Well I feel like shit, :furious2: no no way worse then that!!! :madani: Yesterday was the first day of the season worthy of a ride. I woke up with the sun on my face and went straight out to the garage to pull the bike out. I tried to start it but the battery was run down from having my key on to check the new lights I just installed the day before. So I grabbed the battery from my other bike to give it a boost. First time started up like a charm. As I unhooked the cables it stalled and hadn't charged enough to start up again so I rehooked the cables....
Backwards!! :stunned: Holy Fuck!! I thought I was going to die!! Anyways I blew the fuse and replaced it but it seems the battery won't hold a charge or something to that affect. The bike runs if I jump it and it appears that the alternater works as the lights brighten as I give it throttle but the oddemeter keeps flickering on and off and like I said the battery doesn't seem to hold a charge. I am having the battery charged and checked and I hope that is it as I know the alternater is fucken pricey. Anyways for those of you who have made it this far thanks for sticken with me if for nothing else then a good laugh  but if you do have any ideas I would greatly appreciate them too.!! :help:

Thanks

Hiya mitchbelcourt,

You're gonna have rule out any battery problems b4 you troubleshoot anything else such as an electronic device. Have the battery checked by a pro and update your post with the results.

Get the battery issue fixed before anything else. Usually, if you blow up the fuse due to improper jumper cable installation the battery should not suffer all that much but you'll never know...

From my experience with batteries, yours was probably not going to hold a charge anyway. Don't pay stealer price for replacement he wants $170 - $200. Advanced Auto parts carries one of equal size for $60 or so. Putting your batteries in series like that increased the voltage of your system. Since your first battery was of low voltage it acted as a resistor in the circuit, and probably damaged atleast on cell of what was the better. Bad news you are probably buying two batteries. Good news is if as you state the bike runs, but with a flickering light and digital display, no major damage was done, if you can keep it running for about 10 - 15 minutes you will know the higher voltage didn't cause a "soft" failure in the ignition module, for sure the priciest part you could have damaged. The flashing display is common when system voltage is bellow 10 volts, don't worry to much about this, it will probably be fine once you get a new battery in it. :wink_2: Also the brightening headlamp is actual a good sign as it is a good indication that the voltage regulator and rectifier are working; however put a new or fully charged battery in it a.s.a.p. They will fail on you if you run the bike because of the load put on it/them by the ignition circuit, the days of low voltage point systems are long gone. :karate:

Well Good news!! I had the battery charged and checked and it seems alright. I put it back in the bike and have run it for quite a while today, all seems good. Thanks to all who gave input!

I noticed if you have a dead battery and pop start the bike the odometer will flash until it gets a good charge on the battery.
