When I bought my bike it already had aftermarket pipes on it, but after burning holes in 3 pairs of jeans I decided I'd better do something before the trip to sturgis. Now that the wraps are broken in (browned) I think it looks pretty cool, not to mention my jeans don't have any new holes.

Those look like Cobra drag pipes. I burned holes in several pairs of jeans when I had them on my bike. I like the wrap. It looks good.

I've got Cobra drags, but have never burned my pants... I have felt some major heat though...

Three co-workers of mine have singed their fingers, after starting my bike and running for a minute or so they all did the same thing, "ah, they can't get that hot" and proceed to touch them before I can so "no". They all think I have "hot" pipes too.

I have been thinking about making me a set of custom pipes this winter and wanted to wrap them, where can I get some at? Note- I found a whole bunch of this shit on ebay. One more thing though, how do you attach it so that it stays at the beginning of the wrap and at the end? Thanks!

Just about any auto parts store "should" have it, although 5 stores I went into said they didn't have any and they could order it for me. I went to a racing shop and they had a ton of it. You buy special "metal" zip ties to keep the beginning and end in place. One auto roll should do both of your pipes.
Funny side note, the army OCC bike at Sturgis had the same wrap and ties that I used! (at least it looked exactly the same)

I read on another forum that it is bad. They said it holds in moisture causing rust and holds in excess heat causing heat related failures. I know it is designed to hold in heat but was just wondering if anyone has ever had any problems after awhile of use?

I have felt mine hot on the side of my pant leg before but nothing like putting any holes or burn marks in them. http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/ruinkai/sh1a.gif

That would make some sense, but I think you are supposed to wrap them while the tape is wet, so it can stretch a bit, then if you get in the rain they won't loosen up. I would think that the heat of starting the bike and running it would dissapate the water and if the pipes have a good coating it shouldn't hurt much...
Damn Purp, you should try that on your new quad and let us know! Hit any mud holes yet?

i too have cobra drags, and feel alot of heat, but no pant burns. i agree with misspiritrider, i saw a tv show ( biker buildoff ) and the guys were wrapping the pipes when the shit was wet. he said you have to wet and wrap real tight, keeping it tight while covering the whole pipe, because when it dries it shrinks alot. he also used hose claps on both end to hold them in place. it gives it a cool look, but i dig the chrome look. unless it is on a bobber...
