so i have been seriously neglecting my CBR for some time now. spending all my time & money first on the SS & now on the VTX. well its time i did some work to it & got it back in riding condition.

i stripped all the plastics off of it today to start removing the old rattle can primer & get them prepped for a new paint job. i also got rid of the fiberglass one piece tail that was on it because it was cracked in several places & the mounting tabs were broken & had been repaired once already & they just wont hold. so i picked up a GSXR 1000 tail (gonna get a seat from egay)at a local shop that is in excellent condition. no cracks, breaks, scratches, & all the tabs are in one piece. i just have to shave a little off the bottom to make it fit my sub-frame.

i removed my rear sets that i had also rattle canned & dropped them off with a friend who has a sand blaster. he's gonna blast them clean for me then i will polish them back up. after all they were polished aluminum already.

plans are to replace all of the cable (already have 2 new throttle cables for it). put SS brake lines on it front & rear. plus i have a new rotor for the back. trying now to find the 2 matching ones for the front rim. gonna get rid of the factory air box & replace it with filter pods on each carb.

engine wise the motor is solid. the bike use to below to my ex's husband & he built it for racing, so i don't really have a lot to do as far as that goes. however i do plan on adding a Factory Pro shift kit to the tranny & a 4* timing mod into the cams. eventually though i will buy a set of high performance cams from Hot Cams for it. i will also rebuild the carbs with a stage 7 FP kit.

for the frame, i plan on having it blasted & powdered Flat Black. i want to Murder the bike out, but my girl wont let me. she wants it painted Blue with a hint of Gray in it.

now here's where someone out there can help me out. the Wiring Harness on this thing is basically shot. i've been searching all over the net trying to find a good used one that has not been cut but not having much luck. now if someone out there has the Electrical Skills to build me a harness using pieces from the one i got, well then i would be in the zone & you'll have some money in your pocket. so let me know if anyone can do it & do it right.

here's a couple of pics & yes i know this is the Dark Xide Section, but trust me it doesnt get much Darker then this bastard. plus its easy for me to keep you all posted on the build without having to track down my thread all the time.

so i've got the bike about half stripped down so far. havent been able to do much with it the last few weeks because i have been busy as hell. but i did get some new parts ordered for it.

i picked up a used gixxer tail from a local shop that is like brand new. has no scratches, cracks, and all of the tabs are there. tonight i ordered some new parts that it has been need of from egay. i was shocked at how low some of the prices were though. here is a list of what i have so far & what is still planned.

on order:
gixxer tail cowl
gixxer undertail w/ built in tail lights & led turn signals
stator
rectifier
factory pro 2* ignition gear
rear brake rotor
clutch cable
throttle cables

gotta get the engine out this weekend so i can get it cleaned up & painted. should look really good with a fresh coat of high gloss black heat paint. so kind i used on the Vette engine.

finally got a chance today to get some work done on Bevo. went to work on it early & by the end of the day this is how she is sitting now out in the garage. got the engine up on the work bench. gonna start cleaning it tomorrow & get it prepped to be painted. i need to fix some of the gaskets on it from where the engine was rebuilt a few years ago because they are starting to leak. i've also got the 2* ignition gear that i need to get set up in the head to advance the timing on it then install the new stator into it as well.

did a little research earlier on how to change out my old analog gauges to a F4I set off a an early 2000 model 600RR. once i get this thing back together its gonna be a great bike again. its been neglected the last couple of years & all the money has went into other bikes.

actually that pic on the wall is the pic of Oomps bike with the pipes that my SS had on it. i got it off of his website to use as a reference when i was building my pipes.

got somemore parts in today, i had ordered a wiring harness off of egay that only had 1 cut in it compaired to about 20 in mine...lol plus i ordered a set of air pod filters for the carbs along with having a bid in on a CBR600 F4I gauge cluster. gonna try & get the duracoat ordered tomorrow so i can get the frame & wheel painted because they need a full month to cure before reassembly. once cured though that shit is tougher than powder coat.

woodytick
04-04-2012, 01:10 PM
ok still have a bunch of more parts coming in. i have a 4 day this weekend so i plan to get the engine cleaned & painted & try to get the frame done as well. was gonna duracoat the frame but now i think i will just paint it instead.

