.. 02 750 shadow spirit. found the ground wire for the regulator / rectifier fried. I've replaced clip plug for the ground / hot connecton with posi-lock's. Checked the charging sytem out per the service manual and all seems ok. Bikes running fine. checked the pluges after a couple miles. The new one's were warm and the other ( 3 yellow wire plug ) was hot. Any ideas if this is noraml. All grounds etc. are fine.
I've got aux lights, a battery tender hookup and a hookup for heated gloves. Nothing elese was running . Battery is chared to 13.2 or so and with the high beam on at about 5000 rpm charges at 14.5 or so..

Was the only problem the burned wire?

Also was the wire you used to replace the bad one the same wire gauge?

I just spent a couple hundred on a new stator and rectifier for C@Woman's Virago.
That started with a burnt ground wire too. Then the stator ended up fryin' the rectifier, right before it fried itself out.
Keep in mind her bike is a Yamer, but charging systems are about the same on all bikes.
I'd get it checked out by a pro...the thing is, you can't always tell when these things will go.
Your problem just sounded a little too familliar.
I know, it's not very helpful, but I thought I'd share what happend.

.. the problem wasn't so much the wire as the plastic clip. It was melted from too much heat. I didn't replce the wire at all. simply cut the plug off, stripped it back about 3/8" and cleaned the wires. then used the new connectors
The blad connectors of the ground plug were just fried. Wasnt the whole harness or anything so I was lucky .. bikes 3yrs old with 29500 on it from when I bought it new.
No other wires were damaged. It was running rough when I stopped to gas and didnt' want to start. I was about a mile from home so i bumped it over to get here.
Like I said the yellow wired plug was warm. Could be due to the type of plastic it is. I don't want to replace it unless I have to. I just dont' know how much heat is generated in that area.. thanks

thanks m@man .. it appears to have checked out ok with a multimeter. I will however keep a good eye on it.

Many have just removed the connector from the circuit and soldered the wires together.
How often do you need the convienence of a quick disconnect right there anyway?

Sounds like a question for the electro-man - Professor Fegs.
