I am in the process of putting on a 180 tire. Can I use the stock tube or do I need a new tube? The stock tube is a 160 and I don't know if it will be big enough to fill the 180. I still haven't finished with my chain yet. I think I am going to have to break down and buy a master link with a clip. I can't find anyone who has the rivet tool.

Mongo,
I don't think I'd use the 160 tube in a 180 tire. It may inflate OK, but I'd think the rubber would be stretched thin and be more susceptible to a rupture. Also, I want to mention that if you're using Metzeler 880's, the 170 is actually wider than the 180.

I'm using the stock tube in my 180 and haven't had any problems. U can use it and it'll work but like Nav said, it may not be the best choice. And keep in mind there's something wrong with my head and I'm not usually known for the wisest choices. :rolleyes5

It is better to replace the tube. They only cost $10-$20 if the tube goes bad before it is time to replace the tire it will cost you more than $20 to have your tire taken off and put back on.Plus ther is safty issues with using a tube in two diffrent tires.

I went to the honda shop and they only had a 170 tube, but I bought it and installed it. I think it will work fine.

Hey Mongo,

I have a Spirit 750 with the stock 160/80- 15 . I also want to put 180/70- 15s on my bike. Do I have to modify anything to accomodate the wider tire?

Thanks

Is this the tire to get 170/80HB15? I want to get the wide tire look but not do the vtx rim mod at this time. Is it alot wider then the stock tire?

Thanks
Jim

Has anyone done a side by side comparison of the 170 and the 200? Is the 200 "that much" wider?

So is the 170 wider then stock I didn't see any pics showing 170 to the 200 only stock to a 200

The stock is a 160, a 170 is wider than a 160. And a 200 is wider than a 170.
But, different tires look wider than one that measures wider. For instance, the rear tire on my bike is a ME880 170/80-15 which is wider than the 180/70-15.

My 170 actually measures about 3/4" wider than Susan's stock read tire.

There is no easy answer to the question other than a 200 is the widest out of all that I mentioned above.

I think the discussion of aspect ratios is mentioned in the other thread. Look through it again, that might help you out too.

Stock is 160, so a 170 'should' be wider by 10mm. Just over 3/8" wider then the stock tire. But there's been some discussion on some brands being a little wider then others.
