles of snow that were about 6 feet long and about 3 feet high. I think they were pushed off to the side months ago and since they never see sun in those parts of the gorge, they have not melted yet.
It was a perfect day. I don't much care for the gravel in the twisties. And of course the only place that it was, is in the corners where cars slow down and don't kick it away.
How far north are you mongoose?

I am going to have to pack a camera for that ride out thru Estacada past Promotorie piont . Poblem is my digital camera was a gift to my wife from me for christmas . Means that I can use it but if I break it there will be hell to pay . The twistys are clear on that one . I bombed thru that at 75/80 mph a week ago . What stealership did you take your bike to Shadow ?
Shadow
03-04-2005, 11:15 AM
I took it out to Lampher's Beaverton Honda - Yamaha.
That is were I bought the bike and figured I should do at least the 600 mile service with them.
I don't think I will go there again. Too far to have someone follow me so I can get a ride back.
75-80 in the twisties?! I have not had my bike that fast on the straight flats!! Damn, if we make it out to the park, you are going to have to give me a 30 minute head start! LOL!!
Mr.Sinister
03-04-2005, 12:24 PM
Those twistys are wide and long you won't be grinding pegs at that speed . You are also 4'' taller and out wiegh me by 140lbs . 6'2" 340 dam! That bike must feel like a bar of hotel soap . :wink_2: I think I had it less than a week the first time I took it to 100mph . 174 th and Foster with a decent hill to start on . I was trying to catch my buddy on his ace . I think I could slow down and enjoy the senery . I was by myself and felt the need to goose it a bit . I don't normaly ride like that .

I felt every bit of it yesterday. My legs are too long for the stock position of the controls.
I need to get fwds really bad. At the end of the ride yesterday, my back, hips, knees and ankles were killing me! I sit in a very akward position and is not favorable to riding.
Need to get 4 to 6 inch extentions and should be able to kick back!
Mr.Sinister
03-04-2005, 12:45 PM
At 5'10" I feel a little long in the inseem for my bike on long rides . I have a few mods that I have been kicking around in my head ie apes or a jockyshift , maby both. I think changing to many things at once would be bad . Like stretching out my my arms and legs at the same time and having to reach back for shifting . The new seat helped alot I sit a little farther back and it shifts alowing for better circulation .

Happend affter I washed my bike and took it for a dry . I saw it and when I came home I turned on the news . Wow . I still remember the Big one . I lived in Bend and still heard the explosion . And saw the plume hundreds of miles away . And the weather ............ I thought it was way to hot . I like it chilly . 73 is like hell on fire for me . I like it under 70 over 55 with a slight breeze . Oregon coastal weather . I wish I had more time to ride yesterday . I would guess that my valves where off a bit because my bike rides alot better after the maintnence . 1st was 0-20 2nd 20-30 3rd 30-40 4th 40-50 5th 50-100 now 1st 0-26 2nd 26-37 3rd 37-50 4th 50+? 5th ? It loosend up a lot . It had always felt if the pipes had a frog in its throught . I was pleasantly suprized to say the least .

RustyJake
03-09-2005, 10:35 PM
snow??? what's that? :crazy3:
I'm a little north of the boys in Washington/Oregon and we get some snow, usually about a weeks worth just after Christmas. Doesn't usually stay long, except for this year, just about 2 weeks. But rain, yeah winters are usually filled with our fair share of wetness. This past month has been unusually warm and dry for this area. I just wish my bike was back together. :shifty:
I live in about the only place in Canada where you can have palm trees. Not the same kind of palms you see lining the streets in California and Florida.

I was on Vancouver Island a couple years ago. I went on a fishing trip out of Uclulet.
We stayed on some ship that was docked and went out on smaller boats from there.
It was the Canadian Princess Resort.
The island is not that big, I am sure you have run across it a time or two.
RustyJake
03-09-2005, 11:10 PM
Yeah, know the boat you speak of. I've had a beer or two there, and they have pretty good food too. Been on the Princess boats there fishing myself. They call them the puke boats, and during tourist season you can see how they get that name.
I live on the east coast of the island, almost directly across from ucluelet.

73 and clear skys today . FF we only tell people that stuff about the rain to keep them from moving here . Last time somebody let the secret slip 2 million californacaters moved here and fucked things up . IE Beaverton/Hillsdale suburban industrial complex . We only get maby a week of snow . And we are in the middle of a drought that has lasted 10 years or more . We are the microbrew capital of the world and we have the most TITTY BARS per capita in north america FULL NUDE . Almost never a earthquak , no floods , heatwaves ,tsunamis, tornados , hail or any extream weather . Just lots of pine trees and friendly people .People from CALIFORNIA PLEASE DISREGARD ALL STATEMENTS AND CONSIDER THEM FALSE !!!! DON'T EVEN VISIT !!!!!!! The fishing is great and you can do it year round if you like . We are only an hour from the coast , mountains or desert and have the most productive small mouth bass fishery in the world The John Day River . You can ski , rockclimb , hike , anything outdoors with a 30 minunte drive . The only down side to living here is that many major bands don't stop here . And the Blazers .

Mr.Sinister
03-10-2005, 07:15 PM
No I got to watch my boys and then go to work . No fishing today . The boys are still to small to take . I myself almost died at the ponds last year . It was cold in the morning so I had on a bunch of layers ,long pants ,boots , sweater , t shirt , jacket , fishing vest with 20lbs of takle . I was washing off some fish slime from my hands on that steep muddy bank . Feet slipped out from underneath me and I fell in . I sunk like a stone to the bottom . It was early and I was the only one there . The weeds came up to my face and got tangled around my arms and legs and the water was extreamly cold . The bank was all mud and I could not get a foot or hand hold , I had to strip off almost everthing I was wearing .Taking off a wet sweater and jeans underwater is not easy . I left my stuff at the bottom and got some air . I dove back down to get it and threw it on the shore . I had to swim around in my underwear for a while until I could find a place to get out .

60 INCHES!! I don't think we even got that on Mt.Hood this year!
Just to show how crazy the weather is, we usually have 350 inches by last month.
It may be nice riding weather now, but come summer were going to be screwed when it comes to water.
Come on out, I just put chemicals in the pool. Should be swimmable by this weekend!
Find it hot, get em wet.