Wow...talk about a project...I had an 06 CBR 1000RR and loved it...this is gonna be sweet.

yea this thing is a Liter Bike on steroids. the engine & tranny in it was build for racing along with the suspension.:stunned:

ok the list of parts is HUGE but lets see if i can name off all of the things that i've got sitting in the garage or on the way.

wiring harness
stator
rectifier
Gixxer 1000R tail w/ undertail w/ LED tail lights & turn signals, seat cowl, & seat
270mm steering damper stabilizer
HD loud horn
cbr929rr radiator fan
60mm universal filter pods
BK fuel gas cap
factory pro ignition rotor
clutch & throttle cables
rear brake rotor
Shinko tires: 190/50/17 rear; 120/70/17 frontSTILL NEED:

chain & sprockets
stainless steel brakelines
HID headlights
grips
frame sliders
factory pro shift kiti have to solder the stator plug back onto the harness i picked up this weekend. the jackass for some reason cut the plug off for some stupid reason. i also need to put the new stator & the ignition gear into the engine as well. i was gonna duracoat the frame but i have since changed my mind. i can save some money by just purchasing some gloss black paint & clear coating it.

ok was just doing some reading over on the RR Zone & from what i have read, its really easy to put the timing gear in the engine. supposed to be about a 10 minute job... yea right i guess we'll see about that.

i'll have some more pics up here soon. got a 4 day weekend so i plan on getting some stuff done.

got the engine partially cleaned up tonight. still some crap on it though, talking to Mine20 via txt & he told me to get some acetone along with some steel wool & just go to town on it. so i'll work on that the rest of the week. but i'm having a hell of a time trying to pull my fuel rail off of it. the screws are loose & they just dont want to come off the engine.

actually i just finished reading the soda blasting sticky, & after talking to Mark i'm gonna give this a try on cleaning the engine. from the looks of BE's carbs, this should clean the engine up nicely.

got a few more parts in today as well. the new Shinko Race tires along with my filter pods. trying to do my best to have a new rolling frame this weekend.

so i was able to finally get some work done on Bevo this weekend. i got the motor painted up & the filter pods installed along with the new stator. also got the rad cleaned up & painted along with the 929RR fan mounted back up. \

yesterday i stripped the wheels down from the old paint. i used aircraft paint remover & man this thing will eat the paint off of anything. it is some good shit. i got as far as priming them up but haven't laid town the paint on them yet. maybe i will get a chance tomorrow evening to get it laid down then clear them tuesday night. here are a few pics.

Coming along very nicely man! Can't wait to for the KZ and CBR to meet up on the 3 sisters. I want your swingarm for my KZ. I have a 05 636 wheel just itching to be put on the KZ.

woodytick
04-15-2012, 10:26 PM
dude there are several on CL right now up in Dallas & Houston. right now i am searching trying to find an F4I gauge cluster set for it. i want to switch from analog to digital on the gauges. so keep an eye out for me.

when you change that swing arm, you're gonna have to run atlest a 190 on the back for the much added coolness look to it. that what i got new for the back of this one.

Mine20
04-16-2012, 07:49 PM

so last night Eagle told me to get my ass back to work. so i took his advice & did just that. i spent hours today standing at the work bench polishing ever stinking bolt that went back onto this bike. pictures do not do it justice, if you could see it up close you'd be like....DAMN!!!!!

Did you get the master cylinder on the X?

Now a new project.....BE is right....better get back to work.

woodytick
04-29-2012, 10:42 PM
oh yea the master cylinder is on it. let me tell you, polishing each one of those damn bolts & nuts are extremely time consuming. not one bolt will go back on without being polished & looking like new. i know its gonna take a while but in the end it will be worth it.

no i havent had a chance over the last week. plus i am waiting for a few parts still to come in. kinda pissed because i didnt get a damn master link with the chain. so i contacted the company & they said they would send me one.

oh trust me you will find it once i paint the skins for it. i'm gonna get the subframe finished up this week along with getting the hand controls on it. i had ordered a set of stainless brakelines & the damn company tried to send me black ones. then had to go back & forth with them to get my money back. but i slammed their asses on the feedback on egay. (thats why i always wait till i get my stuff to leave feedback)

woodytick
05-19-2012, 09:36 PM
ok so i had a few parts come in earlier in the week so i was able to get some work done today. i got the bars stripped back down & polished. then installed the new brake & clutch levers along with the throttle & clutch cable. mocked up the rear, let me tell you there is alot of work involved when you wanna put a Gixxer tail & seat on a CBR. had to do some trimming to the underside of it along with cutting the mounting tabs off of the seat & making new ones to put back on it. then i removed 6 links from the new chain & got it all tightened down. since i have the Fox racing shock on this thing, it has a separate resivor for the oil. so i fabbed up a mounting tab for it, it was on there before getto fabulous but now it ill be stuck on the new tab with some nice polished exhaust clamps.

the last few things i have to do is to get the front brake lines installed then bleed the brakes, and then hook up all the wiring again. once this is all done, the only thing left to do is to prep & paint the plastics.

as you can see from the pic here the tank is not painted yet. i just set it on here to get a good look at how the seat & tail would match up.

yea there is no greater statisfaction of doing the work yourself & having people ask you, well who did the work for you. then when you tell that that you did, they usually have a surpised look on their face.
