I just bought an 04 spirit 1100. I have been looking at Vance/Hines pipes and Hard Krome pipes. Any suggestions? Does anyone know if the holesaw trick works on the 1100.

I did the hole saw mod on my bike last fall and for the money spent, its not bad. ALOT better than stock. What makes it sound even better is to drill some hole thru the perferated plate into the next solid plate to the next chamber. Makes it much deeper tone without making it that much louder after removing the resonator. Just remember, a dual pin will never sound like a single pin motor.

Just my opinion.

I've checked that site out. I saved the sound bytes to my computer. My 3 year old nephew loves it! :luxhello:

Shadow110Guy - I went to the site and checked out the pipes. They sound pretty cool. I am still on the fence about slips ons. Thanks for the help

Most that chop the stock pipes eventually buy aftermarket. Do yourself a favor. If you are determined to experiment with the stock set get a used set. If no likey - slap'em back on.

Thanks man, I have decided to go with DG Hard Krome Classics, K&N filter and rejet to start with. I will let you know how it all turns out.

I think you are going to really like the H&K's and with the K&N air filter and rejet you will see more power from your bike and the sound from stock to those will be awesome. My wife has that exact same set up and her bike (Vstar classis) and she gained power and boy does it sound good and they are loud! Keep my posted to how it all comes out and what the final price came to?

Can't go wrong with the VH ProPipes - rock solid, deep rumble and nice torque boost.

I'd get the V+H myself. Then again, as a dealer, I'm biased. I'll get you hooked up on a set if you need em cheap.

i know that this thread is ancient... but i don't care i want to revive the 1100 forum. anyway, my bike already had a jet kit and cobra slash cuts... and i gotta say is sounds sick! runs great, only thing is the sound itself makes me a little more throttle happy especially around concrete guard rails and tunnels... i know i'm just a big kid with a loud toy, but dammit, its mine i'll play with it if i want to.

I had some slipons on my 95, 1100 SS. They sounded like Sh**. Got some new Cobra Slash cut pipes off Ebay for 225. There is a place liquidating stock of new pipes, sound a whole lot better than slip ons or the hole saw mod. You might try there.

If you like to play around when riding the VT1100 then you know you can make this bike Backfire on command?

Cruising in 4th or 5th gear at any speed above 35mph and when you have spotted a target simply keep your speed up and about 50 feet before your victim turn the handle bar kill switch to the off position and coast to your kill, then when your right behind them turn the kill switch back on and BOOM!

I do it all the time, kids will be walking down the sidewalk and BOOM, tunnels and going under over passes BOOM!

Most of the time the target will jump two feet in the air...

One time I was in a section of the hood and there was a group of young non white men assembled on a corner most likley up to no good and I backfired right up next to them and the whole group jumped then rolled on the ground thinking they have been shot at on a drive by.

Bike riders are my fav target to hit, you know the ones in their skin tight bike shorts and shirt usually riding in packs and they always hog the road, well my riding group will hit them 3 or 4 times as we pass them.

Most of the time they will squirt their water bottles at us and flip us off, but one time we had a group catch up with us at a gas station and they were none too happy.

They bitched at us a little as they left and asked us not to do it again because it scared them...and yes we hit them again down the road :happy2:

I have been doing this for years and IMHO a lot of fun!

FYI it won't work with the newer fuel injected bikes.

Now do I pull the clutch in while it's off or not?

Now do I pull the clutch in while it's off or not?

Don't pull the clutch in, you want the motor to pump raw fuel into the pipes. Add spark and BOOM.
Used to do that back in high school.
Just don't get carried away. I held the ignition off in my dads car for too long and when I gave it spark the accumulated fuel blew apart the rear muffler and dented the trunk floor.
Good lick explaining your way out of that one.
