Tank question

My tank is shot, rusted out, crap....I need another and have been looking around trying to avoid the 800 price at the dealer. The thing i am finding is, most tanks dont have this little vent tube underneathe the tank like mine, so, can i get away without having this tube or not....I was considering buying another tank a cutting out the old tube and welding into the new one, or is this just a retarded idea.

All fuel tanks are vented. They may not have the bung (little tube sticking out) for a vent hose, but rather use a vented cap. Check Ebay I've seen dozens of tanks go for around a Bill.
