Hello all, new to the forum and riding in general. Just picked up a new '06 Spirit 750 and love it. Only thing is I can't seem to tell if there is a low gas light on the thing. I read a review of the '01 when the line came out which states that a light does exist, but can't find anything about my bike yet. No indication directly on the cluster so was wondering if it comes up in the LCD? I haven't really rode much up here in the northeast either with the weather, so hopin someone can help me. Thanx and look forward to hangin around here some more.

Welcome!!! Most Honda cruisers do not have fuel lights. Like Razor said, watch your trip meter and remember to reset every time you fuel.

Read your manual - it will tell you what reserve is on your bike. Most are around 1 gallon or less. When you've road about 125 - 150 miles (depending on your bike & riding style) and your bike starts to sputter - your outta gas. Switch your petcock to reserve and get to a gas station. You don't want to run your tank too low - if there is any dirt in there it will get in the motor.... :bomb:

Have fun out here and don't take anything too seriously...we don't.

Seems that low fuel lights are just on fuel injected bikes and ours aren't. Carb bikes have reserve petcocks (I said petcocks:lol:). Ride it until it starts to sputter a little then reach down between you legs....... it's the small knob on the left rear just behind the tank. Don't get confused with any other small knobs down there......Turn it to point up! You can go a ways on reserve but fill as soon as practical. Make sure you put the petcock back to pointing down or you won't have any reserve next time!
Welcome to the site. Enjoy and don't let AIRPORTFF run you outa here like he has so many before you!:laugh4:

Keep your hand off your petcock while riding. That's just not safe!!! Get a room!

Seriously, around 100-120, the bike will begin to loose power. Reset your trip meter and gas her up.

Unfortunately they are right. No light. When I get 125 miles on I better be headed for a gas station. Just watch your odometer.

There IS a light when you're low on fuel!!

A red one.... When it comes on you'll experience a loss of excelleration. You reach down by you left leg and flip the fuel lever over to reserve and start looking for a gas station! :cool4:

To prevent having to follow this proceedure, set the trip meter like folks have said.... Fill it up...drive for 100 miles then fill it up again... note the fuel milage and then figure out how much gas you carry on a full tank, less what is in the reserve.... then subtract 20% or what ever you feel is a comfortable margin. Then be religious about your trip meter it is your friend.

Awesome, thanx for all the quick responses. I'm glad to see that you guys aren't tightly wound, that's for sure. No problems here taking the smack, as long as those who give it can too... Bummer about the light, but no real problem watchin the mileage. Thanx again, and see ya round.:jamming:

Be carefull with all those estimated miles. The best I can get is somewhere between 90 and 100 miles before I have to pet my petcock...... er I mean switch to reserve. Most depends on your size. If your skinny like me (300+) you aint gonna get 150 miles.

And welcome aboard...... PS watch out for Airport - he is MEAN and calous, but PEGS is just plain Nuts

It's the same filler for both. The reserve is actually just a lower fuel outlet on your tank.

:sneaky: I guess you didn't read the sarcasm in my typing. I actully had a guy ask me that once. He must have been a new rider. Had a Virago, and was on the side of road out of gas. I stopped to see if I could help and he hadn't switched to the reserve. I got it started again for him and he asked where he filled up the reserve.

Gottcha. I've always been moving when I've switched over to reserve so the oil pressure doesn't drop........... Hope your battery is up!

Cute Big O. cute. What really sucks is when it sputters, you reach down to switch to reserve and discover that you're already there because like a dumb ass you forgot to switch it back last time! You learn to a) switch it back to main when you fill up and b) DON"T LET IT GET THAT LOW AND YOU WON"T HAVE THAT PROBLEM, DUMBASS!!!

When I baught the bike, the dealer had it on reserve already. I found out about a week later when I ran out gas just outside of town.

I always shake the bike when I get it out of the garage. If I don't hear the gas swishing, then I need gas. Who needs a guage?
