Went to change the filter on my '97 ace 1100, and when I took the old one out, I saw some oil in the bottom of the plastic box it sits in (under the seat). Should I be worried about this, or should I expect some oil to be there ( I assume condensed fumes from the engine...????)

Appreciate any feedback while the bike's still apart...wanna finish up my my little reno project soon! Weather's finally getting nice!

I pulled mine a couple times in the last few weeks and a little oil/gas was in there every time . I have less than a 1000 miles .

No. It is from the Positive Crankcase Vent or equilent. When the pressure in the engine is greater than the pressure outside of it , it vents from the valve cover or somewhere near the top of the head and into the intake manifold or airbox via a hose. It is perfectly normal for oil to be forced out that tube, and the oil's presence helps trap dust that may get through the filter and keep it from getting into the engine. just wipe it out once it gets excessive.

Yeah, it's just Blowby Gasses, it's perfectly normal. I wouldn't worry 'bout it.

You might find some of the blow by gases but also remember that most filters will have a light oil coating as this helps prevent dust from entering the engine.

i thought the same thing when i first got my bike-i went back to the stealer
and they told me it was normal. i've noticed less and less oil build up the more miles i put on.

There should also be a drain line that exits the airbox. This line is normally plugged and should be drained periodically (as read in your manual). This line is usually grouped with others such as the battery vent.

I use an aftermarket filter - they all have some oil on them, so that's no biggie. And like the guys say, a bit from the stock filter isn't a big deal at all. Happens all the time.
