I'm looking for the smallest, bullet type signal lights.

I have yet to find a commercially available LED signal for the 750 that comes close to the factory incandescent bulb. Plug-in 1156 and 1157 LED replacment bulbs are a joke. They may look bright at night or indoors, but in bright sunlight you will be lucky if you can see them at all. I ride with a guy with the Kuryakyn LED replacement for the break light on his HD Sportster. Almost rear-ended him the first time I had to ride behind him. I absolutly could not see his break light come on in daylight. Therefore, I make my own LED replacements that fit the stock signal and are brighter than the incandescent lamp. Why can't you find something similar commercially? Because it would costs 3 to 4 times more for the companies to use the specialized components required to do it correctly and meet SAE and DOT specs. I know of only one aftermarket LED conversion kit that is SAE and DOT approved. They cost a fortune, and are only made for a select few bikes - none of which is the 750 ACE or Spirit.
Just my $0.02.

You are so right with the LED's if you want bright and DOT, try halogen bulbs. The two big problems with LED lighting is the brightness level of the LED's themselves. No one ever lists the rating of them. Then there's the angle of view with each LED. Some are designed with a narrow line of sight or at a specific degree of angle. No one ever mentions that in their advertisements.
I love LED's and I'm going that route all the way around on mine. This site may make you custom LED's http://www.customled.com/CUSTOM_WORK/custom_work.htm

LED rating and viewing angle is exactly the problem. I use High-Flux LEDs with a 120 deg viewing angle and rated at 1.3 lumen (yes, lumen and not micro candles). I pack 24 per board. To increase the brightness, I over-drive them slightly. I have never meetered them, but they appear slightly brighter than incandescent in broad daylight. Now, if one would want to go all out and buy some Luxeon (20+ lumen and about $6 a pop) LEDs... Well now, you might be able to build yourself a little headlight with them...

I do have some free time... I'll see if I can get a couple of boards routed... Anyone know if there is a difference between the ACE and Spirit signal housings?

Don't know...I'm sure someone will chime in. Try bike bandit and see if they are the same part number.

Not the same according to BikeBandit. I used the rubber gasket to hold mine in place. I'll have to stop at the local stealer and see if I can get one for the Spirits -- Unless someone wants to donate an unused (or even damaged as long as the inner tabs are intact) signal to the cause... Hopefully they have not changed them too much over the years. I noticed the 2000 Spirit 1100 used the older 2 screw lenses. That would throw a wrench in my designs. Maybe a trip to the junk yard would be a better waste of time...
