If your one of many who suffer from wrist of hand pain when riding long trips, then try out these gloves:

http://www.shocktek.com/index2.html (http://www.shocktek.com/index2.html)

They are specially designed to prevent or reduce carpal tunnel syndrome. They actually have gloves for all types of industry as well as sports and cycling.

Our Workman's Comp carrier recommends some of our employees use this glove because the product is considered one of the best for this problem. I went to their site and discovered they have a line of Motorcycle Gloves as well.

The full Kevlar Glove is pricey, but the half finger gloves are reasonable.

Great find Don. My hands go numb after a few miles. That's why I had to get the cruise control, so I could get my hands off of the grips every few miles.

Thanks

Have you guys bought any of these? Do they work?? I'm going to have to do something, my left elbow has been killing me when I ride.

I don't know if they will fix your elbow problem or not. As a matter of fact I have the exact same problem and its my left elbow as well. If you find anything that works on that elbow, let me know.

I can tell you that these gloves are recommended and approved by OSHA as well as all the leading Workers Compensation Insurance Companies. Since their MC line is made exactly the same as their industrial line, I would imagine they work. I have a pair ordered, but it has not arrived yet.

Well, if I ride with my left hand off the grip, it doesn't hurt, but it does make shifting a bit of a challenge.

It only seems to hurt when we're riding at a steady speed like on an interstate. If I'm in twisties, in town, moving around, I don't notice it as much.

If it relieved a little bit of the pain, I'd be happy. I might have to order me a pair to try them...it's not like I don't already have about 5 pairs of gloves. :laugh4:

Same here. It really kicks in hard though when we do parades where we do a lot of figure 8's etc. By the end of the parade I can barely bend my elbow the pain is so intense. On highways, I notice it acts up on straight long rides. We dont have very many twisties around us, so most rides are straight. Though there is always pain regardless of which bike I ride, the Shadow is by far the worst for my elbow.

Not sure if it is tendinitis, arthritis, or carpal tunnel. I do get some pain in my left hand as well. My gloves should be arriving soon. I will let you know if they make a difference on the elbow.

Folks I've talked to in our riding group think it's carpal tunnel because of the pressure on the wrist/palm area...no pain in my hand, just shoots up my arm and into my elbow. Hurts like hell though.

No pain in turns for me at all - twisties, sweepers, tight turns, nothing. We're going to the Hoot next week so I'll check out the vendors down there to see if they have any new products as well.

You may be right.

Those gloves just arrived about 20 minutes ago. Can't wait to see if they make a difference. Will let you know.

I gotta tell ya, these gloves are the greatest! I rode last night and had zero hand numbness! I always have my hands going to sleep when I ride. The palms are kinda thick so you have to get used to the larger feel of the grip, but they really do work!

I did a lot of the maneuvers we normally do for parade and drill. BIG DIFFERENCE. IF you recall from the previous posts, the last time I did a parade, my elbow was in extreme pain by the end. That was a 20 minute parade. Yesterday I did it for over an hour !! The pain in my elbow was barely noticeable, and certainly no different than before I got on the bike.

Hands were fine. No numbness or pain as well.

The trick with these gloves is that there is a gutter on the palm where the nerves bundle goes down to the wrist. So as you grab the handlebars this nerve bundle never receives any pressure. If you look at your palm, with the gloves on, you see an indentation, like a gutter going down from the middle of your palm to the wrist. The padding, gel or other, is built up around this gutter. Padding is thicker than most gloves, so the nerve bundle receives no pressure.

I would give it a shot Wanda. I think it would help.

VERY IMPORTANT. You have to measure your palm. If your right handed, measure the right palm and vice versa for left handed. That is your largest hand.

The fit is near perfect. No sloppiness etc.

I also ordered a pair of the Kevlar full fingered gloves. The palms are pretty stiff, and will take some breaking in. Plus they are very pricey. The half finger gloves are more reasonable in price. I would try one of those first.

hmmm...I'm right handed but I use my left hand a lot :stunned:...ummm, guess I will take the larger of the two measurements... :grin3:

And if you order the fingerless gloves, make sure and measure the length of your fingers so they fit right!
