Alright, I'm far enough along on my projects to post some pics. I just finished taking off my gauge cluster, grinding off the brackets and installing a new speedometer down on the airbox. I was going to put it back on the triple tree, but once the old gauges were off, I didn't want to put anything back up there!
Other mods include: custom milled engine covers, custom lettering, cobra pipes, Kuryakyn Silver Bullets, lowered shocks (soon to be replaced with 11" Progressives). There's also a blue dot in the taillight, new mirrors (hated the rectangle ones) and a headlight visor. Oh, and for anyone who is interested, Kuryakyn's rear fender strut mounts for Harleys can be modified to fit other bikes.
Next up will be modifications to the seats, foward controls (thanks again M@man) AND, if I can find someone to make it, a longer speedometer cable so I route it up the frame and down the forks (to make it less visible).

Awsome! I like what you've done, removing the guage cluster. What did you do with the wires?

Thanks M@Man,
My gauge has LEDs for blinkers, highbeam and oil, so the only things I forwent were the gas light, temp gauge and tach. Although, I'm really missing my fuel light, so I may mount an extra LED on the airbox and hook it up to the gas gauge.
To answer your question, The wires run behind the airbox, through a bendy wire keeper that keeps another cable in place and up under that black plastic cover at the top of the frame. From there, half the wires go into the headlight and half go under the tank where they connect to the wiring harness. They conceal very well, I don't think you can tell it's not factory wiring.
In fact, it's because the wires hide so nice that I want to redo the speedo cable. I think it sticks out under the airbox all ugly like. I just need to find someone who will make a 54" speedo cable with the Honda forked end.
Oh, and if ya just want to strip all the gauges off, the wires all come off very cleanly. The blinkers, high beam, tach and ground wires all connect inside the headlight with bullet connectors. The rest of the wires go directly to a wiring harness under the tank. To get to the harness and unplug it, you don't even have to remove the tank. Just take off the tank bolts and lift the tank up a few inches. The harness just unplugs.
I ran the bike for several weeks with no gauges and nothing plugged into the other half of the harness and bullet connectors and it worked fine.

WOW....I have been dying to get rid of my gages and was wonder what I would run into! That is an awesome look!
I have been working (obviously not very hard since I started in the spring) on a set of chain handlebars because I don't like the big loop on the stock ones…and I thought chain would look cool. Now that I know I can get rid of the gauges I have renewed vigor for the project.
AND WHERE DID YOU GET THE WHEELS!? I have been looking everywhere. I can get a custom set for just over half what the bike is worth but I'm not sure it is worth it.
THANKS!

Oh yea...and there are some really cool risers available too. Have you thought of replacing your stock ones now that they are wide open?
Chain bars would be really cool. I'd really like to see them when they're done. They gauges came off much easier than I had anticipated, so if your inclined, I'd go for it.
The wheels are actually stock. In '88 it was one of the things they did to gussy up the 700 when they changed it to the 800. So, you might want to start hittin' up junk yards and parts places for '88 vt800 wheels. I'm sure they'd fit a 86' or 87 vt700 , the bikes are nearly identical to the 88' vt800.
I've just started to consider new risers and bars - It'll be a project for next spring if I get my act in gear. What have you found to fit? The ones I've looked at recently seem to be for newer bikes (granted like I said, I haven't done an exhaustive search yet).
SeaBass, if ya get a chance, post some pics of your bike, I didnt' see any in the garage - that paint job looks pretty sweet.

Well, I’ve come across a lot of really cool risers but apparently only book marked one. I will be looking for them again and will post them as I find em.
These are nice Ness risers but kinda spendy. Others that I have found are actually cooler then these so I hope I can find em again.
Risers (http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/list.cfm?model_ID=44&category_ID=62&sblid=Risers_for_Honda_Shadow_VT_700)
The Bars are pretty standard stuff you should be able to find anywhere in about any style. Obviously just have to work with the cables and etc. They have some nice universal brake and clutch replacement stuff to clean up the bars too. Remote master cylinders and etc.
I love the look of no sissy bar. The wife isn’t gonna like it but I gotta try it for a while.
You say you are lowered already but want to get 11” progressives. What do you have on it now? I’ve been looking but was wondering if the 10.5 progressives would drop it too low.
Anywho, really lookin good man, keep goin.

