View Full Version : The Classic Intake Debate...

Alright - I think I may finally be ready to take the plunge and upgrade my intake. Have you guys seen the new chrome tornado from Thunder? Awfully sweeeet...
As far as what all I need, I'm a little confused - Thunder's website is kind of vague pertaining to what all you get when you buy. Here's my question - I'll obviously need to rejet after I install new intake. For those of you who have bought them, do the Thunder Air Kits come with new jets? If so, is there anything else I need to perform a "rejet"?
One more question - for the same money (based on thundermfg.com), I could also get a hypercharger. I know this discussion has gone back and forth, but what are pro's and con's of tornado vs hypercharger (vs hurricane, for that matter).
What's your preference?
Thanks in advance!

I don't know about if the jets are included, but they'll definitely be required. If all else fails, with that rain cover on your girl friend may love this mod.
That cover doesn't look like it belongs on a bike, looks like it should be some lady's sock/panty drawer.

That is what I was thinking. WOW!
Noize, To answer your questions... Thunder sends jets with the intake but you still need to buy a jet kit to get the needles. You will need to do a stage 3 re-jet. The instructions can be found over at www.sa750.com as the jet kit comes with only Stage 1 instrusctions.
Other than that you just need tools. I would recommend a digital camera to take pictures of the progress. I would also recommend some heavy duty adhesive to glue the intake boot on to the mounting plate the Thunder sends.
I originally bought a hurricane but than sold it and went with a tornado. It was more in line with the look I was going for.

Yeah Jake, I don't really dig the dong-like rain cover, but do like the chrome finish on the rest of it.
Menace - yours (that comes to a nice sharp point) is actually what I was looking for. It would look damn nice with my grips. Who makes it?

I got the intake at Cruiser Performance and the cover was home made and chromed by Widow in TSW. Widow no longer makes them.

Noize I think what your looking at is there new covers for the filter. I have the tornado on my bike and love it...
How can they include jets and know what you will need? You don't just abitrailly install a jet. There is a proceedure for figuring out the burn.
If they include a jet and you trust it, you deserve the result. No two bikes will turn out the same.
I know they are all shadows, but come on, we aint cookie cutting here.

right. My kit included lots of jets and I had to find the setup that worked for me. It takes some time and some riding and some extra plugs before you are all set.

Check with jaxon at WWW.wildcardcustoms.com He makes custom intakes for around the same price.

I just used the jets that Thunder included. They were 135-138 I believe. Worked beautifully.

That's pretty darn generous of them. I didn't expect they'd send an assortment. Very cool.

The assortment comes in the jet kit. But they are not big enough for the amount of air that the thunder pumps in.

Jets are like $2 each. Whole kits are about $60 and include 20-ish jets.
