Lately I have been getting a lot of requests to clean up Shadowriders and add some rules on posting. I get lots of messages from guests asking bike related questions because they are afraid to ask a question in the forum. Many guests will not join the forum because of the fear of being told to “Fuck Off Noob”.
We have lost a lot of good members who contributed their knowledge and in some cases money and will never return because of the bashing and arguing that goes on.
<o></o>
As in the past, I am going to cast a vote and let the forum decide what we should do.
Option 2 says this: (I am limited to 100 charcters in a poll.)
Add some rules and help out new members and guests with their searches and questions and stop telling them to “Fuck Off” and treat them the way you would want to be treated?

To tell the truth, I really like being able to come here and post without worrying about being called down or having threads deleted because I didn't meet the "standards" of the particular board. Course I still have to watch out for spilling errors, but I can always tell AFF to fuck off!!
As far as how we treat the noobs, if they get their nose that far out of joint over some real or imagined insult, they aren't going to fit in with the majority of the current members anyway. Also, while we have had some noobs start out posting good solid questions and info the ones who don't know shit are normally the ones who get their panties in a bunch.

Well, the "fuck off noob" does not bother me... after 4 in the Corps, then retiring from the Navy? If you all want to offend ME, ya better go big, or stay in the doghouse. I will say that you have probably lost a lot of quality members, who ask a legitimate (in their mind) question, and all the get is crap. Yes, I read all the bullshit about not wanting to change, yadda, yadda, YADDA... but if you people would simply ANSWER some noobies fucking questions, then you would probably have more good members.
You don't even need to make many changes, JUST STOP DRIVING NEW MEMBERS OFF. I am on some other forums, mod on a good one, and I must admit... some of the questions ARE freaking ridiculous, to us. To the person who just bought their first bike though, that stupid question MAY be perfectly reasonable.
BTW, Ed... I LIKE your bike. What is the windshield? I run a Memphis Shades Roadstar.

Even if things were going to change because of the vote we would still not be like any other lame ass forum. I think some noobs get caught off guard because they are used to rules and don't expect the punishment. We try to warn them on the way in, but they still join out of curiosity or whatever. One thing I have noticed is that its not just noobs, some veteran posters get offended and bail out because somebody pissed them off. I know we can’t make everyone happy, but if we were more considerate of each other there would be less arguing and less of a change of a thread turning bad. :knife:

I don't come around here much and was rather surprised that this type of discussion would come up on a biker board... Interesting at the difference in post replies vs the vote results. Why does it have to be black-or-white. Add a few boards for noobs with thin skins and members who want a polite conversation. Post the rules on those boards and enforce them (not allowed in those particular boards if you show you don't want to abide by the rules of those boards) Otherwise, leave the rest alone.

I've been around the net for a long time. Seen many forums and groups come and go. One thing thing that has ALWAYS been consistent, is that when moderator contols are placed on the the user base the value of the forum goes down the pot.
That is not to say that when left uncontroled that a forum thrives. Quite to the contrary. What typically happens is that a select group will run out of control and push the bulk of the community to the back of the bus. This isn't good for a forums health either.
If there is any change to be made, then that change has to come from the membership by the membership. Self policing of ourselves is the only way to 'improve' on what we have here.
Moderator controls aren't going to work; they will only serve to stiffle the community.
Allowing the forum to run unbridled will lead to the amusment of some to the deteriment of the rest.
I've not noticed the anachy bug taking hold here on our forum. I have seen it on other forums and the effects have been devistating. Either the bulk of the user base is ran off or the moderators are forced to step in and 'filter' postings. In either case the overall value of the interaction is reduced or eliminated.
It's about sharing experience, friendship, and knowledge. Either end of the spectrum will stiffle that process. So it is to all of our benifit to police ourselves.
Telling new people to FON is not an harmful practice so long as those Noobs also know that they are not being treated any differently that anyone else starting out on this forum.
We can and will disagree, that's life and we're peopel (with a few exceptions). Understanding that no one person or group of people hold the core value of this interchange is the only thing we need to keep in the back of our mind. The value comes from interaction and we all need to continue to embrace practices that encourage that between all of us.