SeaBass, your bike is CLEAN! I put the 11" progressives on, but I'm out of the country for a few days so I can't post a pic. Before the Progressives, I had Pete over at SOTMC cut my stock shocks. After I got them back, I didn't think they were quite low enough, so I bought the progressives. The 11" Progressives are only about 1/2" lower than the cut shocks. I didn't know Progressive made 10.5" for our bikes. They don't list them on the website:
http://progressivesuspension.com/appview.asp?AppsNumber=61
You could definitely go to 10.5, there's a lot of clearance between my tire and fender with the 11"
BTW, my wife got used to no sissybar pretty quickly. Actually I just sold my bar (so I could buy the Progressive shocks) and she agreed that we were unlikely to ever regret getting rid of it.

Lang,
Thanks, I bought her in '90 and she was the hottest thing in town...just need to get er updated a bit.
I must have been looking at the 11.5 progressives. Good to know the 11s still leave enough room then. Man, this works out great...everthing I was worried about doing trial and error you've already done!

This is what I like to see here, sharin' of info and stuff!
Hey Lang, do you have any pics of the removal process? If you do I'd like to see them.
Seabass, take pics of the chain bars in progress, and post a before during and after pics when you get them done. Those sound pretty cool. :thumb:
If any of you other Classic Shadowriders have pics or mod ideas feel free to share them with us.
I'm waitin' till ridin' season is over before I tackle any other major mods. One of which will be to lower the entire bike by an inch or two, once I get brave enough to take apart the air shocks/forks.

Roger that M@. I've just got em tacked together right now so this is a good time to start pics. I am kinda torn about tearing into this stuff during prime riding season myself. I may just get the bars put together and chromed and wait till fall to tear it up.
NOTE: THIS ONLY WORKS ON THE '88 VT800. The 86-87 vt700 wiring is a little different, so some of this will be helpful, but some won't for those bikes.
M@Man, I had every intention of documenting the gauge removal a la your great forwards article, but I'm slightly compulsive and I have a hard time stopping once I'm into something. So, basically I flaked out. But, the whole processes is easy to lay out.
1. First, remove your seats and unhook your battery.
2. Then, under the gauge cluster there are 2 bolts securing the gauges to 2 mounting brackets on the triple tree. Take the nuts off of these bolts and lift the cluster off the triple tree. I found it helpful to also unbolt the front turn signals which are also attached to the front of the triple tree by one bolt each. NOTE: I think the stock signals look really weird up there with no gauges. I highly recommend mounting signals to the forks as long as your at it (vt700's and vt800's have 39mm forks, BTW).
3. Next, open up your headlight by removing the 2 bolts holding the bezel in place. NOTE, there are 2 sets of screws, one set for headlight beam adjustment and one set of the 2 mounting bolts. ONLY remove the two mounting bolts.
4. Several of your gauge wires are attached to wire harnesses inside your headlight. They are easily unhooked because they are connected via bullet connectors. Unhook your green/black stripe ground wires (it's the only wire with a female bullet connector on it, the rest will be male ends). Unhook your left and right turn signal wires (orange and light blue - You'll also find the wires running to your signals (same colors) right next to the signal indicator wires). Unhook the blue high beam wire. Unhook the tach wire (yellow/blue stripe). That's it in the headlight.
4. Remove the 3 bolts holding the gas tank in place. Gently lift the front of the tank away from the frame. Attached to the frame, right under the tank, you'll find a wire harness with a black/brown stripe wire (power or ground wires, I'm not sure which), blue/red stripe wire (oil), brown/white stripe wire (back light), light green/red stripe wire (neutral), grey/black stripe wire (fuel gauge) and a green/blue stripe wire (temp gauge). Just unplug the wiring harness. This releases the rest of the gauge wires.
5. Remove the gauges from the bike and reseat the gass tank and reinstall the bolts (torque value for the tank bolts is 16 ft-lb).
6. Now you will be looking at 2 mounting tabs that stick off of the triple tree with rubber bushings in them. Remove the bushings and grind off the tabs. I used the Everyman's Equalizer (ie dremel with heavy duty cut-off wheels. I used about 4 wheels for the entire project). I then used my dremel with a combination of metal cutting burr wheels, the cut off wheels, and sanding drums, along with metal files to get the front of the triple tree smooth. Then I used 120, 220, and 400 grit emery paper to get a nice satin finish to the front of the triple tree - It really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be - cast aluminum works almost as easily as a hard wood.
7. Clean up the filings and put everything back together.
That's it! If anyone ever needs to know how to wire up a Drag Specialties gauge, I can post that info too.
One last thing, M@Man, when I got my original shocks cut, Pete gave me a sheet on how to cut or replace the spacers in the forks to lower the front end. I'd be happy to send a hard copy of it or scan it and email it to you. Just PM me an address.
and, SeaBass, no need to pay $260 for the Progressives. Phat Performance Parts has them for $199 w/ free shipping.

