I put a new chain on my bike today but I am confused on how to secure the master link. Can anyone give some info on how to keep the chain from falling apart?

There isn't a clip. The mast link appears as if the ends need to be swelled out to hold it together. I have it on the bike and the link pushed together. I just don't know how to swell the ends to get them to secure the chain together. I assume I have the staking kind.

Scroll to the bottom of this link and you'll seepics of the tool I think you may have to use to rivet the masterlink.

Well, I got the chain together. I talked to a farmer who had a tool for combine chains and he let me use it. With a little modification the tool worked fine. I used a small ball bearing to open the ends of the rivets. I hope it holds.

I'm definitely gonna side with Tj....if you are in doubt cut it off and install one that has a clip.

I agree, the $5 you will spend on a clip link is worth it when you consider the alternative.

If nothing else take it up to the stealership and have them make sure it is set. Loosing that link on the highway is not the way you want to find out it isn't quite right.

Ohh. brother....buy the complete chain if necesarry! if that chain breaks and locks up the rear tire (hey it happened to my brother once.... thank God we were not going that fast) you are going to be experiencing a High side = superman without the power to fly...spend the $ is worth it, a new chain with the master link is very easy to install!

I had a dealer look at the chain and he said it looked the same as if they did it. So I guess the tool worked. I don't understand why Honda doesn't include a master that a normal person can put on. That rivet link was a pain in the ass.
