Acouple of you know a little about this if you read the shoutbox Friday (Pegs, WW). Thursday night had the rescue take my mom to the hospital. She had been feeling crappy for about a day or so with flu like symptoms. Thursday night she felt like she was gonna pass out so I called 911. Docs said she had some kind of infection as white blood cell count was sky high. Sent her home and she went to her doc Friday. She was feeling a little better yesterday and then late afternoon she felt like she was gonna pass out again. So she got another ride in the rescue (dammit, she's been in our new rescue more than I have).

They said she has diverticulitis and kept her at the hospital. I told her that since she wasn't having any pains whatsoever that it wasn't that bad. Doc said it may never even bother her again.

She's in better health than I am normally. 70 years old and only has high blood pressure and last time she was in the hospital was 25 years ago for a hysterectomy.

Needless to say I didn't get a hell of a lot of sleep last night. Gonna head over to see her now.

Later. :fireman:

Feel your pain guy... My wife has been in a battle with a mysterious infection that never seems to go away. This type of health issue is frustrating because you never are quite sure your loved one has been cleared of it.

Smoke,
I'm sure she'll be ok. I have diverticulosis. When the divirticuli get infected you get diverticulitis (itis=infection).

Obviously, she should be on antibiotics if she has an infection. She should stay away from seeds and nuts which get caught in the "pockets" which cause the inflamation and so on. Make sure she's getting enough fiber in her diet and keep her away from the seeds/nuts!

It can be very painful and in bad cases requires surgery.

Blessings.....

Thanks again guys. She is feeling a little better tonight. Diarrhea is gone. She looked better than she did this afternoon too.

It's weird being alone in the house though. People look at me strange when they find out I still live with my mom. If she wasn't up there in age I would be out on my own. Good thing too, because if I wasn't here she wouldn't have called an ambulance. I told her last night that she was lucky she got dizzy when she did because in 5 more minutes I was heading out for the night with the girlfriend. She said "Oh, I would have just laid down on the couch." I couldn't believe it! I told her if she had done that she may not have gotten up, she said she didn't think of that.

Like I always tell people, she spent many years taking care of me now it's my turn to take care of her.

Thanks again for the kind words. I really appreciate it.

Glad to see she gets better.

Doctors spend all that time in college and they are still only guessing what is wrong with there patients.

Smoke - good to hear about your Mom. I hope she's continuing to improve. Thanks for updating us.

Good for you for living with your Mom to keep an eye on her...that's a lot different that living with her because you have to but, if you didn't have a girlfriend, I'd be concerned :heh_heh:

Dr.'s go through all that schooling and they practice medicine. How come we all have to be professionals at what WE do?

Police officers profile [ guessing based on experiance], Mechanics are the same, Fire Fighters fight the fires but MANY times the house still burns down. We all have jobs that do allow for error. Paramedics lose people all the time on the way to the hospital. Landscapers can kill your grass and Pest controll always has to keep coming back!

She must have a high tolerance to pain, because dr says its equivalent to having a baby!! I work in the medical field and can tell you I have seen men cry … lol. She’s a trooper!!

She had no pain whatsoever. I told her it had to be a mild case of it if she had no pain. I've had Crohn's disease for 25 years and told her she was lucky because she could have been doubled over screaming like I am alot of times.

She is doing better tonight. Looked alot better than yesterday. They said she tested positive for c-dif (nasty bacteria) and so did the girl in the bed next to her. They had a sign at the door that visitors had to wear these yellow gowns (which is stupid cuz its only contagious if her poop comes in contact with you, and I don't think she's gonna start flinging it lie a chimp does!) But my brother, his girlfriend and my girlfriend were there and I walked in with my gown on like a cape. I said "they told me I have to wear it, not HOW I have to wear it!" hehehehe. Anyway, every time I was in for crohn's flare up (which used to be at least once a month) they'd say I had it then next day said tests were negative.

Thanks for all the well wishes. You guys and gals are awesome!:jamming:

First of all, you may be surprised to learn that there is no evidence that anything in your diet history caused or contributed to these diseases. Once you develop IBD, however, paying special attention to what you eat may go a long way toward reducing symptoms and promoting healing.

Yeah,I knew that. Certain things can aggravate the condition though. Stress being one.

BUT, if the landscaper kills your grass or the pest control people don't control your bugs, either you don't pay them or they come back for free..... Hmmmm. Doctors never did that for me:no:

Smoke make sure she takes the entire prescription. With a bacterial virus you can start feeling great and fall right back into it again. If your Mom is like my parents are/were as soon as they start to feel ok, they stop taking the meds. With bacterial infections it is critical, especially for older people, to take the entire prescription.

She will believe me. She doesn't want to go back to hospital. She only has to take flagyl for 10 days.
