Another cool new product. I've never liked spray cans because they lack the hardeners we have to mix with clears, etc. Looks like Alsa corp has came out with a special spray can that has the hardener in the can. The hardener just has to be activated....

I did my tank last summer and it took one can of sealer primer and two cans for the final coat of gloss black. It's O.K. for a temporary job until you get it done by a pro but it definitely does not compare to the real thing. Hey Razor whats the coin for a radical paint job like that? Looks totally wild!!!

THEY HAD A BASE COLOR DOWN THEN POURED THE CRYSTALL FX ON IT AND LET IT DRY. IF YOU INDUCE DRYING THE CRYSALS COME OUT SMALL , IF YOU LET AIR DRY
THE CRYSTAL EFFECT COMES OUT MORE.WIPE DRY AND CLAER COAT..
I THINK- BUT I'M NO EXPERT PAINTER...

You squirt it over your existing or new base, allow it try dry either by forced air or naturally, then spray another base over it, usually black.

Then you wash the FX off with a rag and water.

Then clear....

Very nice. Has anyone used it yet? How does it compare to taking it to a paint shop?

I used it once in a local training class. It was pretty easy....

No one around here wants to pay the money to have something like this done....

Everyone wants one color paint jobs or flames.....

How much would you charge for a paint job like this? Front and rear fender, tank and side covers on an ACE.

A friend of mine here in kentucky we call him Easy (Rider) is very good with paint.
He can use pictures out of a magizine and somehow adhere it to a fender or gas tank. Then clear over it. He is very secretive about the process but the end results are awesome.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Tutorial please....

If I wouldn't have to fill any dents, seams, etc, $1400. That would include stripping to bare metal and brining it up from there.

WHAT MATERIALS WOULD YOU NEED... SAY IF I WANTED IT IN PURPLE.

WHAT MATERIALS WOULD YOU NEED... SAY IF I WANTED IT IN PURPLE.

I'd use a pearlized purple base, Crystal FX, Black base and then clear.....

Another way would be to use a pearl silver base, Crystal FX, Black base, then a purple candy, then clear..... That would ghost the FX.

If you are looking for a material list to go from the bare metal to final clear, let me know and I'll PM it to ya....

Question For Airbrush.

I Am Stripping Down The Bike Very Soon, And Going To Have All The Tins Painted. I Was Going To Try To Do This Myself ( And Still Might ). The Paint Scheme I Am Leaning Towards Is This. I Just Don't Know What To Do First. Can You Help?

Candy Purple Tribal Type Flames, With Candy Green Pinstripe Outlining Them.
I Want To Put This Over A Candy Orange Backround.

1st. What Colors Do I Use For The Base Coat.

2nd. I Was Thinking Perhaps Laying Down The Purple First. Taping It Off Then Laying Down The Orange. Is This Right? WILL THE PURPLE CHANGE THE ORANGE IN ANY WAY?

3rd. How Many Coats Of Paint Do I Use, And Do I Wet Sand Between Each Coat? Also, Do I Wet Sand Between Each Clear Coat.

4th. What Brand Of Paint Do You Reccom. I Was Think House Of Kolor.

Thanks For The Help.

Dirtwarrior, I have used Grumbacher 's artists materials , HYPLAR gloss medium & varnish . You cover pictures from a mag. in thin layers .Let dry between coats .Seems thicker material in end works better . Once dry put in Warm water . Like when a kid ,for model decals. Rub off back/paper . Let dry. Then stick to any thing, like decal. I NEVER painted/clear over this stuff .I do not know how it would react to clear. They may have some newer stuff by now. I use to do this 500years ago in high school.

Thanks I think I will try this but first on something else besides my bike :)
If it works well I then will do it for real.
Maybe others will do it too.
Thanks because I always wondered how to do it.

Place your practice piece in the sun for a while. It would be interesting to see if it holds it's color....

Question For Airbrush.

My answers are in red

I Am Stripping Down The Bike Very Soon, And Going To Have All The Tins Painted. I Was Going To Try To Do This Myself ( And Still Might ). The Paint Scheme I Am Leaning Towards Is This. I Just Don't Know What To Do First. Can You Help?

Candy Purple Tribal Type Flames, With Candy Green Pinstripe Outlining Them.
I Want To Put This Over A Candy Orange Backround.

1st. What Colors Do I Use For The Base Coat. I'd use a pearl purple for a base coat. Use a white primer under it too make it stand out more. Shooting over a black primer will tone it down some...

2nd. I Was Thinking Perhaps Laying Down The Purple First. Taping It Off Then Laying Down The Orange. Is This Right? WILL THE PURPLE CHANGE THE ORANGE IN ANY WAY? That would be the way to go. And yes, since orange is typically lighter than orange, the orange will appear darker when sprayed over the purple. Of course you could spray the orange first then the purple. Always spray a test panel first. I use aluminum sign blanks....

3rd. How Many Coats Of Paint Do I Use, usually 2-3 coats will give you full coverage. And Do I Wet Sand Between Each Coat Only if you exceed the recoating window, or if you get any orange peel or runs. Also, Do I Wet Sand Between Each Clear Coat. No, you will typically spray 3-4 coats of clear with 5 to 15 minutes between coat (Depending on the clear your using), wait till it cures, wet sand, spray 2-3 coats, wait till it cures, wetsand then buff.

4th. What Brand Of Paint Do You Reccom. I Was Think House Of Kolor. HOK is great stuff. I use PPG and HOK. ALSA, SEM, Dupont, BASF all make great Uros as well. However, any candies are extremely fustrating to spray for the first time. Stick to pearl bases to start.

Thanks For The Help.

Anytime...

Here's a great book on custom painting motorcycles.

http://www.crazyhorsepainting.com/merchandise.shtml

She does a great job covering prep work, clearing, polishing, etc.

You will still need to refer to the paint manufacturers info for flash times, cure times, recoat windows, etc.