Thanks Lang on the instructions for that mod, I know how it goes when you start something and get into it, it's really easy to forget to stop and grab the camera.
I did that with my forward control mod. I was lucky to get the pics that I did, and I do confess...one of the pics was staged becuse I'd do something and then I realized that forgot to take a pic.
It was an action shot too, can you guess which one?
I sent you a PM with my info, and also wanted to say the I apreciate your contribution to this forum.
You too, SeaBass, you've got a kick ass project in the works! I can't wait to see the finished results!
M@
SeaBass,
to the exent that it's helpful, here's pics of my bike with stock shocks, shocks cut by SOTMC, and finally the 11" Progressives. You can see I get a little lower in each pic. Actually the Progressives lowered the bike more than I thought. Now I just gotta figure out what to do with my kickstand, it's too long and the bike almost stands completely vertical on it. I guess I could bend it out a little or cut away some of the stop so it moves forward a little bit. Any other suggestions? I'd love to replace it with a chrome stand from a VLX or something.
M@, I'm guessin' you staged the cutting of the diamond plate. BTW, Thanks for your work around this place - It's so cool to have a place to bounce some ideas off of other classic shadow riders.

Lang,
Nice...just what I was looking for. I never understood why they jacked the backend up like it was a dirt bike in the first place. I think the 11" will definately do but if anyone wants to go lower there is a shop out here that makes em any size you want and I can get their number for you.
One question...does it bottom the shock before it hits the fender when you have load on it? (I'm not calling your wife "load"...some people have allot of bags too...not that I'm saying...anyway you know what I'm talking about.)
I HATE THE STOCK KICKSTAND. Damn thing sits it too upright as it is. Just glad I have an engine guard as many times as the wind has blown it over. I want to lay it over to the side more so I don't think moding it is going to work...unless you add more metal to it and I don't know that I trust my welding THAT much. Anywho, if I find anything I'll let you know.
SeaBass,
I don't know. I haven't ridden two up with the new shocks yet. In any case, I'm only about 160 lbs and my wife is only 100 lbs, so with the preloads set on 4 or so, I doubt we'll manage to bottom out. We generally do short day or overnight trips, so a dayback is about all we ever carry.
But, this info may be helpful: I was contemplating struts so I was measuring clearance with my shocks off. I was able to raise the rear wheel to a point where the distance between the upper and lower shock mounts was 9 1/8 inches. At that point it seemed like the swing arm contacted the frame. In any case, I couldn't lift the wheel any higher and there was still clearance between the wheel and the fender.
So, it seems like with 11" shocks, there's a little less than 2" of play before the bike bottoms out. Whether the shocks or the bike bottoms out first, I don't know.