Why must we disrupt the site that we all are comfortable with for the sake of a few people that will probably post once and never be heard from again? This PC bullshit is getting ridiculous. Why can't we have a place to go that we enjoy and not have to worry about what others think? We bust balls back and forth, if some can't take it, then maybe this is the wrong place for them.
If people don't like the posts that have arguments in them, don't fucking read them. If you are the brunt of the argument, you probably did something stupid.
Some things are unprovoked, that I understand, but these thin skinned pussies that come in here and expect their little version of Motorcycle Bambi want to ruin it for the members that have been contributing for over a year or so now.
Rob, I know that you want the forum to continue to grow. So do I. But at what cost to the original members?

If you new assholes want to change the site that WE like. At least have the balls to post here and tell the other members why. You don't need to bother Rob with it. What you are whining about is going to affect the WHOLE site at least you could grow a spine and let us know who you are. Typical conservative fucking pussies.

lol. No way. If rules are implemented we as a group can decide what those rules are going to be. We can have a poll to decide on rules and a poll to decide which rules make it to the poll. How does that sound? Hold on, I need to make that question into a poll.

Honestly, as a moderator on another forum, I feel a few rules never hurt anyone, but this place seems to run fine as it is. It is what it is and people are quick to see that when they join. I was told to F-off when I joined and I still visit. I get it. Others don't. The one's that don't, don't belong here.
I mainly visit three forums and I get something different from each. If this place became just like one of the others, I may not visit as often.
I think letting people know what to expect before coming in will help.

I have been offended by things typed on this site before. I still come back. I wish Shadow and Nav and a few others still came by and posted more. There have been times when I thought I had out grown this place. That a new crop came in and took over. There have been times when I just stopped by to read posts because I did not want to talk to anybody. I have prolly offended just about every member at one time or another. I have also made them laugh. I have also helped. I have made friends and scared off noobs. I have lost friends because of others on this board too. I like change. I do not know that these changes will make this a better board. TSW is a great board with simular rules. I don't think it is going away anytime soon. I think this board is in a constant state of flux and has yet to find its groove. The forth option could be to ban me.:rolleyes3

That is a very good point. But as a admin, let me point out what we have to consider.
Is it worth having a small niche controlling the place while we fund it? For us, new traffic can mean revenue, if our current members are not helping us keep new members, bills can go unpaid and future growth is inhibited.
Then we have to ask ourselves, what is my website about? Will the content my current members are posting incite others to post about my topic? If the topic is not being discussed, then the oppurtunity for advertising income is diminished. No one is going to pay to advertise on a site about widgets when the only thing being discussed is general chat that does not involve widgets.
General chat incites arguements of opinion and perspective that can never be settled.
Talk about widgets makes us think of how best to use widgets, even if we do it differently, that is an absolute means to an end, using a widget to your best advantage.
Us admins have to look at stats, revenue, effort required, and future oppurtunity. Not just what our buds want. I mean after all, we are trying to make a buck.
But at the end of the day, if the place is just a niche hangout and a few people pay the bills and are happy the way things are, close the door. Don't leave the door open as if to say others may be welcome and then not welcome them.
There's my two cents. Good sites survive stuff like this and you guys seem to be doing fine.
Ride safe!

Is the total membership more or less than what it was a year ago? My guess is that it is more. That is not an incidcation that the forum is on a negative slide. Yes, there are members who were active in the past and are not active any more, but, if you belong to as many organizations as I do, you would realize this is NORMAL.
People will come and go. If you try to mold the forum to appease to everyone, you will lose more than you gain. I have seen this happen time and time again. You cannot please everyone, nor should you try.
Yet, I think your suggestion on the right track. However, foreget about creating RULES. Instead post some GJUIDLINES. Not for the members, but for potential new members. Think of it as a Caveat Emptor. Then new members will have a better appreciation for Fuck off Noob, and understand why we have a special Forum for the Warthogs of this world.
Don't homogonize and pastuerize us. This is what makes this Forum so great.

