All,
I MAY have someone who can paint my tins for a reasonable price. What I need is a website to view some colors. I have looked but am unable to find anything. Anyone know of a site where I can view colors? I already have a color in mind (some sort of electric blue like the pic below) but a website with a bunch of colors would be awsome. Thanks guys.

I'm going to do just a solid coat. Anyone know what I would need to do to my tins to get them ready for paint? Anything that I can do myself will save me some $$$. Less work the painter does the less he can charge me. My tins are in excellent shape as well as the paint.

Be careful. I have never seen a color come out as it appears on a website.

Look around for a local paint supplier. They should have a large amount of color samples from HOK, PPG, etc.

Alot of local guys will even sell it in smaller quantities.... That'll save ya..

Here ya go:

English Color

510 SW 23rd St
Oklahoma City, OK 73109
800-679-4665

They stay open till 4:00 on Saturdays.

Also, they will sell most PPG base coats in small quantities, often as little as 3 ounces.

However, they can mix anything for ya... Ask them about mixing PPG paints to match colors from ALSA, etc....

They can't match the FX or chrome colors though.

If you see something you like better in House Of Kolor, let me know. They won't sell that in smaller QTY's but, I know where you can....But again, see if they can match it first...

What you see on the screen will not be alike. Sample books from HOK are about 50 bucks and HOK Jobbers in your area should have them.

Alsa corp has all kinds of shit!!!!You can wet sand your tins with 400 grit paper just be sure to 1.NOT sand with your fingertips it will leave grooves and 2.DON't brake the paint surface don't go thru the clearcoat and it won't have to be sealed on the outside

I missed that question.

After you remove your tins, clean them with dish soap. Then use a good wax and grease remover. I use PPG DX330. Then, like low said, wetsand w/ 400-600 sandpaper. Use a sanding block!!!!!

Wetsand until the clear is no longer glossy anywhere.. This provides the tooth for the paint to stick too.

Be real careful around curves, etc. DO'NT SAND THRU!!!!

Clean again and deliver it to the painter.

I thought you sanded to bare metal and then primered. Didn't hear that from anybody. Just remember high school days with buddies painting their (so-called) hot rods.
I learned something new today and it's one less question I'll have to ask down the road if I end up keeping my bike.

BTW Nice avatar AA.

As long as the existing paint is in good shape, it can be sprayed over. If there are any rock chips, deep scratches, or it has been painted over once before then you should go down to bare metal.

I've done a few like this including my bike, I sprayed the flames over the factory base. Next time I'll have to go to bare metal as you don't want to get the paint too thick.

Thanks for the comp on the dog!!

Thanks guys. I don't think it would be 2 hard to sand my tins myself. Airbrush, do you think I could paint my tins with this kit http://www.alsacorp.com/products/kits_2/alsa_paint_kits.htm ? It says coverage is 10-30 sq ft. I'm no mathmatecian but I BELIEVE the sq ft of my tins can't be all that much. I guess since my bike is black I would want something that has a black basecoat? I'm a dummy when it comes to painting shit.

Purp... no matter what go and check out ACTUAL paint chips from actual quality paint retailers. internet doesn't do candies and pearls justice. colors change due to monitor settings too. I'm looking to paint my bike soon too. I'm doin it myself. My stepdad was a proffesional painter and he taught me. I'm alright but I don't do it for a living. I'm having some custom airbrushing done by his buddy for next to nothing too!! Hopefully it turns out...

I doubt it would. I usually use around a pint of base and at least pint of clear....

Those are also pre reduced so it might be dangerous to reduce them anymore....

That's not enough. especially if you make a boo boo and have to go back and fix it. ie; a small run, dirt, or a bug in the paint. that's only if you're doing it yourself, a pro would have a clean booth and no problems with any of that. still the coverage prob. isn't enough to get good coverage and like airbrush addict said you don't want to reduce a pre-reduced product any further

Hey, I could. Just have to wait till the temps get better... My shops not heated!!!!

Looking at my paint stash, I have little less than a pint of an irridescent electric blue by www.autoaircolors.com (http://www.autoaircolors.com) looks great over a black base.

Any good with a gun, you could spray this stuff yourself and have it cleared with a urothane clear.... Just need to make sure you don't get it too thick and keep everything clean...

Let me kow if you are interested...