Jardine's, with the baffles removed...loud, the dB results are on the exhust mod thread.
I did make a couple of slip in strait sections, it lowered the exhust note without droping the volume. I may get some more later and make those into a "baffle" (sorta) just for the night time rides...I've got some really good neighbors and I don't like to disturb them late at night.
In fact they just brough us over a lemon merengue pie the other day.
Middle America in my neighborhood, we still borrow cups of sugar around here and leave our doors unlocked. I think that's why I stick around, the rest of my family lives in other states, it sure as hell ain't for the corn fields. :laugh4:
M@
I didn't know Jardine ever made full exhausts for our bikes. I thought they only made slip ons like my Cobras. I wonder if they are still available (I know the slip ons are).
Oh, and as long as I'm askin' questions, M@, where did you put your licence plate side mount - shock bolt, axle, somewhere else? Got any pics?
I'm thinkin' of putting one on the axle between the axel nut and the final gear case. I want it further back and closer to the bike than mounting it to the rear shock bolt would allow. It looks like there's about 1/4" of extra thread on the axle, so i'm thinkin' an 1/8" thick bracket shouldn't do any harm.
Did you have any problem removing the old stock bracket? It looks like it would be fairly straight forward to grind off the 4 weld points with the fender removed.
M@Man
08-03-2005, 01:14 PM
I've looked around and I don't think they make the complete exhaust for 'em anymore.
As for the side mount...yeah, it's mounted on the axle. Word of caution, do not buy the highwayhawk side mount. I thought I'd save a couple of bucks and get that one, now I have to buy a new one. The piece of crap that I have now has cracked under the stress from the wind hitting it. It's not constructed very well.
The old mount on mine was dammaged and useless. It cost more to replace it, than it would for even the more expensive side mounts. Removal of what was left was easy to do with a dremmel, it took about 5 mins.
M@
It seems like such a simple bracket, I don't want to dish out a lot of cash on it either. There's a guy on ebay selling these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=4565418530&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
I think that's what I'll try.
M@Man
08-03-2005, 06:19 PM
That's what I thought too, but the metal used for the bracket was too thin and it's cracked. I have a buddy who has a buddy who is going to machine a new one for me, all I have to do is design it and he'll make it. I think I'm gonna extend it back a little farther, so it won't be right underneath the saddlebags.
M@
Alright, I went with the $35 Ebay side plate bracket - I'll see how it holds up. I figured I saved enough on the bracket that I splurged and got the Radiantz plate frame w/ LED illumination. I really like the way it opens up the rear end. I always felt that the plate and reflectors were too wide for the fender.

"go with the Cobras, i sell alot of them"
Please tell me more about the Cobras. I see them alot on ebay and one of the sites actually have sound clips for what ever particular bike you have. The VT800 clip sounds great...so, if I were to order Cobras from you, tell me my options, what the end result will look like, cost, etc.
I just added 5" straight risers, drag bars and new grips and pegs (including shifter peg).
I ended up using 1" risers and shims to fit the 7/8" bars. Because of the new angle of the master cylinders I also had to bend my mirror stems. Then I cut off my old shifter peg and driledl and tapped for a harley peg. One word of warning: because of the rubber mounts in the top tree, the new longer risers would bend when I moved the bars. So I ended up bypassing the rubbers by grinding out 3/8" washers to fit over the bushings so that the risers are now ridgedly mounted. No noticable extra vibrations or anything, and in fact, i feel like the bike responds better.
Let me know what ya'll think!

Absolutely beautiful !!! This is something I have been wanting to do but was afraid as to how it looked...it is gorgeous!!! Where did you get the risers and who makes them...and what about the handlebars?
Thanks!
the risers are 5" highway hawk's (http://www.baddogstyles.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=2460). The bars are wide 18* Flanders (http://www.sideroadcycles.com/ImportedMotorcycles/ImportHandlebars/ImportDrag/78DragBars.html). With these bars, 5" is as low as you can go and not have the bars hit the tank - they're kinda hard to find, everyone has 4" and 6". Specific Alloys makes some killer stainless 5" specifically for 7/8" bars, but they're kinda pricey. The Flanders bars are expensive, but the dimension were exactly what I was looking for. If you don't mind just a little more pull back and a little narrower bar, you can get bars off of ebay and elsewhere for more than half the cost of the flanders.
I'm tall, so I was looking to stretch out my arms, that's why I went with straight risers and very little pullback on the bars. Very different riding position than the stock buckhorns, but I feel like I have complete control of the bike. I throw it around now like its a dirt bike.

WOW! Nice Lang.
I haven't been around for a while because I've been in moving hell the past few months.
We sold the house and the wife, kid and I moved into a fifth wheel and are gonna be hitting the road for the next year or so. Kinda doubt I'm gonna get much further with the scooter for a while. The pics I posted of the chain bars are as far as I've gotten with them.
I had gotten to removing all the guages though and was wondering if you could tell me where you got your multi guage for the air box. I figure I can at least do that and get in a few rides before I put in storage.
THANKS!
Vicious, the bike looks clean. How wide are those drags? they're huge! It's a small detail, but I dig the painted radiator cover -that wasn't stock was it?
Hey Seabass, good to hear from you. Sounds like you got a lot of change in the works. Best of luck with all of it. An extended road trip with the kid sounds pretty cool. How old is he/she?
I got my gauge from J&P Cycles (http://www.jpcycles.com/productdetail.aspx?PID=5600262&cs=Harley&GID=72588FEB-1DE0-4F4A-9C6C-3A637A67C424&store=&page=&search=)
I usually only use J&P if I can't find it anywhere else 'cause they tend to be expensive. But, I've only seen this gauge a few places and its always within a few dollars of this price. If it's something you want to do soon, I've got a 10% J&P coupon that starts Friday at 7am CST and ends Saturday at 4PM CST. Just type in "1620" at checkout.
If you get a chance, post how you got rid of the junction box under your gauges. I've had a few folks w/ 86-87 vt700's ask me about that mod, but I can't help with the electrical since I didn't have that box to deal with on my vt800.

I'll have to go back and measure the bars, I really don't know how wide they are. They were on there when I got it. They were modified by the PO and it looks like they cut the grip portion of the stock bars and welded them on the new bars. I'll try to get a pic so you can tell what I mean. You can't tell from a distance, but you can definitely see the welds up close. With the rad cover, same deal, came like that. I dig it. I like chrome, but I don't want to bring any more attention to the rad. I like the look. Now to lower it, chop the rear fender, and all that good stuff.
looks like they cut the grip portion of the stock bars and welded them on the new bars.
Hmmm, I bet the '90 came stock with 7/8" bars and the PO wanted to use 1" bars. Interesting solution.

They could have done a better job of concealing the welds, but all in all I like the fit. I may try to massage them and see if I can get it to look better up close.

No noticable extra vibrations or anything, and in fact, i feel like the bike responds better.
Let me know what ya'll think!
I know this is a REALLY old thread, but those look the same as the stock bars on my '01 SS750.
I know this is a REALLY old thread, but those look the same as the stock bars on my '01 SS750.
no worries, I'm still around. They're pretty similar to the stock SS bars, but not exactly the same. The big difference is that they're 7/8" instead of 1". Life would be so much simpiler if Honda had gone with 1" bars from the get go. Otherwise, the SS bars are 29" wide with 7" of pullback whereas mine are 31" wide with 3.5" of pullback.
West Tn dawg, that's a nice lookin touring rig - how's your signal canceller work - is it a timer?

thanks man, I always appreciate comps after all the work - the vid that shadowriders62 posted I made for someone who wanted to hear the cobra slip-ons, but you'll see it's got me on the bike. I think I have some other still pics kickin around if you want to see them as well.
ya know the bike is small and it currently has a 24" seat height - I"m 6' 2" 160 lbs, so I look like a grasshopper sittin on just about anything. I was gonna make some m@ forwards for it, but I really like my mid-controls, so I'm gonna leave it as is - I kinda think its cool in a retro sorta way.