Before I joined the site, I lurked around a few weeks and knew what to expect. I believe some people just come on here looking for a fight, and others don't even care to ask questions about bikes. A good example is that thread that was posted in "Ask Susan" Did that guy ask any questions pertaining to Shadows? I don't believe he did, his first and only posts were in "Ask Susan's" section and I'm not sure what kind of answer he was looking for becuase he seemed to me to just want to argue with any reply he got. Yes it's true, there were some good zingers in there as replies, but hey were a bunch of smart ass bikers here. It says right on the main page "The Shadowriders forum is not censored and may offend some people." I like that, anyone who joins should read that first and not be offended. Those of us from the old board before the crash that still post on a regular basis have written the things you find so helpful while lurking. You pompass ingrate bastards.FUCK YOU!!!!!
Mr. Sinister, (my that is a catchy name)
Although I value and respect your opinions of others I feel the need to ask you to watch your language.
Concerning the subject of newer members. I am curious about your mention of 3 post members. Their opinions are just as valuable as yours or mine and it's what makes this site such a joyous place. If a member has only 3 posts and registered 6 months ago, that is not for us to judge. Perhaps that individual was in the hospital and unable to add to our banter. I'm sure that they have a good reason, and that they are going to participate more.
Hugs,

My Dearest Matt,
I hope that you are feeling better and that things with the new house are going well. It would be in extremely poor taste for me to correct you given the way you are feeling. I understand that certain medications will effect your judgement. Perhaps a nap and a nice hot cup of tea would make you more alert and able to post more often.
Your Friend,
Clint
My Good Friend Clint,
I thank-you for your concern, I am feeling better. The move is going slower than expected, but we will be all settled in before the end of March.
I'm glad to hear from you.
Sincerly,

I agree with the rule...Some think that everyone is a wrench and is supposed to know everything, I bought my first Shadow 5 years ago and hadnt owned a Honda before that other than my old XR500. Each bike is different and the reason we come to these forums is to get knowledge about our bikes. Rudeness is not accepted in real life and shouldnt be accepted here, if someone was rude to me in real life about asking a question , they'd get 100% of me in their face . Some choose to be rude here because they feel their are no reprocussions as they'd get in real life ( like getting their ass kicked ). I left this forum long ago because of that very thing. I was tired of this group acting like retards and not getting any help. If this forum returns to the reason it was initally founded, to be a resource and place for fellow riders to talk about a specific brand of vehicle , I would love to come back and offer my 2 cent. Good job admins, it nice to see someone in this day and age taking responsibility and doing something about the decline of attitudes in a society where bikers should be helping each other and not offering schoolyard childish opinions.

Leave it the way it is! Some people take the internet way too seriously. If you're easily offended by "Fuck off NOOB" then you need to go live in a bubble where no one will hurt your little feelings, 'cause if you cut me off in traffic I'd flip you off. The state isn't changing driving laws 'cause I hurt your feelings when I told you to go fuck yourself. Catch what I'm sayin' ?!?

This is a god damn soap opera!!!! i feel like I'm at work, worrying about being PC and not offending anyone. I like it how it is. If a noob takes it seriously, well, they can move on. We are all here having a good time, sharing laughs, making fun of each other, and when needed, sharing input on our bikes. I like how it is, if it changes, well, I guess it changes, but I'm going to stay the same. Who's going to yell at me for breaking the rules?!?! I hope it's Lisa and some handcuffs and a whip!!!!!!! Rules were made to be broken!

I agree with Cryin' Wolf...I don't think I was ever told to "Fuck off noob" and I feel like I'm missing out. Anyone who actually wants to be a member, takes the time to read previous posts, and has an IQ that's bigger than their shoe size realizes that the "Fuck off noob" is a kind rite of passage. Not to mention that the phrase is always followed by helpful, straight forward advice. I have posted threads in other forums (e.g., cycleworld) and I have gotten shotty advice and my threads have been completely taken over by guys that only talk shit about each other.
I am very happy to have this forum and I wouldn't change anything about it.

Ride safe!
Ok... I was going to read all the way through the thread before saying anything, but I can't hold my wad any longer. I haven't been around very long, but as many others have stated, I got FON'd after just a couple of posts. And was glad to receive that welcome. I looked around the site a while before joining and new what kind of group this was (or at least what the ACTIVE members were about). I felt welcomed and was glad to be here. I spend a lot of time here and enjoy every minute of it. It's gritty, nasty, foul, and best of all "REAL"!!!! I even became a contributor. If noobs who claim to have been "lurking around for a while" get offended and leave... FUCK EM!
As for posts not matching the poll results... I've seen a lot posts here from folks with join dates of early 2005, who still have trikes... there's even a couple with 1 or 2 posts. WHERE THE FUCK HAVE YOU BEEN and what difference does it make what goes on here if you're not gonna be active?
Lastly, I read in this post "Us admins have to look at stats, revenue, effort required, and future oppurtunity. Not just what our buds want. I mean after all, we are trying to make a buck." I was under the impression that a "hangout" was exactly what I had joined. If that's not what this is, if it's all about somebody trying to line their fucking pocket, you can wipe your ass with my donation and ban my rude, loud mouthed, bad attitude, fat ass!!!
As I said, I own several domain names and pay for hosting. I have forum capabilities there, if this place turns into the PUSSYPINKPOLITICALLYCORRECTRIDERS.COM, and Y'all want an unrestricted, free-for-all, I'll turn on the forum application over there and we'll party our fucking asses off!!!!!:drink:

Here's an idea Menace. On the page where new members register, put a little paragraph explaining exactly what to expect from us kooks. Let them know its all in good fun. Have two buttons at the bottom:
Button #1 - I agree. Let me register.
Button #2 - Not interested (this button can have a link to http://disney.go.com/home/today/index.html)
Keep it the way it is. If you can't handle the ball busting (and 99% of the time that's all it is), don't register. I think we have a great bunch of people here and between all of them can probably get any question answered.
People get all bent when Clint gets on them about the search button, but there have been so many topics covered here that he's just trying to make it easier on everybody. When he posts something about using the search button, it may seem like he's being a dick. But everybody is going to interpret it differently. I agree with the rule...Some think that everyone is a wrench and is supposed to know everything,
I dont know everything and when I need info, I ask and always get an answer. But I ask AFTER searching the site first. Too many people want a quick answer and dont take the time to actually go thru the different threads which are labeled appropriately
the reason we come to these forums is to get knowledge about our bikes.
and have fun
Rudeness is not accepted in real life
Shut up you big baby, People are rude everyday
if someone was rude to me in real life about asking a question , they'd get 100% of me in their face .
[now is THAT appropriate behavior?
I was tired of this group acting like retards and not getting any help.
Then you made a very intelligent decision by doing what you did
offering schoolyard childish opinions.
He Made me do it!!

My dearest fellow members,
I am very dissappointed in how you have all been treating me lately. I don't know if I can take much more of this. From now on, Pegs will be posting on the PINK SIDE so I don't get my feelings hurt any longer. I want to thank Menace for his site. I want to thank Clint for being there when I needed him. I want to thank Sin, Razor, Purp, Sarge, Wanda and Frank for all of the support and kind words they have given me. Gods bless you all in your future endevors.
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE? FUCK ALL YOU FUCKING FUCKS FOR EVEN GIVING THIS A SECOND THOUGHT. THIS SITE IS WHAT IT IS AND WE ARE GETTING MORE NEW MEMBERS BECAUSE OF IT. THE BANTER IS HALF OF THE FUN! SO FUCKING FUZZYNUTZ COMES ALONG AND GETS HIS FEELINGS HURT SO THE ENTIRE SITE IS CHANGED? FUCK THAT. HE CAN GO FUCK HIMSELF! THE PINK SIDE IS FOR STUPID FUCKS THAT CAN'T TAKE IT. IF SOMEONE WANTS A LITTLE INFO, ASK! IF YOU DON'T WANT SOMEONE TO TELL YOU TO FUCK OFF, THEN GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. IF YOU CAN'T TAKE CLINT TELLING YOU THAT YOU MISSPELL SPELLING, FUCK OFF! I CAN'T EVEN BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A THREAD! UPON ENTERING THIS SITE, EVERYONE IS WARNED THAT IT ISN'T CENSORED AND MAY BE OFFENSIVE TO SOME. WHAT MORE DO YOU NEED? OH SHIT! I'M OFFENDED! BIG FUCKING DEAL! IF YOUR FEELINGS GET HURT THAT EASILY, THEN THERE ARE OTHER SITES THAT MAY BE MORE APPROPRIATE!
THIS SITE IS WHAT IT IS BECAUSE WE CAN SAY ANYTHING THAT WE WANT! WE ARE HERE TO HELP IF NEEDED BUT EVERYONE KNOWS THAT THEY HAVE TO TAKE A FUCK OFF NOOB TO BE EXCEPTED.
Thank you all for listening to me and I appologized if I hurt anyones feelings today or ever!
Gods bless you all!
Pegsthinksyousholdallfuckoff!

