SOCIAL SECURITY:
(This is worth reading. It is short and to the point.)
Perhaps we are asking the wrong questions during election years.
Our Senators and Congresswomen do not pay into Social Security and, of course, they do not collect from it.
You see, Social Security benefits were not suitable forpersons of their rare elevation in society .They felt they should have a special plan for themselves. ! So, many years ago they voted in their ownbenefit plan.
In more recent years, no congressperson has felt the need to change it. After all, it is a great plan.
For all practical purposes their plan works like this:
When they retire, they continue to draw the same pay until they die.
Except it may increase from time to time for cost of living adjustments..
For example, Senator Byrd and Congressman White and their wives may expect to draw $7,800,000.00 (that's Seven Million, Eight-Hundred Thousand Dollars), with their wives drawing $275, 000.00 during the last years of their lives.
This is calculated on an average life span for each of those two Dignitaries.
Younger Dignitaries who retire at an early age, will receive much more during the rest of their lives.
Their cost for this excellent plan is$0.00 . NADA....ZILCH....
This little perk they voted for themselves is free to them. You and I pick up the tab for this plan The funds for this fine retirement plan come directly from the General Funds;
OUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK
From our own Social Security Plan, which you and I pay (or have paid) into, every payday until we retire (which amount is matched by our employer)- we can expect to get an average of$1,000 per month after retirement.
Or, in other words, we would have to collect our average of $1,000 monthly benefits for 68 years and one (1) month to equal Senator! Bill Bradley's benefits!
Social Security could be very good if only one small change were made.
That change would be to:
Jerk the Golden Fleece Retirement Plan from under the Senators and Congressmen. Put them into the Social Security plan with the rest of us
then sit back.....
and see how fast they would fix it.
If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe good changes will evolve.

Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news but.....
Our Senators and Representatives have been paying Social Security since 1984 they have paid into the fund just as most everyone else does. (A few odd exceptions to the Social Security program still exist, both inside and outside of government, but not for members of Congress.)
It was true prior to 1984 that Congressmen did not pay into the Social Security fund because they participated in a separate program for civil servants (the Civil Service Retirement System, or CSRS), but that program was closed to government employees hired after 1983: In 1983, Public Law 98-21 required Social Security coverage for federal civilian employees first hired after 1983 and closed the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) to new federal employees and Members of Congress. All incumbent Members of Congress were required to be covered by Social Security, regardless of when they entered Congress. Members who had participated in CSRS before 1984 could elect to stay in that plan in addition to being covered by Social Security or elect coverage under an 'offset plan' that integrates CSRS and Social Security. Under the CSRS Offset Plan, an individual's contributions to CSRS and their pension benefits from that plan are reduced ('offset') by the amount of their contributions to, and benefits from, Social Security.
It is not true that Congressmen "continue to draw their same pay, until they die." The size of their pensions is determined by a number of factors (primarily length of service, but also factors such as when they joined Congress, their age at retirement, their salary, and the pension options they chose when they enrolled in the retirement system) and by law cannot exceed 80% of their salary at the time of their retirement.
It is not true that Congressmen "paid nothing in on any kind of retirement," and that their pension money "comes right out of the General Fund." Whether members of Congress participate in the older Civil Service Retirement System or the newer Federal Employees' Retirement System (FERS), their pensions are funded through a combination of general tax provisions and contributions from the participants. Right now, members of Congress in the FERS plan must pay 1.3% of their salary to FERS and 6.2% in Social Security taxes.

you must be a republican.
the fact of the matter is that any of our " civil servants" when they leave office they are richer then when they entered office. with all the side ( backdoor deals ) they make they are set for life. most of all, republicans are only for big business, and not the common man like you and me. well me, if you are talking the way you are you must be well off like our civil leaders. to let you know, 80% of thier pay is alot. i won't be drawing 80%, will you and any of the rest of these guys?

I would call Tiny an uncommon man. And I would like to thank him for calming me down a little. That first post made me want to be a senator. But thanks to Tiny, It seems like to much work to get the retirement system. I have two friends running for congress. I will ask them for clarifacation. I had a second great uncle that was a senator for Minnisota. If I knew him better, I would ask him.

To me there are bigger issues at hand than how much politicians get for retirement. Oil, internet control, and big business are my issues. I guess the first two tie into the third...
All the rest of this crap (retirement benefits, NSA wiretaps, and illegal prisons) are just to make you look at other things instead of what is important. The retirement befits are the same we get (proportional to what we make). The NSA isn't listening to you and really doesn't care. And the "illegal" prisons are not new in a time of war. Truely, I believe we should worry about ourselves before we worry about a bunch of people that hate us and would kill us if given a chance (something they are taught at a VERY young age).
Why isn't anyone wondering how gas prices can soar citing low production and low supplies, but the gas is always at the pump and oil companies are posting their highest profits EVER?!?! Or how the internet is about to be ripped in half as opposing companies take over the infastructure and want to charge companies premium fees for higher priority assess to your house? Or how Microsoft is still the most important company for computers and can charge more and more for each operating system they sell, but if anyone else has a monopoly they are controlled? Why is our President spending over half his term in office in a place in Texas where no one watches who comes and goes?
Or the biggest kicker in my book, when immigrants protest immigration laws while waving their old countries' flag? In any other country, it would be concidered treason. You would be drug out into the street and killed, but here we have to "tolerate" them...:madani:

Hey miclash1 - it has nothing to do with what party anyone belongs to.... I dont disagree with what your saying above, but I am saying that if your gonna argue about something - better get all the facts straight, or your oponent is gonna make you look foolish. Also that 80% is only after your have been serving as a Senator or Representative for xx years. It was the Democratic controlled congress that installed that pension program many years ago, and both DEMOCRATS and REPUBLICANS benefit.
Dont be so quick to label political parties. What they tell you in campaigns and on TV is not how they REALLY act behind closed doors. There are some good republicans and democrats, but most of both have one agenda, and that is tell you what you want to hear so they can get in office and do what they want to do (which is often the opposite of what you think they are doing).

MY President !! Sorry, I didnt realize you dont live in the US. :grin3:
The oil issue is also a 2 headed snake. Lets walk through it. Read between the lines as we do.
1) With China and India emerging as industrial nations, their demand for oil has grown 10x than what it was back in the 80's.
2) The surplus of oil that used to be a cushion for keeping prices stabilized evaporated with the growing demands of both those countries. We still have plenty of gas and no shortages. Just the surplus oil has diminished.
3) All this BS in the mideast has the Market nervous.
Ok, take those 3 things. The guys biding on wall street for future oil, think (a) the surplus is down, (b) if the mideast blows up, oil will be cut off. With those 2 points, the speculators go into panic and start biding higher and higher prices for oil. Oil goes from the mid $20 a barrel to $70 a barrel and higher.
This panic is strictly bullshit. There is no reason for it. They are pumping up the gas prices based on what if modelling. Of course the refineries could care less, since they are also the ones that do the drilling and pumping- even in the Mideast.
4) Pirce of gas dramatically raises because: 1) Price of Oil (Main factor), Special formulas required by a number of States requiring special polution controls (Minor Factor) and down right GREED another MAJOR Factor. They are pumping the oil, getting paid handsomely for that, then shipping it back to the states for refining and get paid handsomely for that as well.
Bush is not to blame for the price of oil. Remember that we still pay 1/2 or less for the price of gas than the rest of the world. You and I cringe at $3.00 a gallon, but the Europe is paying $5 or 6 dollars a gallon and in some places more. Bush has little control over this, no matter how much you may think he does.
But where I think he does have a lot of control, is the price of GAS in the US and the huge profits the oil companies are making in the US. I place blame on his administration for that, and that IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT TOPIC......

thats what i am saying. he can control what the profits are. back in the 70's, at least here in new york they made it so utilites companies were only able to make 14% on a dollar. thats what they should do with these oil companies. i don't know about you but i will take a 14% return on my moneyany day. these oil companies are to big. they are the ones that are backing these politicians, and wind up putting them on thier board of electors when they leave office. or better yet give them the ceo positions. it's a never ending cycle. it will never change. this is why we will not see any change in gas prices, or see any clean up in chemical, and power plants. it's hush money.

McBane is a poor choice. And it does'nt matter who you vote for. It did not matter in the last 2 fake elections. I am not saying don't vote. I just saying it did not matter the last 2 times. Perhaps the Republicans might act like real Americans and hold a real vote. I dought it. But it could happen. I might learn to use spellcheck. It could happen.:heh_heh: There is no easy answer about the middle east. We can not just leave. When we decided to go, we decided to stay until they forget 1000's of years of hatred. There is no quick fix. And to pull out will only destablize a potential nuculear jihad. Not to mention the effects on global economy. The USA could turn into a 3rd world nation in the next 20 years, without oil. Industry as we know it would halt to a stop. China or another economic superpower would snatch up what we used to have. This is an economic war for our very livley hoods. Because we have an oil based economy. Until our energy policys shift focus and direction, that is a fact we can not ignor. Planes won't fly and trucks won't run. We will all have to walk to work and pay for cars that just sit there. If you even still have a job. Citys will have to cart food in for millions, by horse. sin i agree with some of the stuff you said. what i dont agree with, is the we will turn into a 3rd world country. we have so much oil in this country, the tree huggers ( democrats regretably) won't let them drill. alaska has so much oil it pathetic. there is alot of oil in new orleans, texas. thats just to name a few. as far as the mid east. there is one way the whole iraq thing can be solved. i know i am going to get a huge lashing when i say this, but put saddam back into power. when he was in power every in the mid -east was affraid of him and the knew thier place. there was never civil wars, suicide bombings. now iran is looking to take them over. irag was not why 9-11 happened. we need to concentrate on that. iraq was never a threat. north korea, and iran is the threat, but for some reason we won't go after them. the only reason why bush went into iraq, is to get revenge for the attempt on his father. i dont care what comes out of his mouth, thats the truth and he knows it. our focus is in the wrong direction, we need to look at north korea right now. they have nuclear capbility, and always have. iraq is just a flea on a dogs ass. we could have taken them out anytime. please elect me for your next president, i'll have this fixed in 6 months.....