08-30-2007, 04:41 PM
yeah, dude... i always feel like my bike isn't long enough, but when i take off the rear fender and all that crap like the seat and bar i think that will change... also, i was thinking about forward controls too, because they look nicer than stock if they are clean and shiny, but after riding for awhile and seeing other people on similar bikes, i think i'm gonna leave my controls alone... it isn't like i'm too tall or anything... i just wish the bike was lower and longer... so, when i do my rear fender, i think i'm gonna mount it lower between the fender mounts, and hopefully find a way to make those curvy bitches look right... i definitely DON"T want to start cutting the frame...

M@MAN your '86 seems to have the same seat as my '87, I thought the '86 had a backrest as part of the whole seat. I have been looking for a back rest for my bike , Did you buy yours , if so where can I get one like it for my bike?

m@'s been mia for awhile but I'll take a stab - the 86 and 87 vt700 are identical bikes - it was the 83-85's that had the the built in backrest.
The only backrest made for these bikes was the honda-line one - it was an option available at the time. Nowadays the only place you'll find them is on ebay but expect to pay around $150 for it - they're pretty highly sought after. I sold mine a couple years ago, so I can't help you.
You're probably better off modifying one for another bike - I've not heard of a specific one which works well, but if you measure up a few, my guess is you'll find something that will work.

I recently bought an "85 in near mint condition. Someone elses bad luck was my good. She spent most of her life in a shed and I just rolled ove 17,000 miles. She was a beautiful machine, but she wasn't quite mine.
nice - I like! Probably the meanest 84-86 1100 I've seen. I bet it hauls ass.
You may want to consider bending your mirror stems to compensate for the funny angle of the MC's - or go with bar end mirrors which is my preference.

here's my new hobby. this is when i just got her home a week ago. i've already recovered the seats, swapped grips, did a little custom bending on the bars (the PO dropped it and f'd the bars up) with much more to come, i have a feeling. I'll post some more recent pics when i get a chance.

Well, she's still not quite done, but she is up and we did get to go for a ride on Memorial day. HOLY FUCK!!! This is a whole new machine. A new tank for sure. I started with a teardrop tank and that's what I will get back to but this one will do for this year.

yeah, the weather finally cleared up so I could give the shocks a better test. I put 80miles on em today over some twisty (for around here) and fairly rough roads. They're a fair amount stiffer than stock (to be expected) but not too bad until you hit a big bump or pot hole, then they go into the harder valving and they're rock ass hard. Wouldn't be so bad if I could shorten the shaft, if that's even feesable.
The IRC was cheap and just so happened to match the paint job so it was a no brainer, hope I can afford the rear soon, couldn't just pass up a brand new free Dunlop when I'm on a budget though.
The rails are just some 1.5" aluminum bar stock with offsets bent in them and the right side is cut out for the helmet lock.

StupidNoob
06-02-2009, 04:09 PM
probably, the bike was bone stock and i havent really screwed around with the airbox/intake at all. hmmmm im pretty sure i could figure out its function easy enough, but what are the consequences of ditching it?
welby
06-02-2009, 04:57 PM
It's just an enrichener for when the throttle is closed on deceleration, it's only function is to eliminate any popping on decel. I kind of like the popping personally. On yours I think it may be an enclosed part of the carb and you may need a block-off plate. Mine is all external and when removed you just need to cap all of the ports that it was attached to so you don't have any vacuum leaks.
StupidNoob
06-06-2009, 11:04 AM
dammit welby, i do beleive sir, that you are a bad influence. ill check it out, i need me some pop, its like crack to me. not that im into crack but if you have some.....
welby
06-06-2009, 03:42 PM
No crack, just meth, it's crack for cracka's. Yeah the air-valve is just another thing to go wrong/cause a problem (potential vac leak) IMO. I've got the carbs apart again right now, so I'll be doing away with it now.
BTW, does anybody elses dealership NOT carry jets and have to order the damn things when you go in. What the mother fuck? And of course I've got to bring the jets in and match them for the right size/style because every time I've ordered over the phone they get the fuckers wrong. I needed two 125 Keihin mj's and when I picked em up there was one 125 and a 98. I just looked at the guy and said "... awww you didn't even try man."
Of course it's not like I live close to the dealershit either. So I'm never just "in the neighborhoood" and decide to drop in, grab some spare jets, sit on some bikes that I'm never going to buy, and pretend to be interested in some overpriced apparel in hopes that the scantly clad, barely legal salesgirl will come over and maybe help me try on some jackets so that I can innocently brush up against her and mayber smell her hair then wait for her to say something that I can turn into a vague sexual inuendo hoping that she gets the lame attempt at humour and gives me a courtesy laugh. Which in turn will give me the false sensation that I still have game and will put a smile on my face while I head home to bang my wife, face down in a pillow, while I picture our little whore-of-a salesgirl, hello kitty panties balled up on the floor of her childhood bedroom, taking a load in the face and loving every second of it, while mom is in the next room of the trailer, with her tow truck driving boyfriend, watching American Idol.