For all you whining hermaphrodite fuckers who are still waiting for their testes to drop. WE DON'T NEED YOU. Hondashadow.net is more to your liking.
For Christ sake, I say what I want when I want. People ALWAYS know where they stand with me. They might not like what I have to say, but the vast majority appreciate the honesty. Is that a bad thing? I don't think so. Why should I walk around all the time trying to make people happy and not hurt their feelings and I'm all pissed? Am I suppose to live my life to make others happy?
Why is it that a group of people that are afraid to post in the first place are trying to change this site? One member said that he left because the site was too confrontational. Hey, know what asshole? We didn't seem to miss you. The site continued didn't it?
All you lurkers out there, if you are afraid of some ball breaking. Stop fucking lurking.

Most new riders stumble onto sites like this one, with expectations of sharing a great comman interest and with hopes of gaining a little knowledge, insight, from people who have more experience..Some people are brand new to the biking world and sometimes need to ask a few questions, however basic they seem to the veteran riders, these questions are asked earnestly..There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers,we are not born with this knowledge,we all got to start somewhere..when some people get a little too extreme and tell noobs to shove summit up there ass,or fuck off,you are alienating them from a wealth of knowledge and possibly discouraging them from posting because they dont want to feel stupid, hence the reason for the possible lurkers..
You tell noobs to use the search button before asking a question,,,,,,,,Is this because you guys, gals are incapable of covering the same topic twice,or are you just so full of SHIT that you cant remember what you said the first time, and thats why you say search it..This site for a lot of noobs is like tits on a nun USELESS because most of you cant remember what day of the fuckin week it is ....and the attention span of my dog....OH OH SQUIRREL!

Hmmm.....registered in Jan and a whole 49 posts. Perhaps you should see how many threads there are that cover the SAME FUCKING SUBJECT over and over again. Tell ya what Mr. Wizard. I'll point all the folks that don't want to do the research for themselves your way. See how old it gets for you.
I have no problem helping people. All I ask is that they try to help themselves first. There are several posts in the 750 area that the person was given every bit of info they needed and still didn't understand. Or didn't want to. There are others where we would ask for additional info to help. They come back with something totally irrelevant. What the fuck, are we suppose to do, go to their house and turn the wrenches for them? Some folks shouldn't be working on their bikes.
Also since almost 50% of your posts are in the word association area you really are a great contributor to your fellow riders and their technical needs.

Secondly, Clint, I spent quite a bit of my time in the word association thread as well (re: Bwaha) and had a blast. Surely I can't be judged because I have not contributed anything technical to my fellow shadowriders yet....I'm not a veteran rider like the vast majority of the members here, BUT, I'll get there and so in the MEANTIME, I will keep reading these posts and pick up things here and there. I didn't join this thing misrepresenting myself in any way by leading anyone to think I had anything other than my goodwill and good sense of humor to contribute. Someday that may change. Who the fuck knows?
So, I've posted my vote, can y'all guess wtf it was since I'm still bothering to post? Anyone still out there or do yas need a nice cup of shut the fuck up to keep up with the program?

That's not what I meant by it at all. I was making the point that he was criticizing others for not being more helpful in general, yet he hasn't contributed (technically) all that much. I could really care less how much a person brings to the site. If you don't know, you don't know. But don't criticize others that do try to help and bust a few balls in the process.
I don't intend to run people off. I ask to research a bit before asking something that has been covered before. If you still have questions, ask away. Then most people would be more than happy to help. Some folks actually find the answer they need by using the search button.

Hey, I was told to fuck off with my first post and I really couldn't give two shits either. If people can't take a fucking joke then why do they insist on sticking around to further subject themselves to something they find offensive? Who's the stupid one in THAT case???

Cheers, Clint. Thanks. So far, the only help I ever asked for anywhere was a site usage problem I was having (because of my computers restrictions), and the help I DID receive was from a moderator. The reply to my SOS came in less than five minutes, and the help was appreciated. Even tho some people here may seem a little rough around the edges, I assumed that I would still get help from the others should I really need it (like in a case of my problem NOT being mentioned in something I coulda searched). I've been toying with the idea of consolidating some of the threads to make things a little easier to "sift" through. But then I look at how much sifting needs to be done and my head starts to hurt. If I were to combine threads to make it easier. I think that would just make it harder to find that one nugget of information that an individual might be looking for. A lot of it has to do with some of the tech type threads going sooooo far off topic that it seems overwhelming to sort through all the crap in just one thread. I'm as guilty as anyone for that. Someone posts a question, they get an answer and then the thread morphs into something well off the original topic.

