I purchased the 01 VLX tonight but, prior to that I picked up some shotgun pipes that a friend gave me. I have to clean them up, but they were free. I plan on installing them this weekend ... I can't wait to hear the difference. I'll take some before and after pics soon. New bike ... so much chrome to buy!!

You can't turn down FREE, especially pipes! That's a great first mod. It's great that you are installing them.

Shotgun? What brand is it?
I assume it a higher flow tipe compared to stock. Stock VLX is overly lean at low end and midrange, you will need to rejet to compensate otherwise it will run way too lean and damaged your internal parts. Dynojet is a good brand for a jet kit.
After rejet, the next thing is change stock paper intake filter with high flow filter. Quite a few choices for this one depending on your budget and preferred look, starting frm $10.
Oh yes, congrats for the bike and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

If you don't mind me asking.....How much did you have to give for it? Mine is an '02 and up for sale and was just trying to get an idea as to what they are going for?

I purchased it for 2500.00, the retail blue book value was 3520.00 so I got a good deal. It only has 5,000 miles on it and the tires are new.

Not sure what the brand is but will be posting a pic here in a bit. The pipes were installed on another bike and apparently they did not jet them because part of the pipe is blue. I have a friend thats going to jet it for me, thanks for the tip on replacing the filter as well.

Nice bike and a great price. Looks better without the bags and Windshield. Check your PM regarding pipes.