Hi, my name is Duke. I am from Pennsylvania. I am 58 years old, sometimes feel 90, and have been riding on my own since I was 12. First ride I was 7 and went for a ride with my brother on his new 1958 FLH pan. That was it I was hooked. My brother would take me riding for hours around the countryside here in the mountains of north east Pa almost every weekend. That is when his wife would let him. My mother was not to happy about our going but she knew my brother was careful. He lived next door to my mom and dad an I thank GOD we had that time together because He died of a heart attack when he was only 42. I was just 21 at the time and at least he got to ride my first new bike I ever bought and loved it. It was a 1972 Kawasaki 750 triple. It WAS fast. Paid a 1600 dollar loan off in a month and a half street racing corvettes an other muscle cars for money.AH, the good old days.
Now a days I just like to cruise nice and slow and see everything as I go by. Sorry I wrote so much. I lurked in the shadows, pun intended, for a while and I see that I am not the only one who loves to make things for his bike. I have a 1984 shadow VT700C that I am chopping a little at a time. As soon as I figure how to post pix I will put some on.

Sup guys noob here. Hope to learn a lot here and maybe down the road help out if I can. I just picked up my bike today so not a whole lot of information on it yet. The next week will be spent checking over everything, cleaning and tightening and lubing etc.. 1987 VT1100C. From pictures I've seen of stock VT1100's this bike has a few mods done to it already. They will probably all be changed eventually though. I am gonna change both fenders, seat, remove the speedo possibly get a smaller digital later. Swap the drag bars out for 2 piece new grips, mirrors, radiator cover, pull the motor and powder coat it black. Probably rebuild it since I will have it out anyway. New paint, and powder coat the rims. So ya lots of plans for this bike. I'm a student at MMI in Phoenix so this bike is gonna be sorta like independent study for me. Kinda weird I'm taking Harley, Yamaha and BMW classes but I end up buying a Honda.

This seems rather pathetic looking at Razor's ride above, but I gotta start somewhere!!
- Removed GARS (including an extra set previous owner put on)
- Removed badges from side cover
- Removed several pieces of velcro from handlebars (I think he put his garage remote on there, there was a watch face velcro'd to another.

Just ordered some final touches to the Halo...New mirors, new grips and LED kit. If I have time this weekend I will be modifying a new street sweeper rear fender, a shorter bobber fender and a fresh coat of paint all around. Plan is to have put quick disconnects on rear markers and be able switch rear fenders out by removing 6 bolts and swapping over markers. I like options...
Also still trying to find a pin stripping scheme that I like (probably white and red, old school or tribal).
If time remains, I will attempt to hide all wires inside bars (wires, not cables...yet).

Picked up this old girl, canadian import so an '84 750. She's been standing for 4 years, but I managed to get her up and running so far.

Thought it'd be fun to play with the bars, then see what a front fairing from a Bandit looked like

Indicator bar from my black spirit (phantom - it looked fuckin' awful on that one, not so bad here!)

I figured I'd try the fairing as this bike is staying pretty standard other than what I've played about with now and I'll move the pegs forward. Oh it does have some stainless straight through pipes that sound goooood.
Still plenty to do to get her roadworth