Also on the subject of helping folks out. I get quite a few PM's from people needing an answer to something and am ALWAYS willing to help as best I can. If I don't know the answer I will at least point them to someone who does.
Can you imagine, a noob seeing the bullshit I post, still PM's me for help. I actually don't mind that as much as the endless "How do I fix my........." posts.

Holy fuck, I take one weekend to go away and have to sit through 22 pages on a discussion about changing the very thing that made this forum what it is today. These newbies that come and go in a community because they can't stand the heat, wouldn't be around to support it in the future. Menace, I realize sometimes decissions have to be made in what seems to be the best interest of the site. One thing to consider, what is it that attracts people here. Is it because the site is warm and welcoming, fuck, put on the lace curtains on the main page, hand out coasters so we don't mark up the furniture while we drink our tea and by all means, napkins to ensure that we don't spill anything. You may want to change the color as well, it's too dark, we should brighten it up a bit, maybe some pastel colors. OR some of the queer eye for the straight eye biker site guys can come in here and do a makeover. It's a Damn biker forum. The internet is like a television, if you don't like what's on, change the channel, it's a click away...........oh, but then they'd have to be capable of using the search feature on the internet. Gee, wonder who taught them that, if they aren't capable of learning here.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all about helping people here when I can. I won't answer questions in discussions I have no knowledge about. But, I have done searches for the questions that they've asked and provided links to the answers that they said they couldn't find.
It amazes me how many of the people that complain about this site and the way they are treated open their first post with "I've been hanging out here for a quite a while, and tried the search button.....blah, blah, blah." Only to get roasted in a Fuck Off Newbie greeting, or get blasted about the search feature. Then the crying starts. WTF??? Thought you said you were a long time listener, first time poster??? Knowledge is worth a fortune, stupidity is priceless.
This is an online community. It exists the same way a city or town does. People populate it. Do all people get along? No, do you move into an area of town you don't like, or has a bad reputation? NO. So why the fuck do you come in here and try to change something that works for most of the people.
No offense to any newbies, some people coming onto forums don't know all of the features and maybe jump in too quick and get in over their heads. But you know, we all have to take criticism in life, and deal with it and move on. If you want a softer side of life, this may not be the site for you. But if you can take things with a grain of salt, and dish it out if you want, then this could become home for you.
Menace, I realize that you are putting this to a vote. I, for one, would be one of the first to leave the site if it changes to another 'Pink Side'. There are too many of those sites in existence already. Maybe it wouldn't matter to most, that's fine, but some of us have been here since the early days. The days before the crash of the original site. (BTW, where is Homero???). Do what you need to and the other people here will do what they need to do for themselves once a decission is made.
If you are looking for politically correct, this is probably not a site for you.........

Yeah, if they get all diluted with chit chat they won't be as funny.
And thanks for the comp. Lowering is next. I'm thinking 1.5 rear drop (either using the kit or just going with Progressive 11.5 inchers) and then swap to a 7* Billski tree to dop the front. That should also give a slightly longer look. Any suggestions in that arena would be appreciated. Once it's down, she also gets a Met 200 on the back to put a little meat on that butt!

Use the SEARCH feature there are plenty of lowering ideas.

Oh yea how was your weekend. Aren't you glad to be back:thumbsup: If every post was perfect, then what's the point. You need a few spelling and gramatical errors to keep things in check. Where is ColMaki anyway?
Weekend was awsome! Probably one of the best weekends of my life . Won't go into details as it may offend someone and Menace will be asked to change the rules so that stuff like that isn't posted on here. Because once you start with the censorship crap, there is no end to it. Because something will always offend someone.
BTW, if that's the only spelling mistake you got out of that post on the first read. I'm pretty damn proud!!

Thanks for the welcome back! I know, I never seem to get away for a weekend and then come back to this. I couldn't believe this thread. Although, in the idea of freedom of speach I guess it's got to be talked about so that everyone voices their opinions.
I see a 54 votes for a change, but only a few with enough balls to stand up for themselves and make sure their voices are heard. I may not agree with them, but hats off to them for at least being able to stand up and be counted.

I mentioned a few pages back that the folks with the dissenting view should voice their opinions openly. To sit back at your house and say to change a forum that so many people enjoy and then not come onto this thread to explain your opinion is not helping their cause.
I even said that I would delete any hostile threads directed at them. I just wanted some type of open conversation.

Are there Cliff Notes for this ?

i like it the way it is so don't mess with. if peoiple don't like it they can go someplace else. i am so sick and tired of people trying to change things because it might oiffend someone. welllll soooo what leave and leave us alone. if you don't like it go to the religiuous sites , i am sure they would love to have you join them. this is about bikes and people who build and live them.. now get over it and let us live our lives and go someplace else and live yours. one of my favorite quotes is "love the life you live and live the life you love." thanks HELL YEAH

I would agree that it needs to stay the way it is. Ever since this site was a twinkle in Rob's eye, it was founded on freedom of expression.
HOWEVER. I do think that some of us could lighten up & allow some of the noobs to get their feet wet at a slower pace. As I have seen, a lot of the Noobs are old salts in the biking world & may not be that savvy on PC etiquette & don't really know how to take some of the rhetoric. I think we should appear friendly (at first) & then lay into them once they catch on to the way things are. I think we have lost a lot of good guys & potential good information from this.
Just my 2 cents....

Would also agree to an extent with BrotherBaker that the "initiation" could be lightened up just a bit. It has been pretty harsh lately.
There is a warning on the front page that this site is not censored, no one under 21...yada, yada, yada. Maybe make it a little more visible?

That should work. Nobody likes to feel threatened or made to feel like they are less of a person from some Internet bully. I had thousands of posts prior to the site crashing, but don't really find much wisdom in here lately, so don't have many posts these days. I joined to gain & give information & meet some cool peeps with like minds, not make enemies & piss people off. I'd guarantee if I met any of you in person, I'd be the nicest guy you ever met, so it will not be different on here. It sucks that people only want to ask me questions in a PM, rather than a public post due to fear of public ridicule.
In fact, I'm sure I'll get some smart-ass comments for my views. It's all good, cause I'm still hard enough to tell you all to fuck off.....

No, you have to help newbies to some extent...this format is foreign to some folks (although it's becoming more common) and can be hard for a new person to find their way around.
Maybe you ask them to use the fucking search button, pretty please with sugar on top?

All In know is that I'm getting a little irritated because I'm the bad guy for asking people to try to help themselves first. I mean c'mon, how many times can you answer the same question before you get totally frustrated by the whole thing.
I can't remember the last time I fucked off someone new. It kinda lost it's thrill for me a while back. I'm sure that there have been one or two in the past month or two, but I don't lye in wait for them like the old days.

I don't even mind the 'fuck off' initiation. I hate that we had to steal that idea from TSW, but besides that, it's all good.
My thing is, when I first started visiting TSW, there was a select group of members that had a 'click'. Anyone new was considered a threat & every thread became a personal conversation between the original members & the new guys never really felt like they fit it. I just thought we could be a little different here, that's all.
Either way, I still visit everyday regardless. No one (certainly not me) is pointing the finger at any one individual. I am just calling it like I see it.

I have to agree with you there. The thread hijacking has gotten a bit out of control. I'm just as guilty of it as others. We really need to try to cut that down a bit. I've seen single conversations covering a multitude of threads.

BB, it is hard to get along with some people. I tend to make either great friends or great enemys in real life. That is just me. I love to help when I can. I also started a thread along time ago about not using the "fuck off noob". I felt that we as a board could come up with a better and forum specific greeting that did not use TSW's welcome line. I was wrong. I don't tend to fuck off noobs anymore.

Clicks are by far worse than anything else discussed in this forum. It is the one thing that can destroy an organization faster than anything else.
I would also use a little caution about thread hijacking. Restricting this on the technical forums is good, but it is not good for the General Topic Forum. Thread hijacking is nothing more than a normal conversation migrating. Think about it. How many conversations (in your everday life) do you have where you only stick to the original subject matter. I would guess few if any. It is a normal behavior pattern.
The F off N. thing is one I have used in the past, but in general try to avoid. Maybe a note, for newbies before they can log on explaining how "things work", would be helpful. And a little common sense on our part wouldn't hurt either.
