I thought about putting foward controls on my VT700, and I haven't had any luck finding some.:headscrat Forward controls are pretty simple in design, and like most of my ideas:idea2: , I may have to get creative and make some of my own (with the help of our local machine shop). If you look closely at the controls as they are now, it wouldn't take to much to extend them forward. I'll check around tomorrow and see what I can find out for sure on forward controls.

Oh by the way, Fuck Off Noob! :wiseguy: welcome to the board.:thumb:

With a little TLC you could have a really nice ride there, and you can't beat the price.

Welcome, XS
I have an 86 1100 and love it. I like the peg position on the older shadows
although I have a highway bar for stretching out.
Not a lot out there for our older bikes, but some stuff can be modified
for our use.

Alright, I've checked web page after web page, made calls, and the only thing I can come up with is...As Classic Shadow owners, we're screwed!

No really, some things you will still be able to buy, like my latest addition of a radiator cover, but certain things like forward contols will have to be adapted.
They make them for as far back as the 1987 VT1100, but Honda did a major re-design in 87, so they won't work on the 85/86's. :(
I took a closer look at the controls on the VT1100 and mine on the VT700 and I noticed that my controls are already moved forward compared to those of the 1100. You might want to check motorcycle salvage yards, I believe the 700/800's controls will work with the 1100 (I'm not positive on that.)

What do you think ED?:headscrat

P.S. Would you belive the Honda dealer laughed at me, when I asked about forward controls?
He asked me where do I come up with these ideas? Actually they've been a big help on finding things for me in the past.

I've pretty much come up with the same thing. Jack squat, that's OK cause I like to be different anyway. I've seen a couple of examples so far. I one guy I talked to adapted a set of forwards from a harley he picked up on ebay. If I can find a universal or a cheap ebay set I'll be rockin!

What's with this extra gas tank on the 85,86 vt1100? Is the main tank really small and is it really needed?

You guys have some nice bikes. They look good.

Cheers

You may have luck looking for and modifying a set that that is designed to fit a a machine that has the pegs mounted under the engine as the VT has.
Doesn't have to be Honda just take note that many models are equipped with a rear disc brake.

I don't know anything about forwards, so no help
there. They still make Exhaust for 1100 ( have Jardine
slip on's on mine ).
Two gas tanks, the guage sender is inside the lower tank
and the electric fuel pump is externally mounted next to
it. The total capacity is listed as 4.2 (I think) but the guage
will show E before you have used 3 gal. AND no reserve!!
So it's back to filling up on trip odo. readings.

I have a guage in the panel on the top of the tank, right next to the temp
guage. BUT no reserve switch.
I'm getting about 38 now, think I need to sync the carbs. Should be
getting 40 to 45.

Cool, I guess it's one of the differences between the 700 and 1100.
Not sure what kind of mileage I get yet, but I'll let you know as soon as it warms up here.

I just stumbled across this pic of a VT700 with forward controls(take a close look)...so SOMEBODY has to make them. I've seen this pic before but never noticed the controls until a few moments ago.

Hey M@oMan,

I realize this is an older thread, but here is a link to some forward controls for an '86-'87 VT700C and '88 VT800C. They're not exactly cheap at $529.00.

Yeah, they're made by Grand Canyon in the Netherlands. They're actually what's in the picture that m@ posted. I know a couple guys who have them (all overseas) and I've been told they mount a little wonky on the brake side. It's a lot of $ for something that doesn't work that well.