Excellent points!
And unfortunately very true.
This mideast crises is a quagmire. We cant just pull out, but nothing will be resolved by staying there. We are stuck unless some hard non-secular dictator can take control of the Country. Then your back to where you started in the beginning.
Bottom line is we are dependent on oil, and technology is not there yet to find anything that can replace oil. We are trying but we are still decades away from reaching it.

sin i agree with some of the stuff you said. what i dont agree with, is the we will turn into a 3rd world country. we have so much oil in this country, the tree huggers ( democrats regretably) won't let them drill. alaska has so much oil it pathetic. there is alot of oil in new orleans, texas. thats just to name a few. as far as the mid east. there is one way the whole iraq thing can be solved. i know i am going to get a huge lashing when i say this, but put saddam back into power. when he was in power every in the mid -east was affraid of him and the knew thier place. there was never civil wars, suicide bombings. now iran is looking to take them over. irag was not why 9-11 happened. we need to concentrate on that. iraq was never a threat. north korea, and iran is the threat, but for some reason we won't go after them. the only reason why bush went into iraq, is to get revenge for the attempt on his father. i dont care what comes out of his mouth, thats the truth and he knows it. our focus is in the wrong direction, we need to look at north korea right now. they have nuclear capbility, and always have. iraq is just a flea on a dogs ass. we could have taken them out anytime. please elect me for your next president, i'll have this fixed in 6 months..... We think we have more oil there! Until it is drilled and put into barrels and refined, I would not count on it. Americas' economic security is tied to the middle east. If Iraq were pacified and became a strong military base of operations, with it's oil reserves. We would secure our economic future from uncertianty. The problem is Iraq's still live there. Saddam had to deal with less problems from other terror groups becuase he was willing to take it as far as it needed to go and a few more steps just for his own personal joy. We are trying to kick sombodys ass and make friends with them at the same time. That is why it is such a slow go. We are not trying to piss of an innocent old woman. But when we kill her militant son or husband and leave a void in her life. She will probibly end up hating us. The bad guys and the good guys sleep in the same houses. And by killing some badguys we turn good poeple agianst us. Saddam was willing to kill everybody! If we put him back in power, we to are guilty of the same.

now i disagree with that
a fine mess "WE got ourselves into " i didn't do anything. ...
I got it on GOOD SOURCE (Pegs, Jrod, and Razor) that YOU ARE THE MAIN CULPRIT !! I say OFF WITH YUOR :behead: !
I agree on the Stem Cell fiasco. That was purely political. I dont think Gore is a good choice though. He sways with the wind way toooo much, . The DEMS need someone who is consistent, gets his agenda across, and is not too far left, and someone with a good personality - like Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan (yes I know he was republican, but he had the personality that people liked) .
That has been the Democratic downfall IMO. They have choosen candidates that are considered far left, and the vast majority of people do not like anyone who is too far left or right. Bill Clinton was successful because he was not too radical. Otherwise the voters get scared. :stunned:

i think reagan was a great president. if bush was more like him i think he would be more well liked. i guess what i dislike most, is that he is so arrogant. you know, he has small man cyndrome. like he has something to prove. that was joh kerry who was fli-flop gore on the other hand i think will work. obviously he would cuz he actually won the election. bush bought it back somehow. his brother is the gov of florida. you must say there is a conflict of interest there..

OK enough i cant take any more of this crap. bush is our man in charge!!! most of you dont know this but he has our best intrests at heart!! did you know that he is putting into place a plan that will create jobs, end hunger, end homelessness and lower crime??? the plan is call F.H.H. it stands for feed the homeless to the hungry. first it will create jobs for people to round up homeless people and bring them to processing plants. the people will be sorted by color and processed into food for hungry people and maybe some byproducts can be used for energy sources. then more jobs will be made to hand out the food to hungry people. and with less poor homeless people around there will be less crime. see, bush is taking care of us and i dont ever want to see a negitive post again.

you know, the homeless is a heated topic here in Las Vegas, they just passed a law @ 3-4 weeks ago, making it illegal to hand a homeless person a bottle of water or a sandwich!!,a A FUCKING SANDWICH!, they will arrest you and throw your ass in jail!GIVING THEM A SANDWICH, OVER HELPING SOMEONE!! WTF!!! next thing you know, you will be arrested for kissing your loved one in public!! yet another reason i feel we should round up all political people and send them to a deserted island:knife:
