Riding home last night...... saw it on the side of the road and I hit the brakes HARD! Of course it waited until I was almost there and ran in front of me! Missed it by about 20 feet! Almost shit my pants! Had a feeling there were deer around.

That's a scary situation. I know what your saying. I didn't have a deer but a St. Benard dog (Which is just as bad) come out in front of me 2 yars ago. I wasn't so lucky tough. I hit it.....
They say if you ride it's not if you wreck, It's when you wreck.... I hope one in a life time is all I have....

Glad to hear you made it through OK. By the way, I think it would be easier from a motorcycle. It's alot smoother than a horse!

I hit one (a deer, not a steak) two years ago and went down - luckily it was only a little doe. It sucked, but I count my lucky stars that I walked away with only some missing flesh.
The cop asked me "do you want to keep it?". Looking at my trashed bike and lack of skin I said no - I didn't have any way to get it home. But now I kick myself for not mounting its little doe head on my wall.

Not when you are chasing them through the field or woods!

I see them all the time on the way home from work. I work second shift.
I worry more about deer and road kill than other drivers.
It's the ones that you dont see that will get you.
Watch out for late fall during rutt, that's when i got one with my truck.
I look for glowing eyes with my other eye!
