Hey guys, I'm doing some minor changes to my bike, basically just to touch up the details and putting new paint. Here's what hv been done:

- Removed tank speedo and install the stock one next to front cylinder. I would like to have a cleaner look.

- Move gas cap back to the centre and install Kuryakyn flush mount cap. Previously I wanted to use pop up gas cap, but one problem I have here in Indonesia is we don't fill up gas our self, so most of the time the guy at gas station will hit my filler neck with his nozzle, or spill some gas all over my paint. Not good at all.

- Smothen joint between gas tank and rear fender, also will be making new seat to match. (see before & after picture). This in minor details, but a bit annoying everytime I look at it, so decided to make it neater.

- New paint, dark Candy Red flames with black base coat (in progress). Plain black is fast enough, but flames will make it even faster hehe.

Oh yes, here's how it looks like before.

I'm gonna have to shorten my throttle clables (Barnett's stainless steel braided), has anybody ever done this before? Would like to know how can remove the matal cap that's covering the s/s braided end.

Here's the flames in progress. The red will be much darker, this is just the first coat. The idea is to have it a bit subtle and it will be very noticeable when light hit the surface.

Not even close to yours Glenn, thanks. I've not been riding for a month so and i'ts killing me! Hopefully next week everything will be finished including handlebar and seat.

The flames are done, now ready for outline stripping and clear coat. Tonight will post some pictures of it.

Btw, I want to install an analog tach on on my bar. Do you know how may wiring tipes are available out there? Not sure with Spirit, the VLX has 2 plugs firing per cylinder. Can I use tach for cars?

This is the flames color, ready for outlining. I love the color, it shines only when facing lightsource.

I can't say it enough, your bike just keeps getting better. Very nice work Herbert! I love the paint, has a real rich, deep look to it. It's got to look even better in person.
How's things BTW, any word on moving or work prospects?

Thanks Glenn, I'm glad the paint turn out good. The old paint use too much putty for shaping so it cracked and chipped like crazy everywhere. It was not gas proof either.
The second paint job was done by the best custom paint shop I can find here. It took 4 weeks to get it done, a bit long but it's because they do it properly to get a perfect result. The nice thing about this shop is, they hv a bunch of professional workers at all different stage who really understand about doing the best work. They are easy to talk with so I can follow every step closely, frm scraping & re-shaping, base paint, choosing flames pattern, layout & color, airbrushing, clear coating, then polishing. They are happy to see how they work turn out good, unlike the first workshop/builder who only do it for $$ without care to the work and customer. I really learn a lot frm this guys, never seen such a solid team. Hope I can apply it to my office as well.

About moving we can't do it this year because we are expecting our second child this coming January
It could be mid next year or maybe not moving at all...we'll hv to see how things goes. There are some external factor that we can't control, but of course we are still striving hard to get there. Funny thing is now I hv more clients and jobs coming in, making it more confusing :rolleyes3
I will just hv fun and enjoy my life here while available, especially the bike!

Congrats on expecting another baby. Things have a way of working themselves out. Maybe even a New Years baby? Hope things work out for you work wise, whatever you end up doing. With any luck the earth will cooperate too and settle down in your area. Enough disasters in the past.

Looks awesome Herbert! But that license plate has to go :rolleyes3 . The seat ties in well with the smoothing and blending you did earlier this year.
One of my favorite bikes keeps getting better, great work!

Traffic police here are nasty, without the front plate they can impound my bike. $$$ can solve it at the roadside, but better safe than sorry. I've tried folding that huge plate to make it smaller but still look like shit haha. Thanks a lot Glenn really appreciate it.

Thanks man, it was a slow progress to get here, taking a lot of my time to refine it. Think I really hv to stop doing anything to this bike

What are you using for a rear rim? I've been wanting to switch from spoked to solid and haven't seen any VLX's with it done.

Hi there,

I bought the rim from Singapore, It comes with stock bike over there, Steed (aka VLX) 400cc. A lot of other VLXer asking for it, too bad I don't think it's available in the US.

Hey Corps, thanks man. I haven't checked your bike again in the past 10 months, don't tell me the beast you posted is yours!!!

My first bike was a VLX and I must say yours is badass man! I just happened to bump into this thread and was thrilled to see you live in Jakarta. My father is from Jakarta and still lives there and I actually lived there for 6 months in 2006. I sold my VLX in Texas and used the money from it to live off of in Jakarta. I longed for a big bike over there, I was driving a Mio. So when I moved back to the states I bought my C2. I'm actually moving back over to Indonesia, Bali this time, to start a business and will eventually build a chopper there.

My question is what shop do you use that you are happy with? The guys that did that amazing deep red paint job. I lived in Indo for a year and a half so I know that a good work ethic and quality can sometimes be hard to find.

BTW, what work do you do in JKT?

Thanks man and if you are still in JKT next summer I'll drop you a line. Gotta check out that bike of yours!
