Does anyone know what this is? My mom says it is something her uncle John got from the military, that's all she knows. Engraved near the top is POST and near the bottom is 1500. It has a stake that looks like it can be driven into the ground.
Thanks,
Kevin

I would say it's some sort of grave marker. Did your uncle belong to any civic organizations? (Kiwanis, Masons, etc.) I don't know if it's a military marker. There's no unit insignias or anything. The "post 1500" has me thinking maybe VFW or something.

I can't say what organizations he was in, I never met the man.. He lived in Missouri, we are in Michigan, I remember the family driving down when I was about 5 or 6 to get all of his crap when he died. If it can't be identified, it'll probably always hang in the garage, and I'll probably ask someone about it a few years from now, like I have in the past...

I think near St. Louis, isn't there a huge Zoo there? I remember going there, that's about it...

Try swinging by an American Legion post or VFW. I did a quick search of Missouri and Illinois and there is no post 1500 listed. But it may have been disbanded. But I'm willing to bet that it's affiliated with one or the other

It's the symbol of the Catholic War Veterans... http://www.cwv.org/
It's most likely either a funerary marker or what we would now eefer to as a "yard stake".
I can't find anything about Post 1500, but you can probably contact them throught he link on their site and ask them about it. They can probably even tell you what the artifact is.

My grandpa went to a catholic church too, I never liked going,
Like Larry the cable guy, "up down up down take a shot.." Not one for wine or beer! Yuck
